LONDON (Alliance News) - Three former employees of GlaxoSmithKline PLC's China operations are seeking compensation for illegal dismissal and reimbursement of unpaid expenses, Reuters reported Wednesday citing a lawyer representing the ex-employees.
The ex-employees are seeking two months pay for each year of their employment from Glaxo for dismissing them for expenses that were not compliant with company rules, the report said.
They are also seeking reimbursement for unpaid expenses that they said were part of the bribe money they paid to doctors and hospital staff with approval from their managers.
Glaxo has been weathering an investigation from Chinese authorities of allegations of bribery, amid claims that executives had been involved in payments of up to USD500 million to doctors and hospital executives over the past six years.
The case of the three ex-employees will be heard by a labour dispute arbitration committee in Shanghai's Huangpu District on Thursday, Reuters said.
A spokesperson for Glaxo could not immediately be reached for comment on the Reuters report.
Shares in GlaxoSmithKline closed down 0.1% at 1,541.47 pence Wednesday, having traded higher most of the day, touching an intraday high of 1,559.00p.
