Merlin will drop out of the FTSE100 after the quarterly review took place. This may explain the price drop from 383p as was always a candidate after the mini crash Often dropped shares do well as new investors buy in - FTSE250 trackers etc GLA
The best-case scenario is one when volume surges without an accompanying surge in price. That typically means the buyers of a stock are more aggressive than the sellers. And once they take out the last shares the sellers have, the price just pops. https://www.moneyshow.com/articles/daytraders-4676/
heres your chance to buy
Yeah the Times (Collingridge) had it marked as avoid based on current business strategy I will buy again if it drops to lows again.
great to see that we have broken that resistance line!
Actually...you're right...their holding HAS decreased. In my eagerness ....misinterpreted the document. Strange the price went up as it did yesterday.... Finally this maybe starting to recover. GLA
The way I read it they've decreased, I'm sure those holdings forms are designed to confuse. Doesn't necessarily mean the sp won't increase though as seen it happen many times before, the market moves in mysterious ways
See todays RNS. All good..... price rising as well
Well that's novel, and welcome :) "As you held at least 317 Merlin Entertainments plc Shares at close of business on 6 November 2017 you qualify for a Merlin Shareholder Discount Code. The code entitles the holder to an up to 40% discount on either two adult Merlin Annual Passes or one Family Merlin Annual Pass purchase (Premium or Standard). "
Does anyone know if the shareholder annual pass discount scheme will be running again this year? Cant find anything about it for next years season 17/18, last years info is still up on the MERL website, and it was a year today for 16/17 so would have expected correspondence by now??
We've had Paultons park annual passes for 7 year in a row, just changed for Merlin annual passes Feb this year. Massive difference Paultons as immaculate everywhere (except water ride ). done all Merlin parks over summer hols and throughout year, tatty looking rides, puddles in queues list goes on. Needs investment in maintance side massively. Rant over but will be getting passes again next year.
Disappointing revenue slowed but did NOT drop........peeps as usual on these boards just making it up. Please read this...... http://www.lse.co.uk/share-sharecast-news.asp?shareprice=MERL&ArticleCode=26574635&ArticleHeadline=Merlin_mullered_after_missing_forecasts_as_terror_attacks_weigh
where did you get your information on turn over dropping? The financials have not yet been released for 2017.
I recently was in Blackpool with the family and went to some of the Merlin Group's sites there. To be frnak, Blackpool has a lot of entertainment for families, and Merlin has a Blackpool Dungeon, a Sealife Centre, a Madame Tussauds, the Tower and so on. The problem is, some of these venues were very poor value for money. We went to the waxworks which was fairly empty despite it being in the August holidays, and to the Dungeon [only one other family there]. The reason? the price - just ridiculous to be charging so much outside London and they insist on taking your photo as soon as you walk in, and then charging you for it, which is really irritating. There is a limit to what ordinary families can afford, and taking the Tower for example: all you get is a lift ride to the top of the Tower and then obviously the view from the top. Price? 13.50 per adult and 10.50 per child. How on earth is that meant to be good value? I'm sorry but until they stop overcharging everyone for what are unexceptional attractions, and the waxworks was dated with a number of poor waxworks as well, once cannot expect revenues to pick up. Merlin need to rethink investing more into hotels and put a bit more effort into their attractions. They also need to rethink their pricing models at these places. Nowhere else ever charges these sorts of prices. That is why their turnover is dropping.
Paultons Park has done exceptionally well with the highly popular Peppa Pig World. If Merlin can emulate something similar this will be a great addition. With eOne commissioning new episodes and expanding into new regions this will help ensure its longevity. It’ll take time to implement but happy to hold for a return to growth.
Can Merlin bounce back from 20% slump? http://www.iii.co.uk/articles/452617/can-merlin-bounce-back-20-slump?utm_campaign=afternoon%20update%2017/10/17&utm_content=1039501711420&utm_medium=email&utm_source=SmartFocus Excellent article. I bought more today GLA DYOR
I think the hotel strategy is worthless. You can do most of these attractions in a day. And they want an arm and leg to stay in them. Fook that! You stay at disney and you have access to 4 parks, and you need 2 days to do each. Putting all your eggs in the pepper pig basket is a big risk too. How long till Angus the Armodildo or Katie the feminist man eating Kroc-O-dile cartoon wipes pipper off the tv. SELL
They must think investors are a bunch of dummies to believe the terrorism point. We will all end up in Madame Tussaud at this rate. They are making a right pigs ear of the company (a peppa one at that) £100m saving on capex is the wrong call. You just have to look at the worn out theme parks in Cornwall at the lower end to see the impact when you stop refreshing the parks And when you cut costs you get accidents A definite sell for me Maybe high tech has replaced the thrill theme parks used to give
Broker Liberum is reviewing its forecasts after the update, which it said highlighted increased risk for investors. The re-allocation of 100mln of investment cash away from theme parks towards hotels will dilute returns, for example. Neil Wilson, senior market analyst at ETX Capital, is more optimistic over the hotel room expansion. Investing in hotels makes sense. Enabling visitors to stay overnight at its attractions is a key part of the strategy as it boosts earnings potential, average spend, and stimulates additional demand. Even so, he added the comments on tourism dont tally with the figures showing record inbound visitors, which may be indicative of a problem with some of the older attractions. If you are prepared to look linger term, there are potentially good revenue streams to come through and it has the Peppa Pig franchise, which has become a global phenomenon. Or according to Danny Cox at Hargreaves Lansdown: Overall, Merlin is something of a curates egg at the moment and the group will need to work hard to keep the numbers moving in the right direction. Shares fell 18% to 368.4p. http://www.proactiveinvestors.co.uk/companies/news/185716/merlin-entertainments-short-of-magic-says-city-185716.html
Went 2 months ago with family and with 2 autistic kids and the service was diabolical! Apparently you can only go on 1 ride and have to wait a certain time then go on it again. Also you can only take 1 autustic kid at a time which took the biscuit. To top it off safety was below the level i would expect given what happened last year on one of the rides. Was trying to get on the high rail ride to go to the other side and the teenager who was manning the ride did not even stop the cart - we had 5 kids and 2 prams to put on the cart! I complained and the only thing i got from the teenager was a frown! Never again.
i went to Alton Towers and the bloody place closed at 6pm on a saturday during the summer!!! Im not suprised the SP has fallen it should be well below 3!
