Why is this vote meaningful? Does this mean that other votes by the HOC have been meaningless. Should HOC day to day votes be meaningless - because they are not meaningful - should all laws passed as a result of votes of the meaningless be annulled? Does it follow that laws passed as a result of meaningless votes should result in the dissolution of Parliament and the abolition of the Lords?
If Obamacare is considered to be unconstitutional by the judges of several US states - then - both the US & UK are in crisis. It will not end well.
To be 'meaningful' it must result in either
accepting the TM withdrawal deal, paying £39 billion with no trade deal and no guarantee of leaving the EU or
a clean Brexit
LTI - so it absolutely clear then.
So simple really. Why can't people see this.
My post sought to exact exactly what you have stated Thank you
Just a few words from a prominent MEP
For two years, we have been wilfully narrowing our options until, with 100 days to go, we have three ugly possibilities before us. “It’s my deal, no deal or no Brexit”, Theresa May kept saying and, at 9.00pm on Wednesday, that statement became true. The only way to widen the choice would have been for a different Prime Minister to go to Brussels with a different offer – a Prime Minister who was genuinely ready to walk away if the other side remained vindictive.
But there won’t be a new PM. Conservative MPs chose to keep one whose defining characteristic is inflexibility. Supporters call it resilience and opponents call it obstinacy, but it amounts to the same thing. The lady is not for turning. She is committed to her deal, backstop and all. She believes in it, she tells us, with every fibre of her being. Even if she were able to change it, she wouldn’t, and EU negotiators know it.
There was speculation that some MPs were looking for an excuse to drop their opposition to the proposed Withdrawal Agreement. But Mrs May cannot now offer them a fig-leaf, or even a pine needle. The EU isn’t bothering to pretend that it wants or expects the backstop to be temporary. Why should it? The backstop holds the British market captive for continental companies, who run a large surplus here, and removes any possibility that a more free-trading Britain might out-compete its neighbours.
As a footnote
Never mind that a no-deal scenario would damage all 28 states – perhaps especially Ireland. As the story of the euro shows, Eurocrats are prepared to accept a great deal of pain in order to advance the goal of political union. Actually, “accept” is the wrong word since, being exempt from national taxes, they are spared the consequences of their own policies. “Inflict” would be more accurate.
What a wonderful world we live in eh?
and as an addendum - rumour has it:
another possibility which is both more coherent and more sinister.
That is, that running parallel with the official negotiations being conducted by the UK government there has been a dark operation by Team Remain which quietly busied itself in the corridors of Brussels. Its most spectacular success has been the elevation of the Irish border question to the status of Insoluble Problem when, as has been argued with much evidence and eloquence, it is really a fiction
The EU seized on this issue of which they had been, in the innocent early days, totally oblivious, with joyous alacrity as did, needless to say, the Irish Taoiseach, Leo Varadkar who has seen himself propelled from the outermost fringe of the EU’s consciousness to international stardom.
Still your trflon lady A1?
JL it's not a rumour it is what's happened. The civil service have essentially done a coup d'etat how many brexit secretaries have they spat out. This deal must be rejected a deal deliberately so poor that remaining in this mess looks attractive. Let's leave these crooks and go WTO as we voted.
JL on Obamacare it was an honest attempt to correct a market failure in us healthcare. The failing in Obama is that it is carried out with sticks rather than carrots and it doesn't promote competition in healthcare. If Congress can sort these two things the good things out of Obama care with more being civered might be retained.
Excellent set of posts JL. Good reading.

But how do those who have some knowledge of the state of play make those not fully aware of the utter mischief ( Treason) by T Bliar and his mates , Ruddy Rudd and her brother et al that they are being hoodwinked?
Amber Rudd really is someone I think it's impossible to warm to. I can't see a positive in her. She's a technicrat drunk on power promoted far beyond her ability with no ideas of her own. A female version of Henry Collingridge, neither backbone nor bottom! A total cipher in fact.
BB on Obamacare
My point was that the judiciary seem ever more keen to involve themselves in matters of Government than before. It is as if they are those that decide the laws rather than apply the laws.
PS Obamacare needed reform - and does need reform - but is it useful for the judiciary to determine the constitutional correctness or otherwise of what has happened- not what may be going to happen.
The postings are extracts of articles which should appear in the press tomorrow. Postings to assist enlighten of the problem facing us.
I'm actually convinced if the civil service told Hammond, Rudd and May to pogo at the top of box hill they'd all do it without question. With this lot in charge no wonder we are being played like a fiddle.
Yes agree JL there are so many checks and balances on political class that have the rule of lawyers there.

But they would not be able to find Box Hill without EU guidance. Only climbed up once many years ago. Leafy, pleasant with no neighbours - just me and the 2b wife.
Hammond, May and Rudd all eat their soup with a fork because it's an EU directive.
