Thanks for sharing Lottie. See this is a query I made sometime ago.... how is this not contravening rules on state aid to private companies? I think Stokey countered my belief at the time that we could get government grants etc rather than placings. I also queried it with infa and was told this form of funding wasn't available. Many months later we have been diluted by 2 placings. Being in the EU was muted as a reason. Then breaking WTO rules was a reason. I think the simple fact is our government has been unwilling to provide support to industry whilst others are happy to do so. I now trust our politicians even less than I did before I went to bed if that was possible :p on a lighter note, loving the big metal lifty thingy comment :D
Fill yer boots boys. Here's some nite time reading on those gantry cranes . . . or big metal lifty things Si ;-)

Stokey,for shipbuilding I think
Stokey, mostly for the reach I would imagine. They can swing things into position from elsewhere. Although they can both be on wheels/tracks a gantry may be able to carry a larger dead weight as its supported at both ends.
Just my thoughts, not a liftologist. :)

Sorry this may be a stupid question but what do you use a gantry crane for and why would you use a Henson crane instead of a gantry crane?
I don't know anything about it Drango whether it's new, reconditioned, etc.
Have a look at the Harland & Wolff Facebook page. They've a photo of it there with over 600 comments on it re the naming of it. Some of them are quite funny.
ThisTimeNextYeer In relation to your 17.09 post something is definitely as in this Linkedin post https://www.linkedin.com/feed/update/urn:li:activity:6806575867116982272/ some engineering vacancies are being advertised. Of most interest is the one for a Naval Engineer. Why would they need one or more of those?
TTNY, yes would think we will find out soon why it was purchased. Do you know if it's new or a reconditioned crane?
Stokey (11.58). Although from the photo the new crane is a fair size, it's still a tiddler compared to the Samson & Goliath cranes, so it wouldn't go close to replacing either of them.
My thoughts are that it could be for the BDD as it only currently has 2 Henson cranes servicing it, and not the gantry type cranes like Samson & Goliath on the BBD. (The new crane is a gantry type like S & G).
I'm encouraged to see this new gantry crane coming as it would have been quite an expensive article and you don't incur expenditure like that unless there's a very good reason. We just don't know what the reason (or contract) is yet.
Remember the new welding machine came into H & W Belfast recently too and the fanfare they made of that. That wasn't purchased for no reason either !
There's definitely something afoot and i believe we're going to find out very soon.

Dublin Swift has now arrived at H&W . Back to two vessels being be worked on at H&W.I have a feeling more news this month which will hopefully finally lift the SP
Don't get excited until the touch widens. At this low level, a tight spread indicates that one or more MMs has a large seller.
Dublin Swift is on its way to Belfast due to arrive soon.Onwards & upwards.

Not sure stokey12 I guess an addition which bodes well for the future.
Chrisatrdg In relation to your 11.39 post I note that yesterday ThisTimeNextYeer made reference to a post on Facebook that Belfast is getting a third crane. I wonder what they are expecting why they need a third crane unless one of the two existing ones is being retired.
Some good large buy trades and MMs are moving prices up, 3 of them.
We have a small improvement in the SP & a further expansion of the 'INFA' workforce based on the numbers reported on LinkedIn & advertising for new positions.
Surely news should be breaking soon if so 'Time to Buy'?
Lottie123 In relation to your 11.14 post this was raised at the last roadshow. The response to the question about it seemed to indicate that the sticking point was the funding of the project. Understandably INFA would not want to go ahead with the project without certainty of funding. Even if the Triumph does not go ahead by the end of this month I think that if INFA gets its fingers out it should be able to salvage the Isle of Scilly work (See the thread on this in particular from Si Derman. I am not sure if you have any connections with the BoD but if you do you might what to give them a nudge.
It is now six months since this was signed. The company stated end June to finalise details. This contract would be transformative for INFA. I have added again at this level and believe the companies continued optimism of adding new employees is a sign they are confident for the future. I accept the risk of losing (my) money should they fail to capture any meaningful business. We all know that technology is where the hot money is. I would rather be part of the effort to rejuvenate a very important part of our industrial heritage. Falling populations in the three super ship builders, China, Japan and S.Korea may help with the shift back to stronger regional shipbuilding. The government's of the developed world need to reverse the transfer of industrial jobs to the far east.
Apparently they have, but no one responded to their e-mails. ;)
Si_Derman and Drango Thanks for your posts so Appledore has the facilities and the historical connections to do the job all that is needed is the finance. I wonder if they have been in touch with the BoD?
Plus two 60 T overhead cranes , 3958 sq m covered dry dock , outfitting and commissioning quay can take vessels up to 200m in length
118m x 33.5m
This article shows what is envisaged. I cannot recall how long the dock at Appledore is it may be that the dock is not large enough. https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-cornwall-57343472?at_custom3=Regional+BBC+South+West&at_custom2=twitter&at_campaign=64&at_custom1=link&at_custom4=04E0D8CC-C469-11EB-BB55-532B3A982C1E&at_medium=custom7
