"You are saying you want to see people in need starve"
Come on Aus, I have not said the above.
Hi Nige, I’m not defending anything. It’s you that has something to defend.
You are saying you want to see people in need starve, because you’ve seen some woman leave a food bank in a BMW, but you don’t know if she was picking up, distributing to someone, whether it was her car or whether it even matters, but let people starve anyway.
Does that about cover your analysis for this judgement you’re openly sharing?
No I don't know the full fact, just like you don't, yet you will defend it all the same. If I was in need of food from a food bank I would not turn up driving a car. This gives off the wrong impression IMO, but if you want to defend this Aus go ahead. End of conversation from myself.
The food bank is home. It’s a disgrace that we need them, but they are at home.
When I ask you to tell me if it’s someone else’s car, whether she’s picking up food for someone else etc etc etc
What I’m really saying to you is you’re coming up with some really toxic opinions & judgements about a person or situation you couldn’t possible know anything about….
For a start, in most cases people need to be referred to a food bank.
"For the one person you’ve seen driving away from a food bank in a BMW, you do understand these things are regularly manipulated? Did you manage to check if was her bosses car or borrowed from someone else? Or stolen ? (Might have been mine)"
Aus, no it would be almost impossible for myself to check on such things. She managed to turn up in a car, she didn't walk there or catch a bus, she managed to drive away no problem. She must have felt embarrassed being filmed getting in to a car.
We have to learn in this country that we cannot take on the worlds problems, we have enough of our own. This is what I mean when I say charity begins at home.
Nige, helping to fund the war in Ukraine isnt charity, it is national interest & national security
For the one person you’ve seen driving away from a food bank in a BMW, you do understand these things are regularly manipulated? Did you manage to check if was her bosses car or borrowed from someone else? Or stolen ? (Might have been mine)
Even if she was playing the system, would you really want to see people who really need it starve so you can “get “ the one you think is undeserving
Do you like Mo Farah? Lovely chap. With a Home Secretary thinking like you, he would have had all his potential wasted by being shipped out to Rowanda.
It’s criminal some horrid people take advantage, but it’s an absolute travesty to not help those who deserve it or Need & it’s immoral to deny this help to the majority just to “get at “ the vast minority.
"Well the VM/02 story did not impact on the price for long, well done for all who bought into BT on that lovely dip. As the old saying goes, it’s the pennies not the pounds, thanks VM/02"
Still some way to go, to match Thursday's close unfortunatly. The level of the drop makes no sense to me,especially since it was based on nothing more than heresay.
Well the VM/02 story did not impact on the price for long, well done for all who bought into BT on that lovely dip. As the old saying goes, it’s the pennies not the pounds, thanks VM/02…
Don't get me wrong I sympathies strongly with Ukraine and it's people, what's happened to Ukraine is terrible.
"Like currently £2.3 billion towards the Ukraine war, while our own people are starving. Charity should begin at home."
Ukraine is one of the few foreign aid packages I agree with. In my opinion, there's are massive strategic and moral reasons to give Ukraine any armaments/weapons they need. You can't just steal your neighbours land because you think you can beat him up easily. Russia taking over Ukraine would destabilish all the previously held soviet Eastern Bloc countries. How long before they started separatist movements in other countries bordering Ukraine?
Before the pandemic I was watching the national news on tv, a woman was comming out of the food bank loaded up, she had a brief word with the news repoter before jumping in to her BMW car, so please don't tell me that this isn't happening. No doub't there will be many unfortunate geniune people that have to rely on food banks, these people I feel sorry for, but I feel that some people are taking advantage of this situation. Maybe we should stop giving away our tax payers money to foreign countries. Like currently £2.3 billion towards the Ukraine war, while our own people are starving. Charity should begin at home.
"The Rumours of Talk Talk take over by Virgin is very bad news for BT. Virgin have already proved (with Vodafone hosting VIrgin Mobile) they are prepared to “buy out” contractual obligations, in this case with Openreach."
Aus, I remember from previous threads you're a big fan of VM, now VMO2. Your posts suggest VMO2 will take over Talk Talk and simply migrate all the customers over to their cable/fibre network, it isn't that simple. How many of the FTTC/FTTP Talk Talk customers are in areas covered by VMO2? A good percentage wont be, and even for the ones in the Franchise areas, migrating them over requires VMO2 to attend and do the relevant groundwork. Many customers may not want to go with VMO2, choosing instead to go with a different ISP.
