Is on the move but can’t see a destination as yet
Appears it may be sea trials
Broomtree ref 11.41 post vesselfinder is showing the destination as VILANOVA_ALGECIRAS due to arrive on 23 April see here for details https://www.vesselfinder.com/vessels/details/9840013
Stokey, Vilanova is where it has been all the time since it was first mentioned as the new ferry on the Scrutiny Committee meeting. Seems it left the port around 10:00 this morning.
Just watched the past track since it left port. Sped up, stopped a few times, did some manouvers and accelerated off again. If it starts doing doughnuts then it's porbably been knicked by joyriders. :) If the secrecy they employed to get the Samson from port to port is used then they might not be providing a destination just yet. At least they have the transponder on so it can be tracked as it progresses along its journey. Seems a bit far out from port to be just sea trials.
Si - had a wee look last night and could find the Samson anywhere - have you located her?
Yes. Going by the pictures posted on FB she moored up opposite "The Boat Shed" in Penzance. Not sure why all the secrecy at keeping the transponder off and then they go and post pics? Bit of cat and mouse going on with the Steamship Co. I guess. Previously called the Jenna and before that the Arromanches. Lots of pics of her as she was previously on the vessels tracking sites. Even some of her on a Normandy beach.

Located that blue building on street view to narrow it down. :)
Well she doesn't appear to be heading back to where she set off from. Progress appears slow, unless I'm misunderstanding.
Will she rest up or just keep going? Dependent on crew ?
No knowledge of this stuff. How far can she travel without refuelling ?
According to the guy that runs the Scilly FB page, who does seem to know about this kind of thing, " She could do the trip on a single tank of fuel @12 knots in 8 days - but that is dependant on weather and crew... they are probably going non-stop to destination as long as they have enough food… they will only be burning 200 litres an hour @ 12 knots and she holds 14m3 of fuel…. So would expect to see her in a south coast port before end of month if all goes to plan"
Still heading towards Gibraltar but still showing Vilanova as her destination due there tomorrow at 11.00am?
Better turn around soonish then as by that time it could be going through the straights of Gibraltor. :) If it maintains it's current speed and direction.
It's looks to be stopping off in Gibraltor.
Seems like the original target that said "VILANOVA_ALGECIRAS" was right. But it should have been read as Vilanova to Algeciras. As Algeciras is a port in the bay of Gibraltor and is where the AW is pulling into at the mo. :) Will have to see what they change the next destination too once it's docked.
Interesting. Thought it might have pushed on a bit further north.
Looking like another night in Lisbon unclear if it’s just an extended rest period or issues
Departing 16.00 hrs tomorrow, not sure if next stop
Even with two who have licences to sail the cat, there will be strict regs as to how many hours they can sail ( don't know terminology) without rest periods and probably maximum amt in a set time period. I would guess that they are having to plan carefully crossing Bay of Biscay, both wind & swell, it can be very rough. Wonder if they'll hug the coast ( longer) or just go for it! Either way, they'll be watching forecasts closely before they go for it.
Are we looking at a Bad News Friday or a start of new beginnings?
GLA
FB group now saying it’s 16.00 on the 5th of May but can’t access port departures to confirm
Port documents now show her leaving at 16.00 on the 5th May - no reason given for delay
Also show she is leased and not (yet) bought as JW had indicated was the plan
Should have added next port is Santander
The delay is to allow a storm coming through to pass and there will be five stops to save fuel on the trip. Ship is running well with no problems….
