last week looked like some one who has confidence in achl to spend that amount of money in one trade
When the Cuban government eventually relaxes things..when Fidel finally goes, Raul will open the door slowly to the idea of a small stock market in Cuba, to raise money for infrastructure & other useful projects..they won't be building motorways & shopping malls that's for sure..probably they will trade in fruit & other foodstuffs on the market as the country is abundant with organic self sustaining food..a well established & cash rich fruit company, could have a hand in helping Cuba achieve this however, America & it's throwaway culture would relax trading restrictions due to chinese involvement..
is they are waiting for Cuba to invest..it would be prudent to buy a smaller company out to diversify, especially with the cash at bank & project finance very difficult to find..
ACHL should also diversify some funds into Brazilian coconuts. It could buy into Brazil, lots of money to be made in coconuts.
.......I just checked, via the BBC website, that the outbreak of bubonic plague in China has comfortably missed our plantations. It's about time we had some good news ;-) If you think I'm kidding.....dyor. Sadly, the pot of gold at the end of this particular rainbow looks increasingly distant.....no matter how far you travel it always seems to be a year or two away. Good luck all holders and posters, Orphan
going through as some people may be buying up the shares while at this lower price after todays news
may be the best move after the canker , while i would have liked better news , not a major concern , i will be holding my shares for the long term
Hepu was already ruined by canker, I wouldn't be surprised if the best move was to just shut it down and focus on their other plantations. They should also distribute to shareholders all the cash they don't need.
Not sure, imagine they are but it's been a terrible series of events here the last 2 years - they must have lost their 'no claims bonus'. GL
Noticed a large 100,000 sell just at the time of the RNS - good timing. Is the company insured for weather damage? (looking for crumbs of comfort - as the company cannot do any thing about this sort of weather)
sp holding up at the moment, I suppose it was so depressed anyway.
Typhoon, mega-damage - bad luck after bad luck this share - I'm out.
Not good - wide spread damage due to typoon.
OK mate, well I had no idea about the August news other than it seeming like a good place for an SP break of some sort - direction to be decided - up should be to the 16-18p area with prospects for 25p, down I see 10.50 and a DB at 8p; it may see 10s as a pre-news shake and I'd suggest the 8p DB, if seen, could be the bottom for the share assuming future news is better ...
Understood every single word of your analysis......it's just when I read them together that I get confused lol. The strange thing is that we come to the same conclusion. August; to be precise, the first week thereof, as that is when we get the full year trading update. The very poor crop results should be softened by the impact of the fruit processing plants. This should be worth a few pence on the sp. The problem with ACHL is that there is insufficient volume traded for charts to be statistically robust, imo, with serious trading occurring in only about six to eight weeks each year. These weeks coincide with the two key dates (winter and summer crops) and with updates thereon plus overall trading updates and the interims and finals. I've managed to accumulate a reasonable holding of these (2nd in my portfolio to CEY) which I am holding long term. I don't expect them to go massive until 2015 or 16. This is not one for the day traders. Gla, Orphan
I'm yet to see a share that those of Oriental origin are involved in (either directly or via their "invested" filthy lucre) that didn't have its SP trashed. The vibe I have here is of repeated targets not being hit so something is up somewhere - either the numbers are complete horsesh*t in the first place and they're doing fine and pocketing the difference or they don't know wtf they're doing and are simply incapable of running the business to targets. I guess the question on the first possibility is whether the difference is being pocketed at the time or later on with big director buys and all-of-a-sudden great crop numbers etc ... All in all, it feels like yer average AIM oily but with fruit :) Still, to my eye it's broken out of a desc wedge and that's usually extremely bullish and that 8p spike down on the week it broke out of said wedge makes it all the more so as it marks a giant channel (top of that is currently 59p but don't get too excited, it's got no chance lol) - it's only gone sideways since then so that makes me wonder if there'll be a backtest of the descending wedge line which is currently c12p but it's also riding a slightly ascending line at c12.8p at the mo hence I wondered if it may have a little spurt towards 18p instead - absolutely no way I can tell which way but looks like it may move in August??
Probably so. The thing about fundamentals is that bears of little brain, such as me, can understand them......if a company starts a year with 16pps in the bank and the sp is 23p and then a year later it still has 16pps in the bank and the sp is 13p, I think it's worth buying. I don't understand charts or the surrounding terminology; I don't know the difference between a "bollinger band" and a "cava cocktail"; when the sp goes to 24p (whether or not via 18p) I don't know whether it's "broken out" or not, I just know I've made a shed-load of folding stuff ;-) What am I going wrong, Bonkers? All the best, (proud to be a fundy) Orphan
you fundys are maybe missing here? Granted I can see 10p but I can also see c24p by way of 18p ...
Contrary to my view that there would be "no excitement" in the update, we get yet more bad news. Furthermore, the indication from the BoD is that the processing figures won't be as good as we hoped. The market clearly wants performance and dividends TODAY as we continue to trade at a price which values the Company at less than the cash holding. I'll continue to hold for the medium to long term on the underlying value of the Company and if the price drops below 12.5 I'll top up with some more. I'm much cheered by the England bowling to the extent that Broad's hat-trick ball caused me to type "...less than the catch holding". I'm ready now for the long wait until we get the Winter Crop Report. Gla, Orphan
Just can't force those pesky oranges to behave!
Just as the share price was starting to recover - out comes a RNS to put us back to square one... will continue to watch as it's a classic recovery share if it gets its act together...
Er, well no they don't. However, they keep getting tipped in Shares mag - 2nd week running. Yesterday, they say that value investor Ben Graham had he been alive today would be buying into ACHL - more like turning in his grave at the thought of it! Profits are expected to be small this year, though on this RNS one would presume smaller, yet it finishes with : 'the turnover and core net profit for the year ending 30 June 2014 is expected to be in line with current market expectations, albeit, as announced previously, lower than that reported in the prior year ended 30 June 2013.' So, profit is as was previously expected - I would have thought having signed up to supply more oranges than you had might be penal.
Tipped in this week's Shares mag, especially because of new management and considerable assets. Falling today but will go higher I'm sure -- though how much is anyone's guess.
nice I was just going look for you. Yes I make it £1.07 -still below cost but a huge relief from before. The other aussie I bought silver lake is up over a third now. Didn`t want to tip it b4 cos I had not really studied it properly. Do you think this gold rise is here to stay ? impossible question I know. Bloody charles stanley while charging £50 to transfer one share ( double my main broker) are making it as hard as possible to do -laying down the law about exactlywhat both I And Saxo have to do to satisfy them.
Just a quick (and final until ACHL quietens down again) to say that we have seen a good run for MML this week, culminating in going over £1 for the first time in ages. Aud$1.885 close this a.m. which is about £1.045. As my holdings average out at 99.something, I'm showing blue on them, also for the first time in ages :) My "not blue" ACHL holdings might get a little lift next week when we get the update on the summer harvest. I don't expect great excitement but who knows? Next real excitement will be the very end of July or start of August when we get the full year trading update. Quite looking forward to that. Good luck, as ever, to all ACHL & MML holders and posters, Orphan
