Overnight news ,masaya and matagalpa being attacked by police ,and paramilitaries.and reports that parts of the army are involved out of uniform.I have been reading that ortega is stalling with talks buying time and it seems very much like that.there appears to be a large assault underway.esteli also been taken under control. Mc comments may come back to haunt him .There is no guarantee ortega will leave.protestors however many there are are no match for the heavily armed forces ,the danger is that the opposition will end up armed with more than homemade mortars.who knows where this is heading.god help them it is ugly. Anyones guess with the permits and pc.It could get railroaded through with the help of police maybe ! personally I have never taken any notice of peoples time scales you just have to sit and wait.if you believe peoples forcasts we should have been sold years ago.
Agreed, todays price means very little in the scope of what's happening and what may yet unfold. Even if the current pro-mining government remain, they have bigger concerns than awarding Condor it's long awaited permits.. If the government is topped either by the people or by a military coup, the future looks even less certain.
Following things on fb,there is a major offensive going on right now.barricades coming down and some horrible repression. It is going to be a mess. The danger is like in so many places the next step is armed resistance to the authorities and militias strong arm tactics.I have seen so many videos and live feeds that make the heart heavy.I fear he will put down the protests but nicaragua will become a pariah state and usa will bring power to bear.Irrespective of the claims of cia involvement the the serious arms are in the hands of the police and paramilitary vigilantes.there are reports that some of the army eg snipers are involved too .
When you see heavily armed groups of police and vigilantes in massive convoys it is hard to see how any transition is going to happen.ortega has madura to look to .and of course there is support for ortega too.
I was surprised to see comments attributed to mc about the regime being over as It appears premature to me.
It is a horrific situation ,more killed in the last 2 months than in palestine I believe.
Personally seems a bit crass worrying about permits in the circumstances but I do only have a modest holding now.
In all seriousness, watching the news 24/7 no matter where you are is going to be depressing. Take a break. Set stop losses/buy orders if you like. Come back in a few months. Obsessing over day-to-day news is as mentally unhealthy as obsessing over the day-to-day share price.
Seingred - since you only have a modest holding now and are clearly very worried about the situation in Nic, why are you hanging around. If I was worrying about it and getting as obsessed as you are I would dump my remaining holding (I think you think the sp has further to fall) and move on. I don't understand why you are perpetually bombarding this bb with the latest news you've found and your assessment of the situation.
I am not worried about my modest investment but to honest it is in an account that I cannot access presently any how.
If my posts are so annoying you and anyone else can filter.what have you posted in the last 2 months of any use to anyone.2 years of sniping at mc also,so I would imagine I am doing mc a favour.links can be ignored if you have no interest. However the only research currently is the situation on the ground. To me it seems pretty normal to try and find out as much as possible about what is happening to make an informed investment decision ,whether that be buying or selling.
I will decide when I will or will not post on a public forum and will not be put off by someone who has misread the situation and probably heavily under water.I don't think a sanitised board will benefit any one.
And yes I do think that the sp may have further to fall.
Give it a rest Seingred, flooding the board with anti-government propaganda is not a contribution. Anyone with half a brain can see that these people are not "protesters", they are organised, funded and they are attempting to seize power from the government. Setting up roadblocks, violently suppressing commerce and threatening locals hardly classifies as harmless protests. Ortega is no saint, but do you really expect him to let these people seize power without a fight, especially when he still has plenty of support from the people? Either you have an agenda or you are extremely naive.
And yet the sp stubbornly refuses to drop below 30p, no thanks to your efforts, and none of our major shareholders have sold. Clearly the market disagrees with your outlook...
nero120 the share price is now the lowest it's been in more than 2 years and most here agree the situation will get worse before it gets better. There is no reason to sell of course if you think this will all blow over in a couple of month. I don't hold any shares but I know this is an attractive price historically speaking so if the government reestablishes control I'll buy in. At the moment it feels to me like Ortega is heading the way of Zuma, only his entire government may fall and not by democratic process either. I won't be surprised to see a military coup or military backed move against the government. Difficult to say if Condor will suffer as a result but permits aren't coming any time soon.
I think maybe yoU dont pocess half a brain then.have you viewed any of the hundreds of videos that show police ,snipers together with heavily armed civillians.or any of the live broadcasts from protests.I believe you are the vaive one.Have you viewed any videos of the survivors of the family burnt to death recently.or the recently murdered 14 month old. All of who quite clearly blame the police.I expect that protestors be allowed to protest without being murdered as is allowed for in their constitution.I trust the reports and amnesty international more than some protective numpty on a bb.
I am not stupid enough to think my posts will affect the share price,if you do good luck for your investing.
What have you been reading Nero? Your assessment of the situation in Nicaragua is embarrassingly inaccurate. You need to speak to some Nicaraguans before writing such garbage. The only part of your post that was accurate is that they are organised.
Which part bezzell? And which Nicaraguans should i speak to, the ones that support Ortega or the ones that oppose him? Obviously you have a bias, you want Ortega gone. I want the country stable again where pepper can live in peace and conduct business normally. Does that mean Ortega wins or the opposition does? That is very difficult to tell, but go all a Libyan whether they would go back to living under Gaddafi of they had a choice, or an Iraqi to live under Saddam. I'm not naive enough to think that calling for the end of a dictatorship works out well for the people, so I'm skeptical as we all should be.
So you dont believe that the end of Hitler, mussolini, stalin, ceausescu etc was good for the people.interesting .agreed Iraq and libya has been a disaster and I am not a fan of usa foreign policy.
Both the usa and communist powers like to deal with autocrats as they are much easier to deal with in the longterm.
