Am I the guilty one FKI ?
I took my own advice still this month and bought more on 19 March when the price crashed. Still hold shares from late 2016 when bought at 2.19 and bought more March 2018. This was easily my best performing share in this current rout. In fact it still is ....which shows how badly the rest are doing.
Rgds to all still holding. This will recover considerably still today
FallingKnife , I feel we must be invested in several of the same companies - tempted to follow your investments for the enjoyment of reading your posts.... They always make me smile.
I took the opening fall as an opportunity to top up - mid- term pest control will still be needed.
short term -'We are training our staff to help support this increased demand and by the end of March we expect to have at least an additional 2,500 technicians trained around the world to undertake disinfection services. ' will help the cash flow
advised me to invest in these and it seems like I fell into a trap as I am losing money. I can't feeling my trusted friend is a rat for costing me money.
I have been wondering what the impact of lock downs, building closures etc will have. Most other places are not as extreme as in China in the rigidity of the lockdowns. We are coming to the warmer period in many of the territories they operate in which is when pest problems increase. Anecdotally, the building where I used to work, which is being closed , issued a warning about leaving food because of vermin. I cannot see that there will be much of a reduction in the need for vermin control whatever happens.
Hi,
Not a holder here but like the look of it so now on my watch list. I agree with all the potential positives due to Corona but also conscious of the negative impacts if it continues to spread for a few more months, as per their year end results statement it will hit them and eradicate any associated tailwinds (that’s my interpretation anyway), so happy to wait until their Q1 update 16th April.
“To date, the main impact of the virus has been on our operations in China. In other parts of the Group customer enquiries for hand-washing and hand-sanitising services are strong. At this point in time we would expect only a small net impact on the business in Q1.
We are monitoring the situation very closely, looking to mitigate the risk of the impact that the virus may have on our colleagues, customers and supply chain. The majority of products sourced from suppliers in China are covered by existing stocks for the next few months.
Should the situation continue for an extended period or become materially worse, this could obviously have a more negative impact during the rest of the year.”
How time flies!. I remember buyingRto for 39 p after the financial crash 2007 ish!
I had not realised until now that rats may be implicated as vectors of Covid-19 , so RTO pest control will be busy as well.
I assume that the exceptionally warm winter will have lead to increases in the rodent population through much of the Northern Hemisphere.
As some have said below this has been a great share to hold. It is almost never mentioned on BB's and rarely gets a mention in the share blogs and mags however they keep growing and delivering profits.
RTO tends to always be thought of as pest control but it is much more than this; It will be interesting to see how much the 'Initial ' side of the busines contributes, with Covid -19 spreading there will be an increase in demand for its specialist disinfecting service as well as the more routine hand wash/cleaning services.
We have been sheholders in Rentokil since before the days of the BET takeover. When they were a steady share around £1.60 for years. In the crash of 08 they went down to 35p like all other such companies. That they have recovered to £4.50 shows that they have magnificent managers who are dead set on growing the company in rat catching and allied areas. The dividend is very small but we much prefer such great growth in place of a few extra pennies on the dividend. If we want income to balance our portfolio we invest in BP which goes up and down like a yo-yo but which provides income well in excess of inflation.
On of my most successful too, steady upward trend over many years. The dividend yield is a bit feeble but I believe this is because a) we keep revenue to make acquisitions and b) despite increases in the dividend even bigger increases in the share price serve to dampen the yield. Frankly I am happy the way things are. No foreworks just nice n steady
This has been one of my most succesfull share holdings in terms of growth and value.
It is a company whose products will always be in demand.
Why o why is the divi so poor?
Can Rentokil Initial exterminate any sellers with Thursday’s Q1 trading update?
A heat-wave led rise in rats, wasps and flies gave the firm’s full year figures a boost in February, with organic revenue growth at its Pest Control division up 4.8%, ahead of the group’s 3.7% increase. Total revenue, meanwhile, rose 4.1% at constant exchange rates to £2.47 billion, with adjusted pre-tax profit climbing 8.8% to £308 million.
The company ended February’s report by stating that following a ‘good start to the year’ it anticipates ‘a slight increase in market expectations for 2019’, something investors will want further word on in Thursday’s first quarter statement.

Market rerating going on free trade optimism . No deal Brexit will be great ! The market says so .
IMHO this is a buy and hold for the long term . There will always be vermin . International earning give it a buffer against Brexit impact.
oh well quiet board ...im off then
"the bank also noted that if Rentokill was capable of maintaining its present rate of growth , aided by acquisitions, it saw a 35% potential upside to the firm by 2019, leading it to up its target price from 290p to 440p."
Nice SP recovery I’m glad I topped up when the sale was on . As they say quality will out.
I’m sure we’ll all agree the sp has been disappointing over the last year but from what I can see this is a well run company which is growing strongly in the US and Asia and as reported below growing its top and bottom line . As profits rise the sp is sure to follow .. good times ahead .
Wholly agree. Revenue up 11pct and profits up 23pct to just under 300 m. The negative impact of v E maybe just 10m so relatively insignificant. Logic says this fall unwarranted and price set to rise.
Should be a good safe bet at this level in a generally volatile market but I think it could drift a bit lower yet. I held this stock for over 10 years from 170p down to 35p and all the way back up again. Out currently though.
the 10pct fall early today ? Results looked pretty good to me so have bought back in as a recovery play.
I’m availing of the opportunity to add at a discount.
Good luck Greek in whatever you do - had a blast!