Where are VMO2 getting the £3 Billion from? Liberty and Telefonica are looking for other financial partners, to finance Fibre rollout, would they want to stump up £3 Billion for a customer base that may choose a different ISP at the drop of a hat? Also consider the fact that VMO2 started out with £18 Billion in debt, and the cost of their Fibre rollout plans will likely be on a par with BT's.
I can think of loads of reasons why VMO2 wouldn't be interested in Talk Talk. Remember when I said there was no substance behind the rumours of a Sky/VMO2 partnership? Still haven't heard anything on that one, have you? I view this recent news in the same light, it makes a good story, but I don't see it happening, and even if it did, I don't see it making much difference to BT/Openreach. Jansen's already stated that they'll compete more heavily on price, should business start drifting away. It isn't completely beyond the realms of possibility , but as I stated in an earlier thread, I'll believe it when I see it.
Yep I agree.
I’ve always supported the right side of politics, (not recently ) have been very fortunate & always happy to pay a large tax bill, on the understanding this money is used wisely, helps less fortunate & keeps me safe.
Although I can see this money isn’t used sensibly any more, I still recognise it needs to be paid.
The pendulum has swung too far to the right, country needs to see a huge change in direction, from a selfish point of view, without a reset, no one’s living standard or security is safe. Desperation creates desperate people, this makes for bad politics and even more dangerous streets.
Totally agree HEAVY and if they keep going down this path at some point the people will say enough is enough and it will get nasty. Unfortunately like what’s happening in multiple countries across the world right now I can see major civil unrest happening in the not too distant future.
Union meeting rep says we've negotiated with the management a 20% increase in wages and an 8 hour working week which will be worked on a Friday. A voice from the back shouts out "what every Friday!!??"
The evils of Non Dom status. Zero hours contracts. Massive pat rises for CEO's. Fire and rehire will cause massive disruption to our society. This has got to stop. Total greed has no place.
So the £1000 bonus after tax and national insurance etc worked out about £700 which didn’t increase their wage and wasn’t pensionable so nice as it was it didn’t go that far probably just enough to pay for 3 months energy bills. I’m not sure they got free shares last year but I’ll take your word for it but they definitely didn’t get them this year as mr Jansen took most of those giving himself 1.5 mil!
Nigeco you need to get in the real world! Saying people turning up to food banks in their bmw get a grip!! But if thinking that makes you feel better then you lie to yourself and believe that bs! Due to the central bankers inflation has gone crazy and not just the really poor are struggling but the workers who keep this country running are now unable to pay for basics. If you really think most people are thriftlessly spending right now your deluded normal people are really struggling just to get by.
The workers that kept the nations broadband on throughout the pandemic so lots of others could work from home just want a fair pay rise inline with inflation, and I don’t think that’s too much to ask for!
But your too worried about your investments to see that!!!
Nige, that’s straight out of the daily mail, of course it’s nonsense.
Food banks are generally accessed by desperate people, the kind of desperation that shouldn’t exist in this country, the need for food banks is a disgrace, a point of shame for us all, not an argument against decency or compassion.
"although not a payrise last year they did get £1000 bonus, plus £500 in free shares."
So £6,000 in two years? What more do they want? Jam on it.
"I bet most workers that are using the food banks bc their wages are so poor"
Maybe try to live within your means would help massively. Learn to cut your cloth accordingly. It must be hard turning up at the food bank in a BMW.
@jimtom, although not a payrise last year they did get £1000 bonus, plus £500 in free shares.
Hi Nige, yes Vodafone entering the fray (if it is one) for TT would be very good news.
I would like to see it happen & for Vodafone to get them. It does feel like Vodafone are liking their dept wounds right now, I know they are linked to a merger with 3, but that seems like a much easier, cheaper ( to integrate) & of course delivers potential for cost saving. Buying TT might not fit that description?
I really think VOD buying Libery Global assets in Europe hurt them in the short term
you could always have a bidding war with the aim of making the winner pay over the odds
" Maybe VOD will also make a bid for TT? "
I dare say all of them have taken a look a TT and when/if anything gets serious then counter bids may indeed pop up
Vodafone U.K. and Three UK have been looking at a possible merger.. but the regulators would check that one out , in view of then creating the new mobile leader in the market with a lot of 5G spectrum ....
