Hi WW. Its not a case of " getting it " ....it's just that stating the bleedin obvious isnt profound or genius . We all " get it " that a cleaner planet is better for our children and grandchildren but there is also the matter of pragmatism. Anyone can bang on about green this and environment that BUT not to actually tell us the answer to getting there is pointless. If all oil stopped flowing tomorrow there would be no food in the shops , the lights would go out and in under a week neighbour would be killing neighbour for food. We can only go at a certain pace that the infrastructure allows . Wind power etc is just not enough and with the depletion of fossil fuels Im sure there are some fabulous minds working on " actual " solutions . The likes of prince Harry and Decaprio preaching to us and then jumping on their gas guzzling planes and super yachts just gets up people's noses and problably has an adverse effect. Anyway that's my last word on it....I haven't fallen out with you over the past 4 or 5 years so will not start now . We do " get it " but lets have solitions not self promoting, empty grandstanding
An idea would be to bus all the Tree Huggers to the active Volcanos currently erupting in the World, they could then march up to the top and complain bitterly at the amount of CO2 being emitted...
“Empty grandstanding “
I don’t recall anyone elevating the profile of the need for climate action other than Sir David Attenborough, than Greta. That’s the point and if she burns some carbon to make it which makes thousands or millions of others consider their environmental impact then what’s the issue?
Anyway had enough of this pointless discussion.

"If I’ve learned anything since posting on this forum, it’s that some people here just either don’t get something, or can’t get it."
I'd like to know where I can get a free lunch.
Wellwell you say:-
"Anyway had enough of this pointless discussion."
That's rich coming from you since you were the one who started this idiotic discussion in the first place.
"That's rich coming from you since you were the one who started this idiotic discussion in the first place."
"Oh no I didn't."
"Oh yes you did."
"Oh no I didn't."
etc., ad inf...
Adoubleuk,”I’d like to know where i can get a free lunch .” If you go into any Gurdwara Sikh temple you will be given a free lunch or dinner and non alcoholic drinks. You won’t be asked to pray or give a donation but will have to cover your hair with a bandana which they will provide for you.The food will be vegetarian, no meat I’m afraid.Oh,before anyone jumps to conclusions about me pushing a religion,I’ve been an atheist for about 50 odd years and would never dream about setting foot inside any religious building.I have a lot of Sikh friends who have given me food from the temple and it’s always tasted yummy,Klepto.
'I was once told that the definition of an alcoholic is someone who drinks more than his doctor.'
I had a doctor friend who did some scans for me and she advised me to take up beer-drinking and also disapproved of the fact I didn't smoke.
One of her doctor friends smoked like a chimney.
I didn't take her advice and hardly ever touch alcohol.
Any advice from a doctor, like that from a stockbroker, should be treated with caution.
I've just been taking my supper on the (rather chilly) terrace of a beachside restaurant in Royan, next to the casino. The eatery is called 'Face à New York ' ('Opposite New York '), and it is. View over the Bay of Biscay, keep going and it's the USA.
Rotten weather: overcast grey, no more than 20 degrees, seas rather high.
Couldn't help wondering if little Ms Thumsuck has found her sea-legs yet...
Greta has not been seasick yet and is now unlikely to be.
Totally enthralled about the kakapo on the New Zealand documentary on BBC 4, worth a watch
Totally ambivalent to Greta Thunderbird. The world has gone mad and seriously needs to get a grip. So do you wellwell. Or stop investing in hydrocarbon companies. No. Just get a grip.
wellwell
As you have expressed so much support and admiration for Miss Thunberg has she persuaded you to change your carbon emitting habits?
So will you be holidaying at lake Garda again.
Wellwell, your last post was a bit random, do you have anything actually constructive to say or add?
No. I thought not.
Probably yes. Great holiday. Off to Florida first. First time with the kids. Full monty.
I’m not there yet with carbon zero living , none of us are, but we never used to give it a moments thought yet here we are with people telling me to shut up.....yet thinking about it. That’s a start and who knows where that can lead.
Great post SIPP. As deep as a spoon.
Wow. I'm almost speechless, but not quite. That has to be the lamest comeback of all time.
But, good luck with your trip to Florida. Some serious carbon begging burned there. You are not even close to being there yet with carbon zero living. You are having a total giraffe.
The jury is no longer out. You are a total wind up merchant with an agenda. And an interesting c***to boot.
wellwell is acting like a hypocritical tree hugging environmentalist NIMBY.
If “off to Florida first” is not being conducted by means of a sail powered longboat, and is in fact being performed by means of a Jet A-1 burning pressurised cigar tube with wings, then one could logically suggest that “he who is without blame should cast the first stone”.
And here endothelial the sermon for the evening.
As usual you and others are deliberately missing the point. That’s fine.
“endothelial” ?
Bloody autocorrect ...... grrrrrrrrr
“endothelial” = “endeth”
wellwell
I genuinely hope that you and you family enjoy your holiday in Florida, but you will be getting there and back by air. Do you really think that Miss Thunbergs publicity stunt is going to have any significant impact on the extent of world air travel?
As the less developed parts of the world continue to get richer they will want to spend that spare cash on life’s little luxuries like foreign holidays that we in the developed world have been enjoying for so long. But no we say you have to reduce you carbon footprint. Do you think they will listen?
Are they listening in China?
https://edition.cnn.com/travel/article/china-new-airports/index.html
Doesn’t look like it.
Currently, there are 3 billion - read that, 3 billion - passengers flown annually. And that number will only increase.
And to hear wellwell on here pontificating And spouting ****e and then doing the very thing he is advocating against, is laughable.
Me? I fly regularly to far flung destinations but at least I don't say one thing and do another.
The planet is not in jeopardy. Civilisation might be, but not until oil runs out and that won't even be in our children's lifetime.
Hereth endeth the sermoneth.
Thank you and good night.
Wellwell,
"I’m not there yet with carbon zero living , none of us are, but we never used to give it a moments thought"
And as posted before, I still don't! When I fuel up my car I think about how much it costs, and then whether it's a 'good tankful'. (The quality of diesel can vary enormously, and shows up in fuel consumption.)
Although I have no proof for it, I'd submit that the vast majority of people in first-world countries (ie those being bombarded by this climate-change stuff on a daily basis via assorted media) don't give a hoot about their 'carbon footprint'. I'm also willing to bet that most people who buy electric cars very rarely make long journeys, and yes, for such people an electric car makes a lot of sense. They might get a warm 'green feeling' out of having done so, but the bottom line is probably their bank-balance, not 'saving the planet'.
