I always have to have a wry smile when folk complain about the Railways and their nationisation etc
The fact is they are already nationalised - by the German government, Dutch Government and I think there may be a couple of other European nations (the French) owning OUR railways whilst their own is well and truly under government control. Hence no or little investment, very poor service whilst the cash is milked out of the British consumers especially commuters (who have very little option).
So I'm very happy that some peps are impressed how national states run their own railways just a pity that the Poories closed all the branch lines and ran down the services before 'privatisation' i.e. sell off to the Europeans.
This guy is a breath of fresh air. Kurt should get in touch with him...
Blame Thatcher ,yet another laughable attempt to blame the dead for todays problems. Thatch wouldnt have been ignored by any of the EU gatherings for sure. BEM should have been using the swedish media to promote the case for a mine , stressing environmental credentials ,the legal case and political stalling. By now we should be seeing a clamour for a decision instead of pleading for attention.
Interesting point Dornod. Certainly stirred you from your slumber Aug. I like the idea of our own Government firing a few shots across to the Swedes, but not with the big blond lurch anywhere near the scene. Earth would be in danger. Lol. Atb.
A new "all systems go" Government would make me cry with joy, if it means our application will then be dealt with promptly. Wishful thinking though? I don't know Sooz, but we can never say never. There is at least some form of change afoot, which may be good for us, even though none of this political stuff should really have affected or be affecting the application process in any way. Process. Lol. Nighty night. x
Trains are on time everywhere in western Europe, except UK. Farcical. Blame Thatcher for the current predicament.
Please no! If the psychopath was allowed anywhere near this, we’d get shafted. A transitional period until 2050 minimum, and we wouldn’t be allowed to negotiate a trade deal until the Sami had decided that enough progress had been made. Madness? Apparently not! atb
Could Kurt not take this dreadful situation to our government to establish whether or not they could take it up with the Swedish government. Surely both our countries invite foreign investment and therefore have a moral if not legal obligation to ensure any such investment is given every opportunity to establish itself and where a water tight business study is presented a decision made within a reasonable time frame. If the boot were on the other foot I could not see a Swedish company tolerating a Beowulf situation they would have referred the matter to their government many years ago requesting they make representation to our government I am sure.

Agree with you Eric, but I'm hoping Big Stef can make a government that is much stronger than the one he has lead for the last four years, an all systems go one, is that wishful thinking.
Was always a good place to swagger...especially in your Hugo Boss uniform. And, Italy, the trains were always on time there.
Quite agree ibjj and I can report a similar picture of joy and pleasantness in the 2 major cities of North East Spain, Barcelona & Girona, where public transport and the populace are generally very good news. Ditto in Sweden, where trains worked faultlessly and spotlessly, despite there being 6 feet of snow on the ground, unlike the UK where 2 snowflakes can bring the whole of Southern England to a halt.
One duz wonder, however, why the UK infrastructure is so bad, despite being in the EEC since 1973 and latterly paying-in approx. £165m (net) per week into the coffers in Brussels. (£8.6bn net p.a.). Is it that we are subsidising the rest of Europe and are not very good at promoting our own spending needs, through corrupt, inept and inefficient politicians , or is it that we are simply being ripped off by the EU, who , also wish to steal our Financial Services Industry from the City of London and transfer it to Frankfurt & Paris ? You decide.
In the meantime, the Swedes appear to be excellent at organising trains and being very nice to foreigners, but sadly, not at handing out Mining Exploitation licences, unless, of course, they are to Swedish companies..........
IMHO. DYOR. GLA.
Sounds like a good trip. I went to Munich in 1991. Was a bit apprehensive, but the Germans were, as you say, open and friendly. Also a great place to explore. No problems with the railway system there either. You should try a trip from Newquay to Blackpool on our rail network. You'll weep a million tears. Especially if you've bought a return ticket. Lol.
It will be a different set-up if big Stef can manage to form a Government, but we don't know if, with him involved again, things will change for the better for us. Tricky thing to know for sure, the after-effects of this election. That's why it isn't really appropriate now for Kurt to wait too much longer before going for the jugular. In my opinion. We can't know how long the political jockeying will take, or even whether there'll be the need yet for another election. Meanwhile, our Company's developmental life cycle is continually on hold on our flagship project, and really, I believe the ongoing situation of years of Swedish water treading is very much slowly killing us off. The last placing at a price lower than that of the previous year is proof enough. I don't therefore feel that this application saga can be allowed to enter 2019, without us seeing any further progress on it, preferably with a definite date for a Government decision. The current sitting Government is still to be held accountable for where we find ourselves, so Kurt must very soon take appropriate action to protect our interests. How many months ago were the final comments on Kallak submitted? Exactly. Best wishes all.
