It's not just the CO2 (and I agree that we contribute FAR more than all the volcanoes in the World), it's all the other things, like dumping our rubbish/sewage in the sea, and now, dumping our rubbish in space, as well as (of course) dumping our rubbish in parks, beauty spots, beaches, etc., etc.
Humans are generally pretty selfish, greedy and thoughtless, so we're now getting what we deserve.
It wasn't all that long ago that most people believed that our planet is big enough to "lose" all our rubbish without any consequences.
There are just too many of us (or at least too many of us to behave badly) for such a small planet and now it really shows.
"Hi Ralph, I agree, each volcanic eruption negates all the tax spent on trying to lower Co2."
This argument that human-caused carbon emissions are merely a drop in the bucket compared to greenhouse gases generated by volcanoes has been making its way around the rumor mill for years. And while it may sound plausible, the science just doesn’t back it up.
According to the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS), the world’s volcanoes, both on land and undersea, generate about 200 million tons of carbon dioxide (CO2) annually, while our automotive and industrial activities cause some 24 billion tons of CO2 emissions every year worldwide. Despite the arguments to the contrary, the facts speak for themselves: Greenhouse gas emissions from volcanoes comprise less than one percent of those generated by today’s human endeavors.
Another indication that human emissions dwarf those of volcanoes is the fact that atmospheric CO2 levels, as measured by sampling stations around the world set up by the federally funded Carbon Dioxide Information Analysis Center, have gone up consistently year after year

DH where do you get the £10,000 from?
Considering the average car holder spent £22.3 per week on fuel in the year 2020.
Equating to £1100 p.a. in total .

Hi Ralph, I agree, each volcanic eruption negates all the tax spent on trying to lower Co2.
I don't know about electric cars ever being cheap, if it wasn't for big subsidies on so called renewables then the powered turned out just would not be affordable. We must not forget the fuel duty and the VAT on the total which is one of the biggest income streams for the government! Will they have to "road tax" electric vehicles to replace the loss of fuel taxes? Probably £10,000/annum at current levels, Cheers, Dick
FFS....the amount of f**king cranks on the internet is breathtaking.
Twaddle, no scientists can now apply for funding if the study results are likely to contradict the dogma.

Watermelon politics...
fuddstone - I can accept humans haves changed the climate, but I also think its too late to stop the long term affects. We will have to adapt to some of those changes. Man might struggle but the planet will be fine in the long run, its been hit by far worse. Co2 right now is actually at near historic lows compared to a longer time scale. Plants like it too. The larger time scales show the temperature has been in an uptrend for 10000s of years, only stopped with large objects hitting the earth and the dust blocking out the Sun, cooling the earth. We have speeded up the inevitable.
All this anti Oil attitude could be doing RKH a favour. If someone presses go on this soon in about 3/4 years time they could be selling 1st Oil for $200/$300 a barrel. Its utter folly to try and control demand in the way that they are, by adding huge left wing pressure to "just stop". You need a viable replacement or you will start to get rioting and general unrest when the wheels grind to a halt. Oil usage will drop by itself when Elec cars are cheaper and more charging points are available and hopefully better battery technology.
Suggested reading for you DH.....
Human activities have increased the concentration of carbon dioxide in our atmosphere, amplifying Earth's natural greenhouse effect.
The global average amount of carbon dioxide hit a new record high in 2019: 409.8 parts per million.
The annual rate of increase in atmospheric carbon dioxide over the past 60 years is about 100 times faster than previous natural increases, such as those that occurred at the end of the last ice age 11,000-17,000 years ago.
The ocean has absorbed enough carbon dioxide to lower its pH by 0.1 units, a 30% increase in acidity.

