I was in your position and sold out as fast as I could through EQ. I took a loss but invested the proceeds in my IWEB account ISA. invested in Tesco and they are doing well.
ABDN or whatever they are called is a dog of an investment. Very happy to be out.

Back in 1993, ICI split into two-ICI and Zeneca.
Zeneca was underfunded so the company issued a letter of allotment to buy more Zeneca as a proportion of the new shareholding.
ICI was in the doldrums for some time and was taken over by,I think Nobel the Swedish chemical co.
Zeneca prospered and eventually merged with Astra. It has been a great share to hold over thirty years.

Where is this share going-into the stratosphere by the looks of it. The SP bobs up and down but the trend is forever up. I am heavily invested here but this cannot go on forever. Any ideas?

Been a LTI here since demutualization. I have been carrying a loss for quite a while. It took ages to receive a an registration number recently and sold up at a bit of a loss to invest elsewhere. The change of name and the sell of of the Standard Life brand name did it for me.Best of luck to all of you still in here.

The blurb says if you sell now max cost is#50.

I received my initial letter this morning. I tried to register and failed. Anyone experience similar problems concerning username and password?
Any more messing around with SLA/ABRDN and I might just sell up.

Yes after the noise settles down so does the SP. I am just ahead at present but any hope I had is disappearing again. I propose taking the divi for the next two years and hope for the best.

I just wonder if GSK splits a bit like ICI back in 1993. The pharma half issued holders an allotment letter to raise capital. The industrial chemical part was loaded with debt and was eventually gobbled up by Nobel Industries(?) The other half Zeneca went on to be AZN.

You might well be lucky investing in SMT over that short a time. It is a well run IT but the SP can be volatile. You will need to keep careful watch on this share to make a quick buck.

From what I can remember SMT was invested in biggish companies but low yielding even then. It was not in hi tech at that time.
SMT changed its profile back ten years or so ago and got out of their previous investments pretty much wholesale.
Until then they were much like other global ITs but their SP always seemed more expensive. I paid my contributions and thought about it on receipt of my half yearly account. SMT left the other global ITs behind. I assume that was JA's influence.
I initially picked SMT a year or so after I started a PIP in FCIT. I ended up paying less into SMT but now have more than doubled the value of SMT compared to FCIT.
I seem to remember I chose SMT as it complimented FCIT as it had a different type of holdings even then.
At that time ITs were an ignored as a Cinderella investment as unit trusts and their ilk were the rage. They were a cheap but efficient way into the stock market for someone like me.
SMT has been by far my best ever investment followed by AZN.

For what it is worth I have found investing in global ITs has proved very profitable but only over a period of years not months.
I have found that investing in individual British shares have been less profitable indeed I have lost money on some. I lost money on BTR/Invensis , Lloyds ,BT and STA-dogs. Pharma has been good to me I must say.
I have stuck to global trusts and prospered-Witan,SAIN,FCIT and more soecialist ITs.

I started investing in SMT in 1993. All I have ever done is make a monthly payment and reinvests divi. For most of the last thirty years this share has been pretty vanilla. Often after six months of paying in, my investment was worth way less than in the previous six months. I got used to it. SMT has taken off after changing its investment profile about ten years ago.
Investment is about Time and not about Timing. That maxim is certainly true for small investors like us.

ICI was the industrial chemical arm and eventually was taken over. Zeneca prospered , merged with Astra and the rest is history.

That is a very wise view on it. Where else to put your money otherwise ?
