The FTSE Small Caps index gains 0.3 percent, lagging blue-chip FTSE 100index, up 1.1 percent, and the mid caps, which finish 1.9percent higher.
Shares in Beacon Hill Resource jump up by 44.5 percent after thecompany - which handles production projects related to the steel industry -signs a deal to provide rolling stock on a railway line in Mozambique.
"Beacon Hill may have an opportunity to benefit from the country's desire todemonstrate it is open for business," writes Canaccord Genuity in a researchnote, keeping a "buy" rating on the stock.
However, New World Oil & Gas slumps by 40.6 percent after thecompany says it has had to abandon the Blue Creek well in Belize.
"Whilst the data points to the migration of considerable quantities of oilthrough this area, the trap remains the key outstanding element required forsuccess at Blue Creek," Seymour Pierce analyst Sam Wahab writes in a note.
Elsewhere, a bleak earnings outlook hits Elektron Technology, whichslumps 14.5 percent after stating that its sales in December and January were"particularly disappointing".
