Since I about as close to being a knowledgeable person on mine engineering as I am to being signed up for Barcelona , can anyone throw some light on this?
If I were SB and wanted to get production going on Havieron asap, would it be possible to have two or more production mining methods running in tandem? One giving a faster route to the gold (and hence beating the death of Telfer). The other a slower project to provide access at currently deeper/less accessible points for the future. Could this be done safely and economically?
Answers on a napkin please.

I found the videos of Cadia to be a revelation in modern mining methods, with the automation and the central conrol room.
I am sure that NCM will work as fast as they can, but safety will be the most important factor, as you mentioned.
The different types of extraction would all involve setting charges and blasting, so work in tandem would have to be carefully co-ordinated. I was very impressed, though, with the use of automation in the most dangerous areas, as in setting charges and removing ore.
Thank you launder. I will go and check that out.
@mushroomkid,
I know I've linked to this a few times but this could literally be a blueprint for how they might tackle the Havieron ore-body. Oz Minerals have a similar system that they have started mining now using a sub-level caving system (top-down) which is what Sandeep seemed to be proposing with the high grade stoping operation that he discussed in the last presentation.
I think the Carrapateena ore-body starts about 500m below surface. This is a scoping study that they released last year which is investigating the potential to mine the bottom half of the ore-body using a block-cave system (bottom-up) to maximise the output from the mine so they can economically mine the lower grades.
The infrastructure for the block-cave can be developed while the high grade sub-level operation is carrying on. This is why Sandeep is hoping to be into production within 2 years of starting the exploration decline because they should be able to begin removing ore as soon as they get to the top of the ore-body.

Thanks Paddy. I will peruse that later today.
Mushroom, don’t you know where to put the decline on the allotment? :-)))))
"Mushroom, don’t you know where to put the decline on the allotment? :-)))))"
Truckerboy, sorry I didn't answer you sooner. I've been down Poundland to buy a new diamond-tipped spade. Then I will need to clear away a few carats first :)
Mushroom , no problem these things take time , let me know if you’re interested in a Jv .
How many holes have you dug so far ?
Still awaiting the first Paddysat. :-)))))
Now just you hold on with your JVs , 'Sandeep' Truckerboy! I'm not giving away 75% of my gold to you or anyone. In any case, I've heard your mining 'expertise' is to drive a truck over it.
And no, I haven't dug any holes as yet. I've been otherwise engaged in learning how to aerate the mine using brussel sprouts. However, I still have my 1986 Polaroid Instamatic camera to provide proof of the size of the allotments should I need to seek support from other investors.
Anyway, at the moment, I have quite sufficient potential funding by investing in an AIM company involved in gold exploration. Shares are 12.5 p at the moment but look certain to climb to 14.2 p within the week: Gigantic Gert Potatoes if you must know.
If you grow the potatoes in a potato tower, you can harvest them by block caving from the bottom.

Haha WF. Has anyone ever had success with one of those? You used to see them advertised in Exchange and Mart all the time.
You can only do it if you have the permission of the exchange & Martu people:-))))
MK/WF, I'd suggest a stoping operation from the top to get the best ones out first.
The tricky bit is deciding when to harvest your Brassicas? After the stopping operation?
