Beowulf Submits Paper To Swedish Lawmakers As It Eyes Kallak Permit

Mon, 11th Nov 2019 12:39

(Alliance News) - Nordic-focused exploration firm Beowulf Mining PLC on Monday said it submitted a statement to the government of Sweden as it looks to secure a concession at its Kallak North iron ore project in Lapland.

Beowulf said that risk impact assessments found that mining at Kallak would not threaten existing reindeer herding communities near the asset.

The mine is located in a region of land resided by the indigenous Sami people, who have previously resisted further operations at Kallak.

The company said: "Furthermore, the statement highlights the similarities between Kallak and available case law, which support the approval of the concession.

"For these reasons, the statement concludes that Beowulf should be awarded the exploitation concession for Kallak."

Beowulf also noted that being awarded a permit would boost the local economy, creating jobs and generating tax revenue.

Chief Executive Kurt Budge said: "I note that, the Froberg & Lundholm AB and Mannheimer Swartling AB law firms have found no new facts pertaining to the application for an Exploitation Concession. The case was made in the company's final detailed submission to Government in February 2018 and over the last six-and-a-half years."

Beowulf has been embroiled in a lengthy dispute over the permit at the northern Sweden mine. In 2013, the company reported that virulent protests hampered a drill programme at Kallak, damaging rigs and other equipment.

Shares in Beowulf were untraded in London on Monday afternoon, last quoted at 6.14 pence each.
