Any reason why this dropped 6% over the past week or so?
Are they still midway through the £3bn buyback or has that ended?
Can I just check, do we have an estimated pay date for the final interim dividend and also the separate special dividend on the back of the Canada sale?
Am I right in saying the Canada dividend is expected to be $0.21 per share and the final interim dividend is expected to be $0.34 per share?
To take on Fintecs Revolut etc

Hi All,
It is a long while since I have posted on this site, but we are still holding the HSBC shares we were left over twenty years ago!
Which time period do we tend to use to calculate the (annual) dividend yield?
Some will use the tax year, while others will use the calendar year.
Whichever time period we use, surely yield is based on the price paid per share.
We took advantage of the Rights Issue way back in 2009, and still hold those shares, so the yield on them is very good indeed - whichever annual time period is used.
As HSBC reports and declares dividends in US currency, there is the added complication for UK investors of the exchange rates used to distribute the dividends.
HSBC never declares a final dividend - it is always a further interim dividend, so at the annual results it will most likely be a fourth interim dividend, but I make no predictions as to how much that will be.
For this calendar year that has almost ended, we are very happy with the dividends we have received.
All the best for 2024.
Regards,
Steve
Total 50 cents? dividend at the current exchange rate is about 39p
HSBC said it is considering a special dividend of 21 cents a share from the proceeds in the first half of 2024.

AJ Bell has it at 6.7% dividend yield

Do not HSBC have a backup when the primary system goes belly up?
But fear not, bonuses will be unaffected by this shambles!
Seems to be okay now to smash HSBC's windows if you're with Extinction Rebellion !! They weren't even fined !! What a strange message that the British legal system sends out !! I wonder whose windows I'll smash tomorrow - Number 10 ?
'Simply Wall street" is not written by a person, it's just a collection of snippets from a multitude of websites & chatrooms pulled together into a so-called 'summary'. So, the various elements of the summary are not written by the same people, it's just a collection of opinions, not necessarily all analysts or professionals. The SP will break out eventually, when the market does; barring wars, volcanoes, asteroid hits.
Simply wall street summary:
REWARDS
Trading at 58.9% below our estimate of its fair value
Earnings grew by 133.4% over the past year
Analysts in good agreement that stock price will rise by 31.6%
RISK ANALYSIS
Earnings are forecast to decline by an average of 5.9% per year for the next 3 years
Unstable dividend track record.
If earnings are forecast to decline 5.9% pa then why do these 'analysts' think the sp is going to grow by 31.6%?
Sorry I should have said at least 19c plus half of the Q4 EPS.
Secretdev950
You are probably right that there may be a very good final div.
At full year 2022 HSBC said they were targeting a 50% payout ratio for 2023 and 2024 and reiterated this at the Q3 results so it’s very likely that they will do so for at least 2023.
Although they have announced divs of 30c so far this year they have already accrued 49c per share for the ordinary div. So unless something drastic happens then the final div should be 19c plus half of the Q4 EPS.

Can't see 50% of EPS.
Need to look at bigger picture in markets matey.
China property market is going bad. They have built too many flats that not even the entire population would fill.
You gave Evergrande in dire straights.
I'd just concentrate on the SP going NORTH for now abd not backwards

Looks like as per Q3 2023 they are aiming for a dividend payment of 50% EPS??
Q3 2023 had earnings per share ($) 1.15
Q4 2022 has earnings per share ($) 0.23
If HSBC hit the same growth 1.15 + 0.23 = $1.38 for the full year 2023
If we are aiming for 50% payment based on an EPS of $1.38 = $0.69
$0.69 - the 0.30 that has already been paid = $0.39 for the final dividend?
The HSBC consensus document from Oct 2023 marks the final EPS for 2023 as $1.35
Hi all,
I follow and invest in both US / Swiss & UK equities, more so USA since 2011.
I believe banks are in huge trouble because they bought Mortgage Backed Securities and Treasuries at much lower rates than today.
On top of this 1% deposits being drained from them to get 5% Cd's and money market funds.
I was watching 'Regions Financial'. Look at what happened to them Last Friday 20th October, ticker RF, and also HSBC, GS, CITI, and Morgan Stanley all hit 52 week lows..
This is going to end badly with the fed as usual to the rescue with taxpayer money and rate cuts and more QE money printing because they are proven to do this over and over again. The banks and markets more important than inflation fighting but the banks and financials are nowhere to put your money these days.
Also, should Banks not be trading at higher P/E than at present if making billions. Or is this just a smoke screen
