And Doggy is back ??
MM is Market Maker
Like minstrels but a bit chewy
White gates it’s Market Maker
market maker -google it
What is MM????
Well done Mapp,
Yes it can be hard to manage the swings of any stock. Right now so far we have consolidated behind every rise which has meant a reasonably steady ride!
But as we get higher up the mountain, buckle in lol. As we have all been there before.
Gl all
Also, for the book -
The Naked Trader 5th Edition: How anyone can make money trading shares https://www. amazon.co.uk/dp/B07XP8KB84/ref=cm_sw_r_em_apa_i_FaqZEbXM80JN7
Hopefully the link works. Remove the space before Amazon
Didn't know that mate. Am sure the deep fried battered Mars Bar has superseded the humble shortbread now though.
Lucy - look back for posts from Friday by C3Po (it is spelled different....) but he quotes L2 data that includes all the MM names.
Haha Jessell, calm doon laddie!!
Another good book explaining MM is Volume price analysis (VPA) - that's how I found this share. Saw it at 52wk high on 8th April and volumes indicated a buy. Never looked back. A bit of luck tbh. Was out picking white heather all day though ;-)
MMs know every trick of the trade to get what they want . Their clients want to get as many
shares as possible at bargain price. Tree shakes come in all sizes and traders join the party
and often get it wrong and turn from Smarties into Paupers when they show their anger on Boards.
In defence of MM’s, as “it says on the tin” they make the market, and without them there would be little or no liquidity, i.e. it would be very hard to get hold of Avacta shares, and the buy/sell spread would be enormous. But where they could just make money from the spread, they also like to provoke inexperienced traders into buying or selling at the wrong prices by moving their bid/offer prices up and down unpredictably. They are very good at this. They have more information than we do. They are typically institutions with large holdings in the share, like FinnCap. When someone was posting level 2 data (current bid/ask prices from all the MM’s - you pay a provider extra to get this) last week, it was interesting to see more MM’s on Avacta at the end of the week than the start (c.8 vs 5?). Could mean a feeding frenzy with the high volume of trades, and/or more institutions building their own position in a quality company.
The World Health Organization has said it will temporarily drop hydroxychloroquine — the malaria drug Donald Trump said he is taking as a precaution — from its global study into experimental coronavirus treatments after safety concerns.
Hi Jessell, just think of inventor of TV, telephone, radio, steam engine to name but a few. Hope this helps.
P.S - the radio guy sounded more Italian tbh.
A few buyers moving back in on the possibility of a 1pm RNS , then US buyers may move in this afternoon providing further support. It would be good if it can close above £2 today
google is your friend - plenty of explanations of MMs
i can't find the book you mention. any more info? thx
Or are they the modern equivalent of jobbers?
Timing. Daily Mail started the ball rolling for us paupers who
like a bargain. Previously I had lost on AIM and had reached pauper
status. Now my account looks good again having found a treasure on
AIM. Corona forced me to live in isolation with time to search for
a very special share. AVCT soon everywhere.
Yes I've read The Naked Trader and am re-reading it. I am certainly inexperienced but I hope I'm learning and so far so good as far as profits are concerned. But no matter where I look, I cannot find WHO these mysterious mms are. I'm aware that they are manipulative, but who are they? Funds managers?
In case anybody hasn't replied. The MMs are the Market Makers and their job is to rob you blind and they are very good at it. They decide the sp price and have all sorts of dirty tricks to make you part with your money. One of the worst is called a tree shake. That is where they drop the sp by about 10% to 15% to scare people into selling and to trigger stop losses thereby grabbing shares at a low price. Whenever you see an sp change value, you must ask yourself why are the MMs doing that? With all due respect, before you dabble in the stock market, you must be more clued up as to how it works and what the pitfalls are otherwise you will lose money, and I am speaking from experience. A really useful book to read is (and i can't name it directly) is by a trader with the same name a famous Scotsman and the title is (sic) a dealer without clothes on.
GL.
MrSpec, I think you are correct indeed. We have all been affimered avacted on this one.
Better know as Mickey Mouses and what they do is take your money
Mr. Speculator, I closed the computer as soon as I was in danger and when
I came back I felt safe again. I have managed to hold on and if I had to pay now for
what I paid then I would have been in danger to miss the train. The modest investment
looks good and is getting better. Lucky us investors.
