25/08/2011 OMG (OMG) shares declined 0.125p to 20.375p on news that 2d3, the group's defence and aerial business, had signed a 396,000 dollar (242,000 pound) contract with the US Army Geospatial Centre. The technology group will performed applied research work focused on the generation of 3D information from 2D imagery resources in urban environments. Nick Bolton, chief executive commented "our research will help the army make more informed decisions by helping them to better understand their operational environment".
Discussing the new technologies Nick Bolton, OMG plc Chief Executive said: "Mobile mocap represents a huge development leap for OMG and for the industry as a whole, enabling our customers to find new ways of unobtrusively capturing highly accurate performance and movement data that can make a huge difference to their products. I am delighted that the Vicon team within OMG continues to put us at the forefront of developments in this arena, setting the standards that others must follow."
Vicon showcases 'Mobile Mocap' technology - OMG's Vicon unit demonstrates new mobile motion capture technology at leading trade show - - Portable applications open up a new wave of opportunity for motion capture outside of the traditional laboratory environment - OMG plc, (LSE: OMG) ("OMG" or the "Group"), the technology group providing image understanding products for the entertainment, defence, life science and engineering industries will this week showcase a range of mobile motion capture technologies ("mobile mocap") at the 38th annual SIGGRAPH conference in Vancouver, Canada. The technologies represent many years of development effort and offer new and exciting ways to make motion capture a possibility in real-world situations, not just in a studio environment. The technologies on display include both new and recently deployed solutions, and have a broad range of potential end-market applications. The centrepiece of the mobile motion capture technologies is a small, lipstick sized camera capable of capturing 720p (1280x720) footage at 60 frames per second. This camera not only has potential application in the medical industry and military surveillance but also in the entertainment sector for less obtrusive, more accurate facial animation data. In stand-alone format, this small camera could be embedded into a car to move ergonomics testing out of a test lab and onto a real road environment, to help more accurately capture authentic data around how a driver interacts with a car in real world conditions. Up to twelve cameras could be synchronized together to simultaneously deliver data that could also be combined with external metadata such as GPS, miles per hour and traffic patterns. By combining the camera with a head-mounted device, the technology could also reliably capture both the nuances and contours of facial activity for the design of digital characters in games, films and on television. Prototypes of the technology have already been used in such a way, helping to provide the facial capture for Jim Carrey in Disney's "A Christmas Story" and for Jeff Bridges' performance in the movie "Tron Legacy." The SIGGRAPH conference where these technologies can be seen takes place between 9 and 11 August.

Commenting on the launch of Horizons, Nick Bolton, OMG Chief Executive Officer said: "We are delighted to launch this new offering. We believe it provides a new, improved way for Local Authorities to manage their roads at a time when cost-efficiency is a major concern, but road repairs and reviews still need to take place. Potholes and road quality in general are 'hot' news topics right now and Horizons will help councils to plan maintenance schemes that can fix these issues faster, more effectively and in those areas where action needs to be taken first."
Yotta DCL Releases Horizons - New SaaS Software Offering SaaS web-based tool enables informed, simpler decision-making for highways clients OMG plc, (LSE: OMG) ("OMG" or the "Group"), the technology group providing image understanding products for the entertainment, defence, life science and engineering industries, is pleased to announce that its Yotta division, the leading highways surveyor, has today unveiled the launch of its new SaaS product platform: Horizons. This new platform will enable a Local Authority to visualise, manage and optimise the highway survey data it collects and subsequently check on the status of every road under its management through one interface. Yotta's services enable Local Authorities to be more cost effective in their long term highway maintenance plans, thereby reducing the authority's overall operational costs whilst at the same time enhancing the quality, speed and accuracy with which repairs can be executed. The new Horizons platform will now allow those users to manage multiple sets of data, make cost predictions, plan and model various road maintenance scenarios, build schemes and ultimately make better, more informed decisions. Utilising Google Maps for its user interface, Horizons offers users an immediately familiar and simple to use functionality. It enables easy navigation and pulls data and reports together quickly and easily. Currently, network data might be held in many disparate locations and forms but, when using Horizons, data can be imported from any source so that decisions based upon all relevant and available information can be made.

