Compass Group posted another robust set of FY numbers continuing on its rock solid upward trajectory. Revenue was up 10.6% to $42.2b, which fuelled underlying operating profit growth of $2,998m and an underlying operating margin of 7.1% (+30bps year on year), with good progress in all regions. Dialled into the half hour post results presentation. I said before they have to keep running to justify their high rating----well they have done. The increase in turnover is across all activities and its not just inflation there is 2% volume growth in there. Business retention rate is at 96%+ which Dominic regarded as highly satisfactory. Their cost inflation (particularly food) is coming down, with no squeeze on margins which they think they can get back to previous levels. They also see good new business opportunities. The larger disposals (Brazil) and acquisitions (Germany) have been completed and they hinted at further smaller bolt-ons ($200m). They have raised guidance for the current year with operating profit growth to be above 15% . The buy-back programme has further to go and Next year we can expect mid to high teens growth. I could 'hear' the analysts adjusting their forecast up. No wonder the shares leapt again after the call !
