Is it an indication of manufacturers falling over themselves, or DXNS trying to manage and develop their own supplies. Would Pioneer really have approached DXNS and said, oh yeah guys, you know what, we're desperate to build TV's again but we only want to sell them in your shop'? More likely that DXNS approached them and asked if they could use the name. Are they even going to be made by Pioneer? I'm as behind this stock as anyone, and all this news is good ultimately, but I'm not completely bought in on this subject yet.
There will always be haters and people who don't like change. Anyways nice to see Dixons leading the march with exclusivity with Pioneer. Exciting times ahead. Am just curious to know how much they spent on producing their Advent tablet.
You fail to see the benefit to DSG. Like the new Dixons tablet, this is another indication that manufacturers are falling over themselves to see thier products sold through DSG stores. DSG can command good margins and terms as they are the only nationwide store that gives exposure to high tech products. I anticipate further margin inprovements over the peak months. We have allready heard on this BB that DSG has delivered profitability in H1 for first time in the last 6 years. Roll on Dec 17.
It was a long time ago that pioneer had a reasonable reputation - certainly in the hi-fi area. However they chose the path of lower cost and started producing abysmal products just before their name virtually disappeared. And rightly so. That Pioneer tuner I bought was one of the worst purchases I ever made - it destroyed my enjoyment listening to the radio - at least the suitcase I bought on holiday disintegrated before I set foot home. I had to endure that tuner for years. Sometimes newer is shockingly worse. I won't be glad to see Dixons selling under the pioneer brand and would be wary of purchasing that brand for something that should last a long time.
http://www.channelweb.co.uk/crn-uk/news/2306463/reports-dixons-gears-up-for-tablet-launch Reports: Dixons gears up for tablet launch High street giant gunning for rivals Tesco and Argos with £180 tablet, report claims By Sara Yirrell 12 Nov 2013 Retail giant Dixons is entering the Christmas tablet computer fray against Tesco and Argos with a more upmarket model than its rivals, according to reports. The website This is Money revealed the Advent Vega Tegra Note 7 is set to be sold in Currys and PC World stores from Friday. Priced at £180, according to the report, the Dixons product will be well below the £349 price of the iPad Mini, but more expensive than Tesco's £119 Hudl and Argos' £99 offering. According to the most recent IDC figures tablet shipments are expected to reach 227.4 million units this year, down from its previous forecast of 229.3 million, but still an impresive 57.7 per cent above 2012 shipments.
http://www.pocket-lint.com/news/125046-pioneer-will-re-enter-the-television-market-as-dixons-exclusive-40-46-and-55-inch-full-hd Pioneer will re-enter the television market as Dixons exclusive, 40-, 46- and 55-inch full HD After leaving the market in March 2010, former television maker Pioneer plans to come back. Pioneer will return to the European television market this year as a Dixons-exclusive brand, first reported ERT Online. Dixons has the exclusive rights to source, develop, and sell Pioneer televisions in selected European markets. The company re-launching televisions outside of Europe seems unlikely. The launch of Pioneer televisions will begin in December, with a roll-out to first begin in the Nordics and will follow into the UK market in the future. There will be three Full HD 1080 LED televisions available at launch: 40-inch, 46-inch, and 55-inch. Pioneer won't be coming back feature-less either, as 3D, smart tv, plenty of connectivity, and wireless features will all be made available. "Our decision to work with Dixons Retail was a natural one, as we highly value their clear customer focus, market leading positions and innovative approach to retailing," said Yoshihide Beppu, business planning director of Pioneer Home Electronics Corporation. "With their highly respectful approach to the premium positioning of the Pioneer brand, alongside our loyal customer base, we believe this is a winning combination and we’re excited to watch these new products transport customers in to a world of fun, entertainment and interactivity.” Pioneer shocked many when in 2008, it unveiled the Kuro - dubbed one of the best televisions around. It was able to produce amazing black levels and have the best colour of any television at the time. Pioneer didn't say anything about re-entering the Plasma market, and instead, will stick with LED for now.
What I'm not clear on here, is if Dixons are just using the name to launch a range of average TV's, that have more perceived cache than if they were branded Dixons or whatever other 'pretend' brand they could find. I guess as Pioneer are still alive and well they would be rather protective over the name and wouldn't allow that - which should bode well. Amongst the TV techno bunch, they're stuff was really well respected.
Not a bad move - it will enable them to source and sell Chinese produced gear with a premium price. Dixons did it years ago with Hitachi, essentially renting the name so this seems no different. Depends how hands-on Pioneer want to be overseeing the quality of the finished article - its their reputation at stake if their badge is stuck on unreliable crap.
Pioneer tv's used to be among the best and most stylish. Can't wait to see them. Nice move by Dixons retail.
I reckon so..Onwards towards the price that shall not be named.
Dixons Retail has announced an exclusive partnership with the electronics manufacturer Pioneer. Under the agreement the retailer will “source, develop, produce and sell” Pioneer TVs in Europe. The products will be the first new Pioneer TVs to enter the European market in five years, with the first sets due to go on sale in the Nordic region in December, with “an aspiration to extend into the UK market in the future”. “We are very excited to be working with Pioneer, a legendary brand in the world of technology, on its return to the European TV market,” commented Sebastian James, CEO of the Dixons Retail Group. “Today’s partnership reflects our reputation for excellence which we have worked hard to build during the last 40 years we have been operating in Hong Kong. This exclusive partnership is fantastic news, allowing us to offer the newest and latest TV technologies to our customers.” “We’re delighted to collaborate with Dixons Retail,” added Yoshihide Beppu, business planning director of Pioneer Home Electronics Corporation. “Our decision to work with Dixons Retail was a natural one, as we highly value their clear customer focus, market leading positions and innovative approach to retailing. "With their highly respectful approach to the premium positioning of the Pioneer brand, alongside our loyal customer base, we believe this is a winning combination and we’re excited to watch these new products transport customers in to a world of fun, entertainment and interactivity.” http://www.pcr-online.biz/news/read/dixons-retail-to-be-exclusive-pioneer-tv-partner/032411?

The Peak 2013 conference was held at the NEC this week. After attending the event, some of the main points for the investor: 1) DXNS will make a profit in H1 for the first time in 6 years THIS year 2) four significant areas of incremental turnover and profit in progress: range extension in kitchen, space growth in travel, know How for non Dixons products, mobile phones 3) Exceptional senior leadership demonstrated yet again from Katie and Seb. Sebs speech was inspirational. 4) Very upbeat and positive atmosphere throughout the day 5) The quality and experience of people working for the group demonstrated again Outside of this, sales & profit performance show nothing to be concerned about. All of which makes 47p a screaming buy.
