I'm of the view now that the country is not sustainable or functioning in it's current direction of travel and that change is needed. The thought of a labour government only a few months ago would make me shiver but now I'm beginning to think they are the lesser of two evils with the current incumbents having been responsible for much of the **** in the first place.
> With the SNP and then destroying Scotland's only income?
Westminster has been robbing Scotland of North Sea oil revenue for 30 years.
Then has the audacity to accuse Scotland of being subsidy junkies.
Independence from the brexit clown house by the Thames can't come fast enough.
Referring to the manifesto tax as a Windfall Tax is a blatant party political lie. Windfall implies massive and/or unexpected profits. In real terms oil has rarely been cheaper. Oil is already one of the highest taxed products there is.
It would probably be unlikely to raise additional tax on such a product since nobody would be able to afford to buy. If they raised the tax to 1000% it wouldn't even register on the income required to finance the Labour manifesto. If they totally impoverished every millionaire (including say half the 'mortgage free' home owners in London. Erm that's you Jeremy Corbin!), that wouldn't put a dent in the Labour manifesto requirements. Stealing part of every private pension, would seriously dent the amount of income tax collected. Little CGT from a crashed stock market. The cost of housing huge numbers of people thrown out of their devalued homes due to negative equity. A sizeable chunk of Jews & hence Jewish capital that would emigrate. I could go on & on. There would be no reason left for anyone to strive for betterment.
If you think people reduced there spending because of Brexit uncertainty, that would be nothing compared to the spending reduction that would take place if Labour got into power. Less VAT, lower fewer jobs / income tax, more benefit expenditure.
From what I just this minute read the windfall tax, if it ever comes to be, will be applied company by company depending on past contribution of that company to climate change. Cant see much impact on HUR then, more the likes of BP and Shell
Interesting views... and logical views, hope you are right. I didnt think Trump would win...and he did. No certainty, but good opinion with regard SNP and Scottish income.
It may get chopped from the manifesto, suicidal ifbthey want any Scottish seats.
In a minority government I can’t see that policy being adopted.
With the SNP and then destroying Scotland's only income?
No worries for most small uk oilers, including hur - they all lose money and have big tax losses already.
...but do stand a chance of leading a minority government.
If the UK goes completely daft and votes in the Marx(ist) Brothers Jed and John it is unlikely to have much of an impact on the SP imo ; as always it would eventually be be passed on to Joe Public

Labour have zero chance of winning a general election.
Any opinions / concern here on what impact will be if Labour win election on come into power. Especially as they want to tax oil companies.
Extract Below:
Labour has drawn up plans for a windfall tax on the oil industry as part of its attempt to shift the UK towards a low-carbon, green economy, prompting anger from some union officials.
