I can see the point in ARA showing the Tanzania officials their Qarat Al Milh production facility, but not the rig. Why show Tanzania officials a drilling rig, a big chunk of metal that means very little to them and would have no relevance to the rig being used to drill CH-1?, unless you actually intend to use that rig to drill CH-1 that is. If so, there would be no need to panic about a rig contract as it would be with their existing drilling operator and the rig they already have under contract, a rig that can quickly be moved to Tanzania once the licence is in the ARA's hands.
"A field visit followed so the team had the opportunity to see the Qarat Al Milh production facility and drilling rig."
I see that ARA was previously known as Qarat Al Milh Petroleum.

They are using a rig from Weatherford International according to:

"During their visit, the delegates engaged in the OPES (Oman Petroleum & Energy Show), fostering valuable connections with international companies. At the ARA Petroleum stand the delegation were able to see first-hand & understand the strength & depth of the ARA group including numerous affiliated companies. Their agenda also included several meetings at ARA HQ, where discussions were held related to the Ntorya Gas Development project. A field visit followed so the team had the opportunity to see the Qarat Al Milh production facility and drilling rig. The delegation’s visit to Oman culminated in a meeting with the CEO where they expressed their satisfaction regarding ARA’s operations, capability and safety performance. This landmark visit set the stage for the next chapter of ARA Petroleum’s endeavours in Tanzania."

Another big clue to using the Weatherford Rig could be Sultan Al-Ghaithi. He formerly worked for Weatherford International.
CEO of ARA Petroleum

Non-executive Director of Aminex PLC

"Sultan Al-Ghaithi has over 20 years of industry experience and is currently Chief Executive Officer of ARA Petroleum LLC. He is a wellsite engineer by background and has previously worked with Petroleum Development Oman and Weatherford International where he was Country and Area Manager in Oman. Sultan previously served on the Board of Aminex between October 2017 and September 2019 before being reappointed to the Board in August 2021."
"Rich operational and managerial experience over two decades in E&P sector. Work experience spans across Oman, Bahrain, Qatar and Yemen in globally renowned firms like Petroleum Development Oman (PDO), Weatherford International etc.
Serves as a board member of Muscat City Desalination Company in Oman
Holds a BSc in Mechanical Engineering and MSc in Industrial Engineering"
Yes, and the commet in the AR, would seem to suggest they already have the rig, as there's no mention of contracting a drilling rig, but just contracting a rig operator??
"with the following planned for 2024, upon receipt of the Development Licence:"
"o Contract a rig operator to undertake the drilling of the Chikumbi-1 appraisal well and, if successful, to complete the well as a gas producer."
BG,
Yes, I remember seeing that in the RNS and did wonder at the time.
So no waiting for a rig contract RNS IMVHO, just rig operator. They could ship the rig anytime, no need to wait to contract a rig operator before shipping the rig, it can be there ready to go as soon as the rig operator can schedule in the drilling. No doubt ARA would pick one able to do the drilling at the drop of a hat or when ARA prefer to do it.
I'd expect Weatherford to be able to do it with short notice, as they are a global company and can soon put together a team from all their staff across 75 countries.
Im pretty confident when needed, ARA can deploy a rig within a reasonable timeframe but lets manage some expectations, no rig gets mobilised and operational in this part of the world "quickly". (I Have deployed and move rigs and managed drill sites in Eastern Tanzania). Lots of variables.... access roads, availability of vehicles, support camps, drill rig, mud tanks, drilling chemicals and materials, drill string, drill bits. As LTH know......All good things come to those who wait....
"As LTH know......All good things come to those who wait...."
Well, I'm a LTH and I've been waiting, and waiting, and waiting...
Nothing good has happened yet...
USDS - Long lead items were already in situ from spring last year. From a question I asked at the AGM, it seemed clear they had a particular rig in mind and they had already held preliminary talks with rig suppliers.
The plan has been indicated that the NT2 test will take place in the summer to establish the well head equipment required for connection etc. This was to be done with in-country equipment.
Ch1 will require a rig and following that they planned to rework NT1 with the same rig.
Beyond that we await for details of the FFD plans.
