The tool is intentionally designed to train surgeons in low- and middle-income countries, home to nine out of ten people with vision loss due to the difficulty of accessing eye care.
Published April 5, 2024
BOSTON, MA – April 5, 2024 – Orbis International and FundamentalVR today launched a new immersive virtual reality (VR) training solution intentionally designed for use in low- and middle-income countries, at the American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery (ASCRS) Annual Meeting. The tool is built to support students and residents learning to perform surgery to treat cataracts – the world’s leading cause of blindness, despite being treatable with a short operation – ultimately growing the number of skilled care providers and improving outcomes for patients. The tool’s affordability, portability and scalability, combined with its targeted functionality, make it a key advancement in ophthalmic surgical education globally and will accelerate Orbis’s efforts to build strong and sustainable eye care systems around the world.
Orbis, a global nonprofit, teamed up with FundamentalVR, a technology company dedicated to developing VR surgical training solutions, to create this unique tool. It integrates VR, haptic feedback, cloud assessment data, and off-the-shelf hardware to create a solution for cataract surgical training in resource-limited settings. Immersive VR simulation integrated with haptics provides a highly realistic experience for eye-care professionals, who are able to practice each step repeatedly to cement their understanding of both basic and difficult techniques.
“We saw a real need that we could meet. Most existing simulation training tools are expensive, not easily transportable or sourced, and/or train doctors on a surgical method usually only practiced in high-resource areas. Thanks to our partnership with FundamentalVR, we were able to bring a new VR solution to life that makes cataract surgical training accessible no matter where you live.”
Dr. Hunter Cherwek, Orbis Vice President of Clinical Services and Technologies
The training tool enables independent learning through automated performance monitoring and feedback, a particular benefit to medical professionals without access to robust ophthalmic training opportunities. Residents can hone their skills in a realistic simulation, practicing first in a safe environment before entering the operating room, which is proven to yield better surgical outcomes. Users of the platform can supplement their learning with Cybersight, Orbis’s telemedicine and e-learning platform.
“Our partnership with Orbis International not only underscores our commitment to advancing the field of ophthalmology but also highlights the immense potential of VR in creating safer, more effective learning environments for healthcare professionals. Our goal is to elevate patient outcomes and redefine the standard of surgical proficiency on a global scale, advancing the qu

Book Price end of 2022 was £24.86m. Current MCAP £11.27m. So I know investments worth has dropped since then but I think Book price is still above MCAP...?
Apologies, 6.4p...
It was 6.9p end of 2022....
No but the SP is still well below NAV? Anyone have end of 2023 NAV figure?
Looks like it is moving this afternoon anyone know why?
Looking to break and hold 2.9p, to close the gap-down on 23rd Jan this year.

Wyld Networks' sensor to satellite technology enters the Brazilian market for pollination monitoring through an agreement with GeoApis
Wyld Networks, together with Brazil-based GeoApis, has entered into an agreement to monitor bee colonies using Wyld's low-orbit satellite connection. Wyld Connect will support GeoApis to increase yields and improve sustainability for beekeepers, crop producers and growers to increase agricultural productivity.
Brazil is the third-largest agricultural producer and exporter in the world (Schneider et al., 2021), with about 60% of crops relying on pollinators in some way (Giannini et al., 2015).
In Brazil, the large agricultural areas and lack of rural coverage make it extremely difficult to monitor the health of pollinator populations.
Based in Brazil's Agtech Valley ecosystem in Piracicaba/SP, GeoApis works with over 300 beekeepers and over 4,000 bee colonies.
Specializing in reducing and preventing bee mortality, GeoApis focuses on the relationship between colony management and the use of pesticides and other agricultural ingredients. They protect bees and biodiversity by offering continuous eco-friendly solutions and projects to agricultural companies, agricultural producers and companies interested in sustainability.
With a coverage of over 500,000 hectares, GeoApis monitors more than 1 billion bees with customers in the sugar cane industry Wyld is meeting the challenges of connecting the Internet of Things in Brazil's agricultural sector via low-orbit satellites," said Alastair Williamson, CEO of Wyld Networks. "We are excited to partner with GeoApis on crucial projects that will have a significant impact on pollination and sustainability."

To go and it’s back to where it was 3 years ago… well done MGMT doing a sterling job.
FundamentalVR CEO and Co-Founder Richard Vincent sat down with John Koetsier at Forbes, speaking on how surgeons are using Apple Vision Pro to improve training efficiency by decreasing skills acquisition time 40% to 100%.
Apple Vision Pro has allowed surgeons to upskill to a level where they can achieve “pre-human competence” all before stepping foot in an OR.
“Our vision is all about getting to something we call pre-human competence, which is don’t practice on me, practice on a simulated version of me and then come into the OR and perform on me.”

Wyld Networks in conjunction with Queensland based PLF Australia have begun monitoring soil moisture utilising Low Earth Orbiting satellite connectivity.
Satellite IoT in Australia utilising low power connectivity is essential for optimising land management. This process plays a crucial role in optimising irrigation, maximising yields and improving biodiversity.
Wyld have installed Wyld Connect AT430 terminals and AT302 modems with soil moisture sensors from DFM Technologies in Australia to monitor soil moisture and are now collecting data.
Vast areas of agricultural land in Australia are remotely located and have no available networks to connect IoT sensors and devices. There is an immense demand for IoT connectivity from farmers and agronomists and PLF Australia are deploying Wyld’s solutions to deliver this accurate operational information to their customers to enable improved data-driven decision making.
Adopting IoT technology will help primary producers increase yields and reduce costs, which in turn will lift profitability and improve the competitiveness of Australian produce in international markets.
“Satellite IoT technology is now crucial to Australian agriculture, as the sector continues to grow quality produce for global markets,” said Alastair Williamson, CEO Wyld Networks. “We are delighted to have started initial deployments with one of Australia’s leading agricultural IoT companies.

Not really inline with making a profit.
The more I look into Wyld the more promising it gets. Huge number of units now being shifted, it was inline to start making profit even before the 3 latest large contracts, still waiting for an announcement regarding the join up with SpaceX, subscription model driving recurring revenue. Should grow revenue exponentially.
So much potential to expend geographically, using the platform and exploring higher data frequencies.
Very happy to hear Meta promoting Fundamental VR on Classic FM today. I guess 30 second ad extolling the contribution Fundamental VR are making in the field of cataract surgery. Clearly Meta think a lot about this company.
G.Rees to compare how airtag works with wyld network is like comparing a car to a speedboat sure both have steering wheels and take you places but the method is completely different. Airtags don't work in areas where there are no iPhones as they use the iPhone to report location. iPhones are not a common thing in the rainforest or a herd of cattle, even if they were the iPhone battery would be dead in 24hrs and I can't see cows stopping to recharge it, the modules that wyld sale last up two years without charging & work in remote locations making them ideal for long term data collection. Have a good Easter everyone.
