It will be 12 weeks Monday since the PC finished.
I'm sure at some point, just by the law of averages, some will call it right. lol
Just thinking that behind the scenes there's a lot of "tweeking" going on so personaly, keeping any large purchases till we know for definite.
And I don't care if I miss out on any initial rise on the day.
I know that without it the company will go on, what with everything else they have in the pipeline, excuse the pun, but it will be a big blow if we don't. So just being over careful, I guess.
Cheers, Si. :)
Just topped up myself .. have a great weekend all .. that ML can’t be too far away .. locked and loaded !
Great Link Thistime .........need you to change your I.D. to say ThisTimeNextWeek !! We then should be well in the Blue on the basis that we have a team that can progress the most valued heritage that we own ..or nearly own once we pay off the short term debt..with no bad news and the SP near to the entry level of the II's, then now could be a good time to take the plunge, assuming of course that Covid does not come back with a second bite and that you have all confidence in the ML as I do !!
This isn't directly INFA related, but I've just found this website re H & W.
It's absolutely fascinating to read about the company history, look at all photos (inc the building of Samson & Goliath cranes) and to see the type of work H & W has done over the years, inc tanks, trains, bridges and even the construction of 2 churches.
You can also view a list of every single ship constructed in the yard, who owned it, type of vessel and it's fate. Some of these are still active, some scrapped, some sank, some scuttled and there's even a few that were torpedoed during the war.
Sorry posting this when it isn't share related but i thought it might be of interest to some folk interested in a bit more info about H & W and it's heritage. I've popped the link below.

Topped up again this morning. Each week that passes draws us closer to the decision. The large seller is clearly still active but I am happy to add whilst stock under pressure.
Hi Drango - I emailed them in April this year to ask what they were doing to get share of frigate work to H&W - they replied 6th May 2020- I read the part about appledore as being what was in the original strategy for the works .
Unite NI said they would keep me posted on developments so will update here any further replies
Gonna say, according to local media Appledore has been "on the verge or close to" opening for ages.
Last thing I heard was something about a fleet of fishing boats for the Faroe Islands.
gmharg thanks for your post today 10.03 . Not sure when you got the info from NI unite, but Bab.... Appledore has been shut down ,and awaits a buyer. The guys from the yard travel daily to Bab---- Devonport for work. I believe Scottish government nationalised Ferguson at the end of 2019 ,but I need to read up on that one.
Unfortunately successive governments have failed to realise we live on a island and need ships for for transportation of our manufactured goods.
well the unions are pushing for it, but its solely down to BabC procurement - government intervention to ensure works are shared to other ship builders is key here enforcing the national shipbuilding initiative and H&W stand a chance. But also note the tie in with H&W and Navantia will make them direct competitors of BabC for the fleet solid support programme !! so not sure tbh
I think the probability of wind farm contracts is higher at the minute.
gmharg, do you think we could see the return of some of these contracts to H&W?
This is what I got back from NI unite union when I asked about H&W and frigate work
Bab****'s original build strategy for T31e had been aligned with the intent of the National Shipbuilding Strategy (NsBS) by adopting a distributed build approach whereby elements of the work would be undertaken in Yards across UK namely, England (Bab**** - Appledore), Scotland (Ferguson), NI (H&W) with assembly in Scotland (Bab**** - Rosyth).
Although H&W had been part of the Bab**** led consortia, we understand it was as a sub-contractor not a risk bearing partner. Meaning H&W would be required to bid for T31e work.
Upon entering Administration, the T31e agreement between Bab**** and H&W formally ended and Bab**** proceeded to submit their T31e bid at the end of June 2019, based on all activities being undertaken in Rosyth.
However, Bab**** have stated that sub-contracting would be considered for T31e if and when it made sense to do so e.g. capacity and/or schedule driven demands.
More generally, the wider (proposed) 30 year naval shipbuilding program provides further opportunities for H&W and other UK Yards. To that end, local Union representatives are pushing for Government policy which would mandate a UK wide workshare and emphasised that full economic prosperity benefits and retention of skills across all regions should be a prime consideration in policy development.
Morning speedy, thanks for the timeline. Occasionally someone has posted contract awards by babc regarding the frigates, so hopefully they will award a tip bit to us in similar fashion. Let's hope the 80 mill is still up for grabs too! So much potential for h&w it's almost unreal, just got to wait and trust that the team JW has formed is up to the task. Have a nice day all
On 12 August 2019, one week after entering administration, H&W was due to sign a contract understood to be worth as much as £80m with the oil firm Suncor for upgrades to a floating oil storage vessel, the Terra Nova.
