I know next to nothing about the author, but I thought it was a decent read

I will confess to having recently reduced my, somewhat overweight, position in Goodwin, but it's still one of my favourite companies

Good to see the variety of answers to this topic. I think that cconsult was wanting local info on this great Company. Are they recruting? Are they working overtime? Are the employees happy?
The great posts revealing the 'home' (birthplace)of Sir Stanley Matthews, Josiah Wedgewood, Robbie Williams and Arnold Bennett. Good on you Stokie and thanks for a delightful read.

Yankee99 - alternatively Lemmy get my coat.
cconsult - I followed Goodwins more closely in the mid-1960s when the share price was only about 50p. Since then I have only read about them in the local newspaper. When the Chairman retired his sons took over, the company very successfully expanded into new products, and his sons too have now retired. New large buildings have been constructed on neighbouring land in recent years. My impression is that the company is doing well, but you must not rely on an outsider's impression so DYOR. It is a pity that the quoted spread is so wide, presumably the shares are not traded very often. I only looked at this board because I saw that the results had been announced.
Yankee99 - and the birthplace of Robbie Williams, Phil "the Power" Taylor, author Arnold Bennett, actor Freddie Jones - the list could go on. Yes, we are an eclectic lot!
Yankee99 - and the birthplace of Sir Stanley Matthews, the world famous footballer!
Are any of our BB posters residents of Stoke-on-Trent? It would be great to get some local knowledge.

Goodwins currently undervalued. Resurgence in oil price means that Goodwins will start to benefit from increased order book as e&p confidence returns and margins improve. Easat Radar Systems, part of the Group, is also going great guns. Strong Buy in my book.

Looks like you are right! Glad I sold.
iii painting a pretty picture but taking a sensible step back from this carnage is the best thing investors can do right now. No bottom whilst oil prices drift lower... http://www.iii.co.uk/news-opinion/richard-beddard/goodwin%3A-short-term-uncertainty-hides-long-term-potential
Not the best news today, glossed over by the Chairman. Potentially good company , hurt by strong sterling and oil crash, wrong part of cycle, perhaps one to watch in future ?. Bargain at this price?

AMEC came up with disappointing results at half year and negative statements about oil and gas on 7 August. GDWN say 2015-2016 might be affected. Don't panic over price fall. 15-16 is a long way off. Europe will need more gas if Russia withdraws its sources. Buy at 3400. OLEUM.
