Hello justinterested15
There is always exceptions to the rule, hopefully this will be one of them. Good Luck All.
Shadowless, I think the worm has turned or is turning.
The Russian media is starting to rebel. I underhand the poorer people doing what they are told but if people in powerful positions refuse to follow orders, what will he do? We need someone take over that realises a unified world is best for everyone. Pie in the sky I know but we can dream.
The problem with comments about Blair, Bush and the Iraq war is they are given little or no context. Post Iraq 1 and 9/11 the world was a very unsettled place. To understand why the west reacted to Iraq the way they did is not only tied to these two events but to people and issues such as Abdul Qadeer Khan, Sheffield Forgemasters, Halabja, Gerald Bull and the quantities of dual purpose equipment sold to Iraq during that period from Europe, in particular from Germany. Motive and means. Saddam’s regime manufactured and had shown itself willing to use chemical weapons. The only thing they hadn’t successfully developed was the means to deliver chemical weapons over a long distance.
Blair, like Arthur Bomber Harris, will have to live with what he has done. I suspect both would feel, however, that to have done nothing could have resulted in a much worse outcome.

"The answer to all this is for them to revolt against Putin."
Unfortunately, history shows that the chance of the people revolting against a dictator like Putin is rare! An army coup may be different.
The funny thing is sanctions are designed to course disruption to the perpetrators and civilians. It is hoped that the civilians would revolt because of the sanctions. It is the civilians that end up suffering more than the perpetrators;
The irony is, The civilians are too busy finding ways to survive, in some extreme cases you will see families starving and the only people helping are the powers of the country 'Would you bite the hand that feeds you?'
I think comparing Blair etc with Putin is pushing it a bit. Putin and Hitler yes. It is a pity the threat of Putin pressing the little red button stops NATO from dropping a few bombs on Moscow
This may convince the Russian people of exactly what is going on. The signs are the Russian people are getting braver and showing their discontent on what is going on. The answer to all this is for them to revolt against Putin.
Rupert Murdoch - the ultimate puppet-master
Couldn't agree more Aberdeenman.
Blaire has blood on his hands yet is a free man. ( His wife isn't much better )
The media will only show what they are being told to show by the money people above governments. Just to keep genuine people in a state of mild brainwashing almost.
"Yet Blair/Bush, in the eyes billions are war criminals, they caused untold devastation, millions died/injured, county split in half, civil war, yet both claim to have achieved success by liberating the Iraqi people, and today both walk free and earning millions by doing a few hours of the odd speech here and there."
true, and Putin is also a thug and a criminal, but our leaders are not much better, we supply the bombs that kill innocent civilians in Yemen, we have also killed millions in colonialism, as have many western countries. The US has toppled many democratically elected governments, and they killed millions of innocent people in Vietnam to mention just one country.
Putin may be awful, but they all are, the reporting is just slanted.
I agree with TDT, there are no allies or enemies, just interests. Evidence of that is the sudden rehabilitation of Iran (Isreal had been the main block on that one until American interests trumped theirs) and now Venezuela.
The world is a horrible place when global, or domestic political , interests are the main priority, well above human life, western leaders are as guilty as Putin.

Servants...Hate that word.
John Lennon,
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D77dbv-xNfE
I think aiming to a life where having servants is your goal is a pretty shallow aspiration but it takes all sorts I guess. As for the old chesnut ".....half of your income is permanently removed, to support others" you really need to do a fact check before making a statement like that. What's of greater impact on the tax burden we have to bear is the tax avoidance of the wealthy, super wealthy and large corporations.
TDT
Hey Jim,what happens if you get to a developing country and it develops in to a developed country.Do you just dump your servants and move on to another developing country to retain the lifestyle.
That used to be known as colonialism.
MD
ronaldjohn123..agreed, Saddam invaded Q8...so he got what he deserved.
Who did Saddam invade or attack to kick start the 2003, 2nd Gulf war? History tells us, the UK/US went in without UN mandate, looking for WMD's, which we all know Blair lied to the Parliament, just saying!
Otherwise, there is no room for dictators in the 21st century, only room for lying and deceptive politicians...lol
Kammy
Ronaldjohn - Well said my friend! Couldn’t agree more.
Dizzy - similar situation to you and I have to say I am considering a move to other shores for variously similar reasons.
best of luck all
CBS
I’m from the west and I fully respect your opinion, I knowledge your right to disagree with me , good luck my friend
TDT - I’ve only visited Russia twice so can’t comment fully, but the family I lived with were doing OK.
The main issue living here in the west, is that’s becoming wealthy for the middle class is a distant dream, because approximately half of your income is permanently removed, to support others.
To answer the question, if I was a low skilled and low aspiration person Id stay in the west. This is why much of the worlds poor want to come here.
If I was someone qualified at something with the ability to sell my skills to others, I’m not sure.
My other half’s uncles are about my age and my pay grade, and they live in a developing country, and they own multiple properties and have servants. Whereas I will be busting my gut until I’m 65.
I think the west is a great place for most people, the masses. If you’re skilled in the west, you’re a cash cow for others essentially. Hence I want to FO at the first opportunity.
Saddam invaded q8 , it was all his own fault , he stirred the hornets nest and ended up living in a hole , who else was he going to invade next ? these lot are all the same bullys with warped minds hell bent on destroying anybody who don’t see eye to eye with them , and putin is the worst of the worst , kgb trained and described as ruthless, this jumped up little shxt has brought total misery to millions , left children with no parents , and is not dissimilar to hitler, and what for , to save is nation from what ? Have we ever threatened him ? He can keep his shxthole of a county who would want to live there ?this man will rot in hell , I hope I read about his assassination, shot in the bxlls and died a slow death every child that he’s killed pxssing on him
Potatohead, well put!
I think Saddam was tried, found guilty of crimes against his own people and war crimes in general, he was executed
Yet Blair/Bush, in the eyes billions are war criminals, they caused untold devastation, millions died/injured, county split in half, civil war, yet both claim to have achieved success by liberating the Iraqi people, and today both walk free and earning millions by doing a few hours of the odd speech here and there.
Something wrong when both cannot be tried at the Hague
Kammy
Our political elite is adamant on doing whatever they want, no matter what the consequences are.
Blair and Bush, on the other hand, are both war criminals.
I agree, can't predict the future, but with enough Intel, these politicians should be able to take a very good guess at impact of their decisions, unless of course, they are hell bent on doing what they want regardless of consequences.
Even now, Blair says he did what he felt was right at the time, and what he knows today, he wouldn't do it any different, attorney general told him the war would be illegal, the UN said the UK/US had no mandate to invade, yet both Blair/Bush were hell bent on invading and toppling Saddam, all under the guise of going in to seek and destroy WMD's.
Very true tricky but you can only do what you think is right at that moment in time Iraq is a great example of this , you cannot predict the future , putin makes me sick , he’s a sick child killer , this isn’t a war , it’s mass murder
Very true / profound that comment, TDT, especially the last para - sasa.
"Russia may well have low GDP compared to NYC, but they aren’t completely debt saddled like the west."
They may be so but at the end of the day, given the choice, where would you rather live, Russia or the West? I've lived and worked in both and I know which one I'd go for.
And yes the whole “freedom and democracy” thing is selective. It's selective because it's not our place to impose a particular system of government on others, in particular parliamentary democracy.
There are no permanent friends, there are no permanent enemies only permanent interests.
