I find this share a very difficult one to judge, on paper it is a buy (albiet a slightly risky one) but the share price activity over the past 3-6 months doesn't reflect my optimism. Looking for a balanced view, especially as they are soon to announce results - what are peoples thoughts?
Someone is buying at a great price
How can a business that's in both the marine industry (that should be buoyant post COVID especially with manufacturing getting back up to speed and oil demand increasing) and renewables (with Wind which makes up most of UKs green energy capacity) do SO badly? You have to go back to 2009 to find the share price as low as it is now, mental
No fun when it goes down. I have been in this off and on for years. Have a fairly low average but there is a serious seller at present..
First went into this stock around £7.50 November 20 ! and traded well exiting at 1140 in April 21 with almost 9k to the better.
My mistake here was rebuying back again at the £8-£9 (only a small amount) level although cushioned by the £9k profit I held my own for many months and lowered the new holding average by trades.
The recovery from the low of sub £3 to £5+ set me right again with the new holding so there is usually an escape here.
These levels are too low, although with FSJ I expect the unexpected.
Profit warnings or surprise upside, ever a bid target.
Hence why I will remain invested and add at these levels. £4-£5 is fair value and it can zip up sharpish any given day.
Sometimes hard to buy or sell a decent quantity but still great fun stock to buy & hold as at some point this will be lower to add or higher to sell.
DYOR
A bargain as far as I can see.
Averaging down here at these levels seems a no brainer - has to be a good entry trade at least.
GL all.
Henry - It's an illiquid stock, tightly held, so I'd not read a lot into daily share price fluctuations. Preliminary results due 9 March. Company looks to be progressing nicely, hopefully we'll know more then.
I am now completely baffled - I only see buy trades this morning yet the share price sinks further???
It's been like that all week.
Strange the number of buys is more than the double of sells and yet the share price falls…??
soon be rerated upwards - worst behind it now.
Too potential high too.
Wiull fill the £5 gap this year on any decent news.
i.) James Fisher and Sons plc (LON:FSJ) Shares Could Be 47% Below Their Intrinsic Value Estimate. (Yahoo.)
ii.) James Fisher spies opportunity as UK needs 28 new SOVs. (Tradewinds.)
This latest disposal of the Swordfish vessel is actually better news than it first looks in my view. This is something they have been trying to sell for some time and sold at a good price. Debt looks better trading update in Jan should be much more interesting now - feeling a lot better on this stock now.
Intend to continue to hold.... This is now a recovery stck bigtime..
Retraction: almost one third of current market capitalisation!
Very substantial win! I mean this is almost the volume of the current market capitalisation of James Fisher!
Going up again. Is this dog finally going to have it's day??
I could say it was £22, three years ago. Don't wish to dampen your enthusiasm but its been bouncing off lows around 260p twice now in the last 6 months. Bottom drawer holding for me, just glad the company is still afloat as its foundation does a lot for its home town.
17% increase since 1st November. This business was over £11 March 2021. Strong recovery on the cards.
Interesting buy at 16.35pm today - given the size is an institutional buyer.
Looks like one of those shares that used to be stock market darlings and than get forgotten only to to rerate on good news.
However, I want to stress we need good news here and a sense that the ship is turning!
Bought and forgotten these.... Who knows but an update should clear the air.
At these levels something really really bad would have to happen - whereas just one good announcement will propel this back to at least 300p.
Agree this has sunk far too low, fingers crossed a re-rate is coming
Not confident enough to top up though!
Something is stirring. Anyway the share price at ca 250p was ridiculous. I topped up at ca 260p today.