Of course you couldn't say that the kurds were better off under saddam.and so it is in nicaragua. There is a very complicated set of problems.indiginous rights are trampled on along with farmers as in the canal project that was bulldosed through, the creole people have a hard time and anyone who isn't part of the gvnt structure.
Are you naive enough to think that if as appears to be happening that very serious oppression puts down the protests that nicaragua will go back to being the same as before.however this plays out it will take a long time to settle down.as you say it is hard to know which side will produce a stable nicaragua.I suspect neither.nicaragua will be more isolated if ortega prevails.
The usa is likely to become involved at some point.presently the gvnt and militias have most of the arms but the next possible phase is arms coming in for the other side.
It is quite possible that if the original protest about reforms had gone peaceably and the reforms were dropped as they were this situation may well have been avoided. It is not reasonable to shoot people in the throat when protesting.the gvnt still blames the opposition for killings that are indisputably their responsibility.
As regards cnr ,that is anyones guess and I wouldn' t be rash enough to predict where cnr stands.mc is doing all he can for sure.Do you disagree with his reading of the situation?
Seingred what you need to understand is this board is for investors, it is not political. I have no doubt that we all want the violence to end and for the people of Nicaragua to once again be able to live in peace and conduct their affairs as normal. Beyond that, it's not my place to say what is best for the people of Nicaragua, that is for them to decide, they are a sovereign nation.
I personally am sceptical and extremely weary of westerners who cry out for governments to be overthrown and are then nowhere to be seen when the inevitably chaos destroys a once functioning society and brings upon it's people death, misery and in the case of Libyans, slavery. You have clearly decided that you want Ortega to go, as has Bezzell, and that's your opinion, but personally (and with respect) I do not think your political opinion in this matter is relevant to this board.
You mention the original protest about reforms and if it had gone peaceably then this situation could have been avoided? Read this Reuters article from April:
https://www.reuters.com/article/us-nicaragua-protests/nicaraguan-welfare-changes-that-sparked-protests-canceled-president-idUSKBN1HT0V3
It states that "Ortega has been on the defensive since demonstrations began in much of the country on Wednesday against the plan to increase worker contributions to social security and to lower pensions. Ensuing unrest killed at least eight people and sparked looting and panic buying, but protests in Managua died down considerably after Ortega’s announcement, according to Reuters witnesses. At least one protest march was planned for Monday."
So we have a situation where looting and lawlessness is occurring (as a response to government policy, not state sanctioned violence), and people are unfortunately killed when the government steps in, which then escalates the situation and we are where we are now. Who's fault is it? Well from here it looks like both sides have a part to play. Was Ortega too heavy handed trying to stop the looting? Were the "protesters" trying to incite any and all chaos and violence they could to try and bring down the government? Honestly I don't know but in all things the truth is usually somewhere in the middle. The important thing is that negotiations end the violence and restore peace.
As for MC, I'm sure that as he is an experienced and very capable CEO, he is not political and just wants the situation to clam down and peace to return. He will then deal with whomsoever runs the government at that point, banking on the fact that they will need investment and the continuity of one of Nic's biggest industries to cement their rule and enable the country to return to normal. And in the event Ortega wins, I very much doubt he personally cares, or even knows that MC once wrote in an email that it looks like Ortega's regime is ending, he is not being personal he is being pragmatic.
i understand well that this bb is for investors.I made a judgement to sell specifically because of the start of demonstrations.the political situation is the main issue regarding cnr in my opinion.therefore it is important to research the situation you are invested in.only a fool wouldnt.I may re buy here yet but I want to have a clear view of the situation. It seems normal to me.I have posted what most free media and the human rights groups report.
If you want to dismiss amnesty international thats up to you.
In regard to the link you posted,I am struggling to see how you reach your conclussions from it.I note you have joined two seperate paragraphs which gives a different slant.it does not lay the blame for rioting on protestors.
It does however say
"The police crackdown on demonstrations and curbs on some media in the past few days have fueled broader criticism of ortega who has tightened his hold on the countries institutions since he took office"
And."the pope, the us gvnt, business leaders all urged ortega to stop the violence"
Also."local media said a reporter was shot and killed during a live broadcast graphic footage spreading on social media"
Also25 deaths, mostly from firearms and rubber bullets logged by cenidh.
from social media, barricades coming down gradually and yes they certainly arnt universally supported but have a lot of support.obviously it makes life difficult for many.there are obviously criminal elements that most likely are working for themselves.but unequivocably there are large squads of heavily armed vigilantes alonside police and riot police and suspected army snipers carrying out very vicious reprisals currently.
We each believe what we believe and time will tell .
Nero, you are horrendously badly informed. The looting was orchestrated and carried out under Ortegas orders, even going to the point where the police participated and aided the paramilitary Juventud Sandinista, at the very least just turning a blind eye. In fact the anti-ortega protesters and general public protected the supermarkets, because they knew what was happening and would get the blame for it. It was retribution for COSEP openly calling for Ortega to resign.
No I don't have a bias view, I have an informed view. I speak to Nicaraguans everyday. When you ask which nicaraguans you should speak to, ortega opponents or supporters, I don't think you realise how few (civilian) supporters he has now. He is only in power because of the army and police. If it were don't to popular will, he'd be a goner.
Two months into this conflict, the protesters are still barricading themselves in UNARMED facing military grade firepower. So, you do you think is at fault?
Believe me, the best thing for CNR would be for a rapid Ortega exit. Things are not going back to how it was before, because Ortega is hated by a very large percentage of the populace, whether you want to accept that or not. He's also lost the backing of Cosep, the Church etc which he had before. If he chooses to fight on, the barricades will continue, the economy will slide further which is exactly the opposite of what we need as a company invested in Nicaragua!
There are photos and videos of the looting all over facebook: https://www.facebook.com/gochitalibertaria1/videos/1709462322479323/