150 thousand years ago there was a mile of ice on the north sea, 9,000 years ago we still had glaciers in europe, the planet has warmed and frozen over billions of years, no oil industry to blame, just the object which WILL dictate what weather we have, the Sun. If it wasn't for Co2 we could not have evolved. the longest and widest river in the world with a canyon bigger than the grand canyon is still under a mile of ice on Greenland, just accept climate change and adapt.
Even Sir David Attenborough has started to state that the population explosion is the main problem the planet faces, but in a growth society if the population doesn't grow where does the growth rally come from? Cheers, Dick
Well I've seen a BBC programme recently on climate change which stated ice melt on a Norwegian island has been at a constant melt since 1900. I've also read articles that man's contribution to global warming was negligible. Who you going to believe? Obviosuly the one that might help the planet.
Although ice has been melting since the 1900 `s it is not constant rate and is at this point in time accelerating rapidly.
Secondly you say ......
"Thirdly, If you do believe fossils fuels is to blame on climate change why not also teach and tell the truth that climate change could only be stopped from a total reversal of living standards."
Therefor you believe that we are responsible for climate change , as at present we are mainly dependant on fossil fuels, so it means fossil fuels used by humans are responsible for climate change
"Secondly, the ice has been melting at a constant rate since the early 1900's so to blame it on fosil fuels is specualtive."
Perhaps Buzz you should educate yourself a bit on the subject matter before making unsubstantiated statements on it.........
In a recent Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change report (IPCC, 2019), scientists observed a reduction trend of 12.8 per cent (± 2.3 per cent) per decade. With 4.1 million square kilometres, the 2019 minimum arctic sea ice extent is the second lowest (after the record low of 2012) since the beginning of satellite monitoring in 1979. This rate of decline is likely (between a 66 per cent and 90 per cent probability) to be unprecedented in at least the past 1,000 years.

Not getting into a "debate" regarding a scientific fact. Cubaneeler...climate is measured over centuries and millennia - not five years!
Re. "Greta and the Giants by Zoe Tucker, a story inspired by Greta Thunberg."
I have a confession to make.
When I started this thread, I hadn't really investigated what the book was about .. I just assumed, after seeing Greta's name, that it was about fossil fuels and the Giants were BP, Shell etc.
It turns out that it is about destruction of the forests by mythical giants. But the way that Brazil is destroying the Amazon rain forest or Indonesia is clearing all it's trees is definitely not mythical ... it's scandalous.
Seeing an Orangutan trying to protect his tree from being knocked down by a giant bulldozer was one of the saddest things I've seen for a long time.
Sorry to have misled about the book.
Firstly I was talking about brainwashing regarding various topis including sexual gender, race, religion etc etc.
Secondly, the ice has been melting at a constant rate since the early 1900's so to blame it on fosil fuels is specualtive.
Thirdly, If you do believe fossils fuels is to blame on climate change why not also teach and tell the truth that climate change could only be stopped from a total reversal of living standards.
Bootlegger, just out of interest, can you please let me know how much the planet has actually warmed since 2015/6. I am no climate sceptic, and I appreciate there are many ways of measuring global warming, and I appreciate the temp levels have been at very high levels over the last 5-6 yrs, but you stated global warming is a scientific fact. Up to 2015 yes....maybe to come....but over the last 5 yrs (I appreciate El Nino/solar activity etc)
Being very optimistic, the warming up to 2016 is causing the climate change/sea level change we currently experience, and that the sensible steps that have been and are being taken have already made a huge impact on warming and future changes, which would be very unfortunate for many protestors.
Cubane
Fudd: 100% correct, no time for Thunberg...but this nonsense from too many people that it's "brainwashing" to acknowledge and address global warming (a scientific fact) is bizarre. I hold RKH/RDSB/BP...but fully understand man has to wean himself off fossil fuels.
Let's not be hypocrites- we would all like to make a few bob on RKH, but we all know that humans are trashing the planet. Anyone who doesn't is living in a dream World.
Fossil fuels will have give way to others, and we all know that we can't carry on living the way we have.
Most of that has more to do with our greedy life-style where fossil fuels will be needed for some time to come - HBR have staked their business model and reputation on that.
So, I'm afraid that in the long run, Greta's right. Brainwashing doesn't come into it.
It`s not what the state thinks it`s what the science is telling us.
Agree. We send our children to school to learn not be brainwashed into whatever the state think.
Kate and Jill Biden visited a school in Cornwall today.
"They were told that the children were reading Greta and the Giants by Zoe Tucker, a story inspired by Greta Thunberg."
Looks like the school is trying to brainwash kids against fossil fuels, hoping that they will then tell their parents ... the sooner RKH get the oil out of the ground at SeaLion the better.
