Dignity PLC - Birmingham-based funeral provider - Responds to Phoenix UK Fund Ltd's April 12 statement, calling it "deeply irresponsible" in discussing possible strategies and publishing unverified valuations for the crematoria division. Says the board is already assessing ideas in the letter and is well-advanced in making a full strategy plan, including distributing the crematoria business to shareholders. Calls for shareholders to reject Phoenix's resolutions at annual general meeting on April 23.
Phoenix UK Fund said the crematoria business woud be worth over GBP1 billion if it was listed separately. Called for other Dignity shareholders to vote in favour of its resolutions, which include replacing Executive Chair Clive Whiley with Phoenix partner Gary Channon.
