The most probable route for expansion would be storage duration currently a 2hour cycle ie the batteries can provide 2 hours of supply before needing to recharge.
However 3 hour storage batteries are now available so 120mw/240mw would then become 120mw/360mw hope that makes sense .
I'm unsure as to the complexity of upgrading to a 2GW BESS project nearing the time we meet our limit other than planning consent of course. Would this be at all feasible with site conditions, space etc do people here know what possibilities are?
Morning chaps good to get an RNS although more details on the contract with ENSO would have been appreciated.
Regarding the capacity of BESS at Uskmouth I agree with Stangys calculation it is also possible that similar to the 1st BESS project the 2nd one could be expanded to make up to the 1GW ?
Thanks for the reply Strangy. I’d vote to add you to the comms team any day. 🫡
If SAE read this blog. A update with a table of BESS projects / MW / developers / sites / dates / total capacity would be most helpful.
Regards,
GUNE
Excellent news
RNS as per what was expected.
Next RNS should be the turbine or MEYGEN financing.
The latter being ultra pivotal.
I assumed it was 349 (230+119) Bess 1
120 for 2nd Bess.
349 for next Bess.
So I have it at 818?
There is some confusion somewhere either in the maths or the way it was explained on 5th December RNS.
Like you, not straightforward to understand.
Re-reading the business update from December 5th - it mentions a total capacity of 1 GW of BESS Projects at Usk.
Can anyone check my RNS analysis + maths here?
1. First BESS Project = 230 MW + todays 120 MW expansion = 350 MW
2. Second BESS Project = talks underway with a developer … 249 MW .. more info from SAE on this would be good.
3. Third BESS Project = Grid Capacity of 349 MW has been secured. No mention of developer yet. Again I’ll be keeping an eye out for future updates from SAE on progress.
So Total at Usk = 350 MW + 249 MW + 349 MW = 958 MW
I’m at little confused by this excerpt -
“ Furthermore, the first BESS project has rights under agreements with SAE to expand from 230MW to 349MW. This brings the total potential capacity at USEP for BESS projects to over 1GW.”
My first thought is that the mentioned expansion of first BESS from 230 - 349 MW - is referencing the extension that just got planning permission today - as opposed to an additional 129 MW. OT, Strangy & MT would be keen to check if that’s your understanding.
Also I'm keen to hear an update on the 200 MW BESS at meygen.
That’s potentially 3 further BESS projects that are in the works on top of the progress made today regarding the 1. BESS 230 + 120 extension.
Which reads as 1.2 GW of BESS. That would be a fine day if all are concurrently operational and monetising energy transfer to the grid.
Thank you Strangy 😊
"If no RNS by the end of the week".
FFS this company is a fkn joke when it comes to comms. Why the fk would this not be released immediately via RNS?
NEVER let it be said that this company does not like to blow its own trumpet. It loves to fly under the radar for sure. All at the expense of the PI of course. This
BOD needs to take a long hard look at itself perhaps when it comes to Comms at the least.
Enso rep was there and clarified what they were going to do with regards to the conditions in the planning.
I would definitely expect and want an RNS given planning permission has been granted for something that the communicated in a recent RNS and the fact that they are all now richer given the shares they have allocated themselves.
If no RNS by the end of the week then I will be writing to them.
The fact that another hurdle has gone must be communicated simple as that.
Do you think there will be an RNS about this?
Thank you Strangy!
Thanks Strangy much appreciated be good to hear from the company now with details on the deal with Enso 🤞
Dust for Info the application passed very easily so planning permission on place and construction work will commence that will take approx 12 months to complete.
I will let you know how it goes if I get to watch it?
Interesting but vague. I suppose the only way to understand the presentation would be to attend.

Yes it's still running. But your other questions need to be answered by SAE.
GOOD LUCK.
Yes. I understand that but is what they set up still running? Did they remove the turbine? Did they just sign it over to Proteus? Were trials successful? Did it or is it achieving revenue? Let's not forget we still retain a 21% stake in Proteus and it's concerns are still our concerns. I'm assuming of course that the turbine and array was part of the sale.
Yes I know.
I am fully aware of that but the landscape has changed lots since.
The company now does not build turbines?
They imo are a facilitator and link for tidal arrays and imo have their hands full just with MEYGEN.
They already entered sometime in 2018. They put installed a turbine for testing. The details were vague to me but I know for sure SAE were on with it.
Yes but the only plus will be Proteus shares. I cannot see SAE entering anything there as Meygen will be too cash centric...

Evening Mr T all the conditions are in the Agenda reports pack
https://democracy.newport.gov.uk/ieListDocuments.aspx?CId=132&MId=8421&Ver=4&LLL=0
Look very similar to the 1st BESS application that was granted.
"Members have been recommended to grant planning permission with conditions."
What conditions? 🤔