Good isn't she, Angela? Glad you had an enjoyable trip..travelling on trains and planes is a nightmare, always avoid it whenever I can. .Our political story is getting very interesting, I'm enjoying it immensely, especially now that the lion is back as I predicted (I think) he would be. Now all we have to do is wait and see and we're pretty good at that, well some more than others. :-)
Just returned. Berlin is a mightily impressive city. There is a real swagger about it. The evidence of investment in and the importance of all the arts is palpable.
Spoke with many Berliners, who were all kind, courteous, keen to engage, and even had outstanding banter, despite the german’s reputation. The most striking trait amongst the young employed in bars, restaurants and our hotel, is how
Intelligent and open they are. In this country, young people tend to be the surly, indifferent and unhelpful types.
They are interested in how the EU will function post Brexit, but there is none of the hand wringing and fear mongering we have here.
“ politicians live their lives and we live ours “ said one young guy in a bar, with a smile and a shrug. Wish there was more of that here.
Here’s something which may or may not surprise you.
Our 30 mile journeys from home to Manchester airport by train and back were both horrific.
The outward train got stuck at Stalybridge for 20 minutes only to be diverted to Manchester Victoria, where it terminated. 2 more trains were required to get us to the airport, one hour late. All 3 trains were dirty one only one had a functioning toilet.
The return was no better. The train from the airport was cancelled. Had to wait for a Cleethorpes train and once again change at Piccadilly. Trans pennine express train ( 3 coaches only ) packed, filthy, no toilet and intercom bust.
The two trips cost a total of £64.40 for the two of us.
In contrast, the train from Berlin Schonefeld airport took 35 minutes to cover the 30 miles in supreme, smooth, punctual comfort. On board communication, in German and English was superb, and the ticket cost £3 each way.
No wonder the EU look down their noses at us.
We had a better rail system here 50 years ago.
BTW, during the interval at the Procol Harum gig, the lads on the mixing desk played a selection of 60s English rock songs, but slipped in the 1966 official World Cup willy song. Good work. Apologies to younger readers.
Meanwhile in Sweden zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz
Kurt really has to earn his spurs now. Wait and see hasn’t been good enough for some time now.
ATB.
True....but the situation is different this time and I'm hoping for something a lot better...an alchemy that Mr Lofven might just be able to conjure up. Interesting times.
Do not under estimate the damage a few MP can do in a parliament where the governing party has no overall majority or a very small one. There are many examples of this - one of the most recent is the DUP in the British Parliament, Italy is current running a very tight path with it's two strange bedfellows approach. The most outlandish example of what a few like minded, motivated extremists can do is Germany in the 1930's - their leader knew he only needed about 25% to gain full control.
They can run around as much as they like, Bobtree, they'll still have only 16 seats; compared with C and L's combined total of 51 seats, the most likely candidates to join the Social Democrats.
PS No need to shout.
Absolutely right Suzy, let the Greens get some influence and wait another four years ERR NOT!
The decisions on who will have power is being decided NOW! The Greens know that and you can guarantee they are running around at the moment trying to ensure THEIR voice is heard.
A new election would likely deliver a similar result. They just need to put party politics aside and come to an agreement. The issue is, they can hardly ignore the SD because they will have a large say on parliamentary matters whether in government or not. Their votes will always be needed...
I remember seeing a lot of posts about the Pajala development. They were given the go ahead to get that project moving. That decision was made whilst there was no government in place so why do we have to wait for the new government to be installed.
My patience has completely expired and I've had my fingers hovering over the sell button for a while now as this really getting on my nerves now. I think it might be time for me to bail out sometime soon if there is no action. I'm well into the latter part of my life and it's time to start spending our money having some fun.
Best wishes to all
On the black side, new elections might have to be called, never happened in Sweden before, and that could be three months + and there's no guarantee the situation will be as unresolved as it is at the moment.
Or a tiger by the tail. :-)
