A perfectly reasonable approach. I tend not to sell, but simply buy the ex-d drop to increase my holding and compound the dividend income.

While some may want a higher dividend, money spent on dividends is not money reinvested into the company. I own the rangebound Legal & General and every time they pay one of their (high) dividends, the share price drops by more than the dividend on the ex-div. date so I sell before then anyway.

Some make much of the fact that DGE has increased its dividend annually for the past 37 years. But I'm not convinced that is a such a remarkable feat when you start from a pathetically small base and the size of the increase is easily countered by a small uplift in share price. Neither am I convinced that concentrating almost exclusively on premium brands during hard times is a wonderful strategy, especially when (at least IMHO) acceptable cheaper alternatives available. The SP has been falling steadily for the past 12 months, so I will want to see a sustained recovery above 30 before I'll be tempted back in. Good luck all.

Every time I’m tempted to take a position here, I’m reminded of the woeful yield and how I can get more from a savings account (or a better yielding blue chip). Share buybacks are better than nothing, but a >5% dividend ought to be the priority for most Footsie companies these days.

After warning you before results this would be a drag on growth potential in short term.

We’re nearly 100p lower since January.

With economy supposedly being in a better state, god only knows (8300pts), I think this will be a dog for sometime…

Maybe September we might see an constant uptick above 3000p

As for buybacks they’re a waste of time for investors, it’s just a smoke screen, what investors want to see us debt levels reduced at these high interest rate environments we live in, and maybe a small uptick in dividend.
