M10,
Thanks. The practicality of having dividend-paying shares as your long term holds hit me hard with a Vietnamese fund that I bought many years ago, which then super-tanked in line with the world economy. However I know Vietnam a bit (I worked there) and what the economy is capable of, so I held on rather than sold. Held on for 8 long years...... The fund came back well and I sold at a profit (actually, of course, I should have held further as it continued up a lot higher, but I just wanted out). After I sold the fund, I received a dividend for the first time (with an ex div date pre my sale). The point is, had I also received dividends for those 8 (....) years I would have received back at least 30-40% of my buy-in price as income. Would have made holding so less painful...... Now I try to ensure that even my LT precious metal shares (not generally a sector with income shares) are, where possible, dividend payers (eg. POLY, HGM, CAPD etc) as, with commodities you never know how long you will hold. Of course gold is up now, but has been dead for years.
Hopefully ENQ will eventually be correctly priced - just taking such a long time....
MP - We have the same time line for long then.
For me I’ve been in Enquest 3.5 years my average is 27.2p so I’m deep under water and have been since last September (like most PI’s), so I guess this is why the day to day commentary re SP has become more relevant (for me anyway) I will hold for another couple years, in hope, like most, that the sp significantly improves.
But it has got me thinking about going long again with such a high risk company/strategy, if the company does hit this famous number of 60p+ , let’s say in the nx 18-24 months, I will double my return in 5years, 20% per year, which sounds ok, but for the journey this has taken, not sure risk versus reward would have been worth it, Easier plays to be got with fair less exposure to risk me thinks for 20%pa.
Good luck with your continued trading success;)
M10,
3 to 5 years ++ is my definition of long - I have held RDS for well over 10 years (long holdings are much easier when they pay dividends.....). I bought ENQ years ago but left after I reached my price target. Now I just buy the dips and sell the bumps - not day trading but over a few weeks/months, as I was to see a profit of at least 20% on each transaction. Not a fortune but pays for the bus ride into town. Problem is the bumps have getting very low, no matter what the news or world events........
Hi Chilting
Yeah, I was going write the same:-)
The cashflow ahead of us will be massive if continue these oil prices, maybe 50% more then marketcap on 12 months.
It got to leave footprint in SP at some point.
Hope they hedging
Its certainly is the case that energy shares are a no go area - as are finding.
However, because they are so unpopular they are also vastly undervalued - as we are finding.
The thing is when investors realise just how undervalued they are greed will take over and they will rush in and buy.
The trouble is that we have no way of knowing when and even if that will happen - but I live in hope.
Agree KO, said this in post some weeks ago. Energy sector is a no-go-area
The Democrats have got a fair bit of trash that they can throw at him now if it sticks and they can find a decent candidate Trump will be history in 2020.
The problem is though that combat politics won't die now - there are plenty more candidates around just waiting for their chance of glory - including Eton Mess in the UK.
Sorry Andy.p I should have said Towards highest ever prices.
We look for divine inspiration MP we have all been here for years ie LTH, but the frustration of the sp being held down by who knows who makes you keep looking lol.
Bang on Kraken. I think trump is also trashing the American brand, the implications of that won’t be good as vacuums are always filled & usually by the worst elements.
Until Trump has gone who in their right mind would want to hold oil stocks ? who would want to trade oil ? No one and that's why its so volatile.
Trump has ruined world commodity markets, pushed gold prices to the highest ever, proves safety ground is the better option. upset every nation around world and now on the brink of war. What a shat head.
Agree MP,
Last time I looked SP in April it was the same.
Since then
Oil prices been good
Kraken improved 10-15k
Debt come down 150-200 mill + other things.
Will check SP again in spring
MP - What’s your definition of long?
Given that most people on this BB claim to be long term investors, I am not sure why so many follow the share price on a daily/ hourly basis. If you are a trader follow as often as you need, if you are a LTH fretting over daily price movement is pointless.
Small top up. Sorry guys that’s killed the sp for today...
Hitman, Kraken performance been confirmed now for almost half a year.
So I doubt a few minutes will help.
Something, someone still keeps this down
Give it a few minutes. Market has to confirm Kraken’s excellent performance , I expect to see 22p today
-3%. Is that a joke ?