Obviously it didn’t happen.
https://www.theguardian.com/business/2019/aug/05/harland-and-wolff-shipyard-expected-to-go-into-administration-belfast
And then…………
Suncor and Terra Nova field partners last year sanctioned the Terra Nova Asset Life Extension (ALE) project – aimed at extending the production life and capture approximately 80 million barrels of oil for the Terra Nova Partnership.
Under the plan, the field was to go offline six to seven months in 2020, with FPSO planned to sail to a dry dock facility in Spain to undergo upgrades.
However, Suncor in May 2020 said it was evaluating alternate options for the Terra Nova Asset Life Extension, "as Spain is no longer able to accommodate the planned dry dock work due to that country’s COVID19 response."
https://www.oedigital.com/news/478944-suncor-extinguishes-fire-on-terra-nova-fpso
I wonder if the designated work in Spain was due to be at Navantia?
If the Terra Nova is still a ship without an available dry dock I hope JW is making advances to win back lost business!
Jabido. It makes more sense if you look at the timeline of events:
May 2018 - Babc0ck Team31 launches bid (including H&W)
Nov 2018 - Dolphin Drilling / Fred Olsen Energy in trouble - looks to sell H&W
Jun 2019 - Dolphin Drilling bankrupt - H&W for sale
Aug 2019 - H&W goes into administration
Sept 2019 - Team31 wins prefered bidder award
Oct 2019 - Infa buys H&W
Nov 2019 - Team31 receives formal award
Feb 2020 - First frigate in service date slips by 4 years!
Jun 2020 - No mention of H&W or Ferguson Marine contracts as part of winning consortium??
P. S. He hasn't found the time to reply to my email yet though lol.
Speedy I think you are making a worthy point, if I interpret correctly. I also am looking out for any contract wins from babc for the frigates, and they have yet to appear. However please note the article was written in September so quite rightly bab**** at that time would have been cautious. Nothing to suggest we aren't in the running now though. Here's hoping. Brandon Lewis retweeted the stena tweet. Bodes well I believe. Gla
Do Bab**** engineering have anything to do with bae trident building program at Barrow in Furness?
Hi Speedy_Gonzalez- Interesting post the contents of which I am not surprised at.I have some experience in procurement following internal auditing the sub-contracts dept at Foster Wheeler now part of Wood Group very many years ago & as part of a procurement team in the NHS reviewing the financial viability of companies wanting to get onto the bidders list.I have also worked for one of the divisions of Bab****s & their comments are spot on.However JW realises what he needs to achieve & is one of the reasons he has linked in with Navantia, S.A, S.M.E. still all to play for but financial viability is absolutely critical & H&W are not there yet.
Whatamess. My point is JW hasn't released ANY news! H&W were part of the winning consortium so what, besides going into and out of administration, prevents H&W from receiving a piece of the £1.25B pie? It's a huge contract won, quite probably, on the basis of the new National Shipbuilding Strategy yet neither Bab**** or H&W have released any concrete news to confirm what part/roles will be shared by other shipyards. Capiche??
'What a lovely evening to welcome another vessel into the yard.'
https://twitter.com/Harland_Wolff1/status/1273328051967975426
It's odd how JW has never followed through and informed shareholders on how involved, or not, H&W will be especially as the yard has found "new legs"? Perhaps negotiations for minor blockwork is still ongoing and yet to be announced.........
https://www.newscabal.co.uk/type-31-frigate-work-for-struggling-yards-in-doubt/
From the article above:
Bab**** International has warned there is no guarantee that the two struggling shipyards in Northern Ireland and Scotland that were part of the winning team to build new warships for the Royal Navy will secure any work. The warning by the defence contractor, which was named preferred bidder for the £1.25bn Type 31 frigate contract on Thursday, will come as a blow to the 473 workers at Belfast’s Harland & Wolff and Scotland’s Ferguson Marine Engineering on the Clyde that both collapsed into administration in August.Archie Bethel, chief executive of Bab****, which led the bid team, told the FT both yards would “get a chance to bid” but the company “would not risk the programme”.
“We never guaranteed they would get any work, they are not expecting that,” he said.
Both yards, Mr Bethel added, would have to “pass the same hurdles that any suppliers have to pass in terms of financial security and security of supply. Assuming that [any] new owners can do that, they will be included in the process”.
