This is something I will continue to add when I can
Yet another interesting and broad ranging interview where Merck hits back at a lot of the recent criticism https://www.musicbusinessworldwide.com/merck-mercuriadis-faces-the-future-and-stares-down-his-critics/?curator=MusicREDEF
Tomorrow will be interesting. Lots of buying today but wo would take the subscription offer tomorrow if it is higher than the share price? https://www.thetimes.co.uk/article/city-critics-wont-dance-as-music-royalty-fund-hipgnosis-calls-the-tune-t3tmvwt3b
Have just been plesantly surprised by the fact that Hipgnosis have made a submission to the DCMS inquiry. Def feels like they are on the side of the artists in general, though it does align with their investment goals as well. You can read it here https://committees.parliament.uk/writtenevidence/16721/html/
An interesting intervew on CNBC last week https://www.cnbc.com/video/2021/01/22/why-this-music-royalty-fund-is-betting-big-on-streaming.html
Re why to buy in the placing rather than in the market. You don't pay dealing costs or stamp duty if in the placing so I guess it depends on how many you're thinking of buying as to whether it makes much difference.
HL informed me about the offer this afternoon.
Re buying via Primary Bid into an ISA. Maybe the problem is that if your ISA is already fully funded for this year then transferring in shares via PB would take you over your limit. Also, broker would have to know that the money used to buy the shares was your money and maybe they just can't be bothered taking the risk that it isn't. Must admit I've never tried adding shares obtained via PB to an ISA.
No that's a stupid thing for me to say...not thinking straight.
Worth waiting to buy, if they are going ex divi, as shares normally take a dive then
HL said in their offer letter you could buy the shares in any of your accounts even if you don't hold the shares in that account
Good point as you could buy the old shares 121.5 that go x div in 2 days time
Tell me why I should take up the offer of new shares at 121p when I can trade normally at this same price. Am I missing something here. I am not experienced in shares.. also what is Primary bid which has been mentioned in some recent posts..
Thank you for any helpful replies
Really? I've used primary bid a lot this year and the biggest problem is you can't buy from them in an isa, my isa has been offered the SONG placement but that is not through Primary Bid.
Be interested to hear how you have done that.
Pander I have SONG shares in HL ISA and can purchase primary bid no problem
Got a message from mine (Eqi) on Friday offering them as well
Received mine through from Charles Stanley direct this afternoon
Hmmm - which broker is that with?
Nothing from any of mine.
Just had this offered through my isa which is handy, primary bid offers can't be put in an isa.
121p 1.2% discount on close open u til 4th feb
Came here to post exactly this article after it was linked to from here https://www.synchtank.com/blog/six-takeaways-for-music-publishers-from-the-dcms-inquiry-into-the-economics-of-music-streaming/
Hopefully the end result from the DCMS will ultimatly be an increase in royalties coming to the composer/songwriter which will benifit us as Hipgnosis.
anyone heard of one media plc?
"They're called managers, lawyers and accountants. Also probably a case of " a bird in the hand is worth....."
According to Massarsky, they're getting it wrong and undervaluing every time.
It's the usual thing when anyone is asked the value of something. The first question should be are they buying or selling?
"Ultra Acquisition" for sure. The growth and success only comes from income and the paying down of the debt. I hold and hope. :-)
The rate of acquisitions = "ultra growth " i was referring too. Having such a substantial collection of catalogues and many more to follow plus having someone like Merck Mercuriadis at the helm who clearly has a relationship with all the artists he is signing plus the insider industry experience leads me to believe there is more than meets the eye with this one. So More than an income play for me. I can see the situation where Hipgnosis will use its power moving forward to negotiate all sorts of rights in the future...Remember it was mentioned he was looking to create his version of the screen writers guild. Throwing something far out there maybe Hipgnosis own version of Spotify or Roxi who knows... IMHO