(Adds executive comment and detail.) By Jason Douglas Of DOW JONES NEWSWIRES LONDON (Dow Jones)--Motion capture technology company OMG PLC (OMG.LN) Wednesday reported a 35% rise in its first-half profit, aided by new products like a cut-price motion capture camera system and a big contract with the Welsh Assembly. Chief Executive Nick Bolton told Dow Jones Newswires that although it is hard to predict trading during the rest of the year OMG has further products in its pipeline it expects to add sales, including a wearable camera designed to help Alzheimer's patients improve their memories. That product, Revue, began shipping in April and interest is high, he said. Bolton added OMG is on the lookout for acquisitions that could bring new visual technology products to its portfolio or open up new markets. At 1258 GMT, shares in OMG were 2 pence or 8.35 higher at 26 pence, outperforming a 1.1% higher Alternative Investment Market. OMG reported a pretax profit of GBP1.25 million for the six months to March 31, compared with a profit of GBP922,000 a year earlier. Revenue advanced 6% to GBP14.4 million. The company's motion capture camera systems are used in applications ranging from video games and movies to calibrating a robot's movement, working out the best position for controls in a vehicle or poring over a simulated car crash in slow motion. Bolton said the company's first-half earnings--which exceeded analysts' forecasts for the entire full year--reflected a much better performance at its core Vicon unit. Vicon earnings were aided by sales of Bonita, a compact motion capture camera pitched at about a third of the price of OMG's standard systems. Bolton said Bonita proved popular with researchers at smaller universities without the budget of their bigger peers and its size won customers who needed less bulky kit. First-half earnings also benefited from income from a four-year GBP4 million to GBP5 million contract between the Welsh Assembly and OMG unit Yotta to survey roads, as well as lower spending on research and development across the group as a whole. Also Wednesday, OMG said Scotland's Strathclyde University bought two Vicon T-Series systems for its electronic and electrical engineering and bioengineering departments. Financial terms weren't disclosed. Rumours have it that OMFG could be merging with OMG, "oh my go" how weird is that?
The Board is pleased to announce that Group revenue in the first half of the current financial year has developed well, such that we currently expect revenue for the first half to be slightly ahead compared with the same period last year. Furthermore, underlying growth at constant currency has been encouraging. Based on this performance, the Board expects to report a profit for the first half which would be consistent with the Group achieving market expectations for the full year." The Company will provide further information on trading when it announces its results for the six months ending 31 March 2010.
and I am not even a natural blond - but in my defence i was laughin
great news today and a jump to back it up. Largest ever contract won and 4 years worth to boot. Very good recovery play now this one IMO. Even the yanks starting to pull their weight a little.
Big Contract news announced today plus ex-dividend soon, 52 week low this week, deals with Microsoft. It doesn't get any better than this.
sorry mate but did have a quick look at the Chicago conf site but didnt find anything really... i know the camera is also being promoted for other uses like those with autism or OCD & it was to be OMG's first intro to the conf... GL
Many thanks for your response, I read the last couple of RNS’s with interest but I’ve not managed to dedicate as much time to this as I’d like as I’ve recently bought into another very promising tech company IDG ( IMO etc) Do you know if we have had an update or reaction to unveiling at the Neuroscience conference since end October as I’ve not seen anything, but as I say have not yet managed to spend much time looking. Thanks again and GL
OMG recently signed a licence agreement with Microsoft..Its Vicon arm, which develops motion capture products, will now be able to make and sell devices incorporating Microsoft's SenseCam technology worldwide. SenseCam is a wearable digital camera that takes photographs automatically, without user intervention. It’s currently used by medical researchers to help people with memory loss, but OMG will now investigate other uses. Following is an extract from the trading update for the financial year ended 30 September 2009 given on 20 Oct Trading in the second half of the year was similar to that seen in the first half in terms of revenue mix and market conditions. As a result, full year turnover is expected to be in excess of £26m generating full year profits broadly in line with market expectations. Sterling strengthened during the period, which reduced the unrealised foreign exchange book gains reported in the first half and resulted in unrealised foreign exchange losses in the second half. However, as a result of effective cash collection and inventory management the Group ended the year with a better than expected cash balance of £2.8m. Overall, the pipelines for the Group's businesses remain encouraging going into the new financial year.
