Closing price of 70p values CWC at 3 billion. TO thought to involve a premium of 700 million so a total of 3.7 billion which is a take out at 86p a share.
any early ideas of what the takeover price may be?
http://www.wsj.com/articles/malones-liberty-global-in-talks-to-buy-cable-wireless-communications-1445528255 In addition to this article there have been two price monitoring extensions on the stock today, although I must admit I do not know what the implications of these are. GLA
Denis O'Brien the awful man who owns it had to pull the IPO citing market conditions. More like investors balked at Digicel's £6bn debt and the fact OBrien would keep 94% of voting rights. He was also going to trouser millions for arranging the IPO! CWC winning screen rights for Premiership football in Carib is great for us and bad for him too.
what happened?
What IPO? :)
Keep an eye on Digicel's IPO on NYSE. Interesting observations on competitor position against CWC. Seem to acknowledge high competition risks allegedly through cwc!s better technology.
Somebody bought 8.5 million shares at 4.39pm today. A one off by an institution or a stake build? The timing makes me think the latter.
Michael, if there is a branch of HSBC around they allow you to manage your own portfolio on line it is called invest direct. I am sure other banks offer the same service. Good luck
Only thing I can suggest is that many buy/hold cwc for the dividend and we've just had the final so some people may be selling to reinvest elsewhere for short term gain.
We seem to be on something of a downtrend even in a falling market we are falling faster than most? Anyone any clue why?
I am a Barbadian and resident in Barbados. How do I sell my shares? My preference was to trade online but I was informed by Equiniti Shareview Dealing that I have to be resident in the UK and that since I am not that I would have to contact a local broker.
Bought another (small) tranche of shares today to bring my CWC holding up to the average for my ISA. Hoping for good news on the 21st and upward movement over the next year or two.
Well spotted! I am not selling up anyway as I always give a share a year or two to see how it goes unless disaster strikes (RSA!).
http://www.thedeal.com/content/tmt/cable-one-and-liberty-globals-lilac-join-frenzied-pay-tv-market.php Just need a little patience here.
I guess we may tread water in the run up to the Q1 results announcement on the 21st July? The price seems to be reluctant to meet the broker upgrades trumpeted recently and has quietly dropped back from the 70p or so May high.
Thanks Comsman for your comment re Mr Malone. I see that somebody bought 4M shares today or rather there were 2 ordinary purchase trades one of 2M and the other a little over 2M during the day but only reported on LSE after the UT at the end of the day. The SP is holding up well in the turmoil of the markets caused by Greece even if Greece and Europe have nothing to do with CWC except as the likely users of offshore islands with consequential internet/telephone traffic. Somebody is buying in a serious fashion so probably not the time to be selling! Tempting to take a profit but surely there must be more to go for. Hope so!!!
I'm holding mine. Although the share price is near its 52 week high so you can justify selling, this share gives good dividends of 3.5% and might be a takeover target in about a year. If you want the money to invest elsewhere just check that you can get >4%
I have inherited some CWC shares, no idea about them and wondering if I should just liquidate them unless anyone has any knowledge why I shouldn't in the short-medium term please? I'm not making any profit or loss on these so will be an easy decision unless there is reason not to....
Barlew, think you are spot on with the Libert comments. Last month John Malone announced that Liberty Global was to be 'split' into two operations by introducing a 'tracking stock' specifically for its Caribbean and Latin America operations. He also put one of his best lieutenants in charge of this new entitiy (LiLac) with a brief to grow the operations. So far LiLac (Liberty Latin America and Caribbean) only has operations in two countries (Puerto Rico and Chile) and we all know how John Malone grows his comapnies, by aquisitions! GL
Let's hope that the recent fall in the SP has now been halted. Perhaps somebody shorting to buy in cheap. I topped up at 65.40 and then complained when SP went lower but now looking distinctly better. Always a chance of Liberty / John Malone buying a larger stake or more. On the other hand as has been said he is a skilled operator and unlikely to be giving anything away. Nevertheless more backing should strengthen the share price and who knows whether one of the big US companies such as AT&T may be interested which would not amuse Phil Bentley but never mind he has done well so far. By hte way his academic credentials are most impressive.
Very interesting. It is never easy to figure out what has gone on with these late trades. They are supposed to be tightly regulated and reporting can only be delayed until market close if to do so during trading hours would destabilise the market in that share.
Hello Grayling, no it was not a UT, that took place about twenty minutes previous. It was an O, ordinary trade. Of course, for someone to buy 15 million shares someone else had to sell them so it's hard to say when you see a big purchase if it's a good or bad reflection on the company.
