I saw a program showing the mini been made, I think there was over a thousand variables to different extras, colours, trim, colour of mirrors so you must have a choice between a DMS that is top of the range and one that’s know if your just holding the steering wheel.
A car is no longer a ready made item. I got sent a Merc email. What paint colour, trim, safety, wheels, trims etc.
Then do you want the Executive Package, Grand edition, Winter package, Exclusive Package.
So OEMs will have different models and basic to Superduper DMS & infotainment packages with different suppliers iam sure.
As long as we get a decent slice of the pie we should be laughing or smiling or both :)
Beef, no I don't believe they do, they are "partnering to deliver" they don't have an auto grade chip atm, lets not forget we announced our chip back in Sept 16 and we have the first vehicle with our Chip on the road in 3 weeks time. Perhaps they auto industry don't want a monopoly but if they want a chip then they only have SM, lucky for them its the best, cheapest and smallest solution.
Smarteye announcement last year
"Ambarella, Inc. (NASDAQ: AMBA), a leading developer of high-resolution video processing and computer vision semiconductors, and Smart Eye, a world leader in developing Artificial Intelligence (AI) powered eye, mouth, and head tracking technology, today announced they are partnering to deliver a Driver Monitoring System (DMS) platform that tracks driver actions and intentions."
Not yet and AMBARELLA'S auto chip is ASIL B
Smarteye has a chip solution as well don't they?
agreed, but it isnt as black and white as that.
Robbie,
Yes like Renault - Nissan?
Smart Eye can have them.
Remember what SEE said in the presentation, some OEMS will only consider certain Tier 1 partners for their own business / political reasons.
I would read this slowly, unless you buy the monopoly argument I don't see how we lose out in the mass market, need it quickly situation
"The newest variant of the FOVIO Chip solution, optimized for basic Euro NCAP systems with the flexibility to support the most advanced DMS requirements, now represents the highest performing, smallest and lowest cost, driver monitoring solution on the market. "
It's somewhat confused by a number of reasons -
- SEE has an auto grade chip, so if you want it on a chip, there's no choice (also as Beef said, it's the cheapest solution available) and it's quicker to market
- and yet again, if you want something along the lines of what SEE does, along the lines of functionality, again there is only one choice
- if all products were the same, the cheapest would win almost always. Obviously that's not happening which points to the fact the products are not the same and the cheapest software has issues, still
Beef, what about if the Japanese OEM wants a Chip solution as they don't have in-house HF expertise ?
That is my worry for OEM’s Like VW, Toyota and the Japanese OEM’s.
Low cost + mass production = SEYE
Higher cost + lower production = SEE
The above statement does have contradictions and that I am aware of! SEE has a lower cost variant of DMS to compete with SEYE and other inferior DMS providers. However, as we know the OEM’s cannot afford another monopoly like Mobileye managed.
Saying all that we are going to be in the F150…
We have been told that some OEMs are dual sourcing and probably for different models/price/function.
I expect VAG may be a good example.
Do you think he has insider knowledge or is it just classic pie in the sky from Viktor?
The question is why VW would choose SEYE over SEE?
SEE has won BMW & Mercedes in Europe.
SEYE had the well published issues around the limitations of there DMS with Audi and finally, we are the golden egg for EuroNCAP……..
