Baffled why this thread is still going. Cinemas and Rolls Royce….nuts
Thank you casapinos for your crystal clear post about short interest positions. This has cleared up many misunderstandings I have had with this topic. Thank you for taking the time to write such a detailed presentation.
I am sorry to any RR. investors for sidetracking away from RR. issues.
Edward....there are a variety of ways of shorting, using spread bets , CFD's or options BUT the method relevant to the short positions shown on short tracker or this site is as follows.
A company (usually a hedge fund or private equity or sometimes an investment fund )will " borrow" for a fee (of maybe 2/3%) shares from a major holder, for example,s sake we'll say at the then market price of £1 each, with a commitment to return them at some future point, maybe 1 month or 3 months hence, they will then Sell them into the market at or about that same £1 price so if they borrowed, to keep it simple 10000 shares, they pay out £10K and collect £10k from the market, so far so unclear. BUT if subsequently the share price drops to 50p , they can buy back the stock for £5k and return them to the lender, netting a £5k profit(less borrowing fee). If the stock becomes worthless , they DO NOT HAVE TO RETURN ANY STOCK, so they keep the £10k , the brokers lose no money as they have merely facilitated two transactions for which collect their fee. The original stock owner is the loser as they get either the stock back worth less than when they "lent " it or in an extreme case nothing.
Why do stock owners lend to shorters? , because they get a fee for the loan and in most cases will get the stock back at or near the original price. In the cine case what will probably happen is the shorters make 70-100% profit and the investment company loses out on that particular loan - but of course, they may have millions of pounds in lots of stocks out on loan, most of which will be paying a nice 2/3% per quarter thus bumping up their returns.
Hope that is clear and resolves your obvious misconceptions.
Sry that true. So many things happen this year. Inflation, war etc. I forgot about the china COVID issue.
Yes I checked shorters gain in a massive 100% way and it will be their brokerage company is stung with the £bill. So the brokerage firms will eventually have to pay out £millions. So all in all the only winner from CINE going to the wall will be the list of three companies holding open short positions totalling 1.91%.
Thanks casapinos. Appreciated your comment. It is something I was curious about. Thanks.
Edward ...your 14.13 post is entirely wrong , the shorts were betting on cine SP falling and hence they make millions not lose them, read up on shorts , you have entirely misunderstood shorting. If you Still don't understand post again and I will run you through the outcomes for shorters.
Astro if it wasn’t covid company would not lose anything just like rest of us who are struggling with their own crap after the covid .
Why do you thinks life has gone so hard after covid and when the covid was around ? Do you watch any news ??
The harsh reality and risk of trading, it's such a terrible shame that people have lost so much money with CINE, I've read it time and time again across the bulletin boards, 'have a diversified portfolio', it's so hard not to get dragged into a share by averaging down, been there, still got the T shirt. Fingers crossed that the guy is just venting his frustration.
What does china has anything to do with Cineworld?. What they make they own films?
Thanks to China with the eating their own crap.
The world has turned upside down because of them .
Do they every regret what they actually need to eat????
And I do deeply sorry for anyone who lost money .i have managed to get some out before crazy drop .
I do really feel sorry for anyone who lost completely .
It isn’t easy but we only can invest what we can afford to lose .
Yeah hope so. Actually I was hoping that guy is just messing us about... If its real then.really hope he get the help.
I do hope the CINE investor that is a suicide risk does talk to his wife because that is the route to helping him get through the shock.
It like a roulette table now.
Down to under 2p, doubled to 4p and now Down again.
Absolute madness.
Sadly some have lost everything and still the vultures are picking their bones.
Sad day.
Thanks for the reply Edward … I didn’t buy wanted the low 81’s was going to try and make 50/60 in my 4K to pay for my meal tonight.. oh well I will play spoof with my wife for the bill :):)
Someone mention on forum they want kill them selves. Use all lifesaving without telling the wife...
People try to contact lse to contact him...
Just checked the Open Short Positions on CINE and they stand at quite a high amount of 7.54%, so they have also lost a shedful on money in the multi millions. Short or long everyone is punished if the company goes bankrupt. They will wishing they closed their short positions.
JTT: Yes I have read some of the posts on Cine and it is especially hurtful to read that one investor switched from RR. to Cine. What a big mistake that was.
JTT: Wow that is sad for any investors.
Cine-world toxic rampers moved to RR forum pls no....
Astro talk about RR them and stop comparing 2 totally different businesses with No likeness at all !
No need to be toxic guys . I'm investor with RR. Just asking question that all.
Remind me of toxic rampers in cine-world year ago... So be nice.
its very rare i feel the need to comment on here BUT why on earth would anyone even mention cine and rolls royce in the same sentence .
not sure if thats naivety / lack of experience or just a very stupid attempt to deramp.
But whatever it is, the comparison sucks.
w/o inflation, RR would have opened 88-90 today - bummer.
JTT that shows you how naive and inexperienced some people are in investing and having No knowledge about the business !
