Please explain the relevance for the SLA SP.
Unless you believe tracker funds/shorters have been selling SLA particularly.
One for you all as very interesting and explosive upside imo.
FRES is being removed from the MSCI index today and because of that tracker funds have been selling for weeks. Because that's ending the selling pressure is finally coming off today. So despite the strong move up in gold and silver it's been held back essentially, the selling pressure has been immense from these trackers. In addition, a shorting institution called Millennium who have a dismal record in the shorts space tried to short with a 7m shares short position but are already feeling some heat as they got their timing totally wrong. They basically went short at the end of the msci period rather than the beginning! Anyway, what with FRES being not in alignment with the likes of POLY (which has re-rated hard), the msci tracker ending today, and Millenium now under pressure to reverse that big short there should be a real big squeeze, fireworks shortly.
SLA is turning the tide and will be back to £3 very soon.
believe it was the same bright sparks company that designed UK olympics logo...memorable for all the wrong reasons.
Should have got input from the shareholders and employees regarding the name change. I feel this is another Royal mail Consignia moment . Hey what do I know being a thick Taxi Driver
@Rodgetrades thanks for the info, i'd missed that bit somewhere along the line
RGT
I think we all have to calm down and give SB and the BOD a chance to see despite stupid names change is whether the new all in one product and update will provide the required shot in the arm for the company to move forward
It will take time but we need to give the company the benefit of doubt and see where we will be in 18-24 months time
Shows a lack of imagination .... always a worry when the best a company can do is change its name ... one step worse than share buybacks when prices are high.
Bailed SLA last year after making a few quid .... loss of Lloyds contract was always going to hit SLA going forwards.
What was wrong with 'Standard Life' ? The name was a respected brand .
yeah, name changes usually are nothing more than an expensive waste of time, done simply to pad someone's ego or vanity
Hi, I do not know what happened to my message that was posted here this morning, I cannot see it. It as meant to say the below:
I have bought shares here just because of this article: fool.co.uk/investing/2021/04/28/why-the-abrdn-rebrand-is-a-poorly-timed-distraction/
They are notoriously bad in their predictions and also as you can see in their trustpilot reviews people believe that they are talking down shares they want to buy and pumping shares they want to sell with their hedge fund.
Of course, this might not mean anything as it is not a proven link, however for me it was enough to hit the buy button today.
As always DYOR.

Whenever a RNS is released during market hours it is bad news.
The name change was 8:02am.
Almost as if they were embarrassed.
Why are so many private investors taking a downer on a simple name change?
They have likely paid a substantial amount in coming up with the new name plus all the future costs to implement it going forward. It was unfortunate that the marketing companies teenage son, text the message back with the results of the new branding instead of the grown up actually responsible!
Yes it can be improved dramatically just by adding ".com" on the end. This makes it more modern but its a bit late for the .com boom. Still there might be an influx of new investors putting in their pocket money via a smartphone, well until they see it talks the talk but doesnt seem to walk the walk.
I suppose cutting the name follows the share price and dividend cuts. I hope its not going to be renamed "An" next year! to me, Abrdn looks too much like Abandon. Not really the message they were hoping for nor does it install confidence of age and experience. Something I like when it comes to money. Abdn1825 makes more sense in this respect and thats off the top of may head. (I'll take the millions in commission though)
I suppose it could be a Sharknando moment, so bad its good cos everyone is talking about it. No such thing as bad publicity and all that. Eless sounds too Yorkshire, Aberdeen bru is more Scottish as long as we are keeping with silly names.
Ultimacy as long as the share price and dividends are doing ok it wont matter what they call it or is that the real reason. We talk about everything but.
I strongly believe they will roll back on this name. They have time but should stop now printing the letterhead and avoid any future resulting costs.
AND (I'm on a roll) they don't inspire investor loyalty by BUY BACKS when they could have paid a dividend. I should change my blog name to disgruntled
ABERDEEN would be better in my view..............
This bird 'is on the wing' but he could change his mind in view of negative reaction to the proposed ABRDN? This has already cost them in falling share price. I may buy in again at around 250p. Anybody thinking similarly?
ABRDN ABSRD !!!
WTF is this all about. How many millions is this vanity project going to cost. **** 'm FF for mcdnlds
Kinda get the loss of Standard Life - brands been sold (I do wonder what for), so SLA can't use that any longer. But yeah - Abrdn still doesn't sound great. Wonder if it's meant to be something clever - like an anagram for "brand".
This utter fiasco reminds me of the riddle from a few ago, about an Australian beer:
Q. Why does Castlemaine call it's major brand of ale XXXX?
A. Because they don't know how to spell Ess Aitch Eye Tee.
Which also aptly describes SLA's choice of a new brand name. Methinks this is going to get walked back faster than the late European Super League. Although that has provided a footnote for keen pub quizzers; Name the only manager ever fired by an ESL team? Yes, it's José !! He really is a Special One.
Really really bad name. They may as well have chosen "Brand"
Abrdn....how is this even pronouncable. Give it the bird.
OMG I am so shocked and distressed by this name.
What are they trying to do. Destroy a brand entirely.
I have been a holder since the float so it owes me nothing - but this is pure crazy.
I guess I am not woke enough for this world.
Aberdeen was bad enough but ABRDN - is this for the twitter crowd.
