Thanks Jerry for the heads up so it will be all go on Monday can not wait. Ciao DM
Droverman, the price that the stock enters the index is the closing price today. Ie 4.30. If you are a fund that tracks the index you need to buy basis the closing price to be price and risk neutral and to perfectly track the index. Its got nothing to do with US markets. I think all adjustments are basis todays closing prices, but of course with an index with stocks from multiple exchanges, the closing times are different.
Hi Jerry, why do the have to buy at 1630 hrs when the market is closing, USA markets open at 1430 hrs our time so i presume they can start buying then, but there again what do i know. Have a good day or gudun as the yanks say, Ciao DM
It could well be on behalf of the index Enrico. They look the right size and quantity.
Mushy. In theory they have to buy AT 4.30, but obviously this isn’t practical so they will be buying ahead of this. How much ahead is anyone’s guess. A week? A few days? A few minutes? The earlier they buy the bigger their risk. Of course they could try and buy all on the close and at a price they will get them all but that won’t happen cos they aren’t that stupid. Look at deGrey today, closed off the highs. Some one or a group we’re waiting for them and they got completely ambushed.
What was the total number of shares they'll be asking for? If it's around 100m, the 12 x 8,144,366 almost does it. We've had eight such trades so far, so the last four could be worked today; alternatively, two today and another two on Monday, so that the market is not too disrupted. I really don't think these 'clockwork' trades have appeared out of the blue (pun intended).
Me neither Rup because dropping the sp doesn't JUST panic people into selling. It also encourages the canny to top up. All very odd and unchartered waters for me. (But then most things in this caper are in that category haha)
Makes no sense to me why they are dropping the SP
Given imminent GDXJ purchases even if front loading has occurred
Not selling any shares and will reassess after MRE is announced....

"if GDXJ want to mimic the index they have to buy it all at 4.30. They have probably bought some already but will try and buy the rest today."
Do you mean they have to buy it 'by' 4.30 pm or 'at' 4.30 pm Jerry? Can they just walk in on the bell and say "I'll have £10 million quids worth of shares my good man and yes I have my own bag thank you?"
What if the mms don't have it? They can't get them from us lot because the market will be closed and that is a hell of a lot of shares. It seems inevitable the trading would move into Monday unless this little 'shake n vac' works loose all of those remaining required shares today.
It's not only stop losses that triggered it's more of top slicing by many folks (including myself....)that put some temporary pressure on the current trading....IMHO.
With 10 many bagger profit you can't really blame anyone taking few off the table....I actually did the same to add few to my SOLG holding...
needless to say I still kept quite few here for the next leg up in due course, and if the retrace will continue than I may even average up.....
GLA whatever you do,
The mm's can only control the price if there are sells ....simple DONT SELL
If you think the MM are bringing the price down temporarily to hit stops and trigger some shares / liquidity into the market - then swim with the tide, buy a few more shares here at the low point strictly as a 5 day trade and then sell them say 20% higher next week.
The MM will revese the price once they see buying taking out the low points.
I have just done this on an IG index spread bet - i can see 20% on this trade.
So in reality we could see the SP tick down quite a bit today, and no matter the volume of buying the MMs will control the price, soak up some stop losses along the way and know they will have a big bonus buy-in by the end of play today and maybe some more on Monday morning.
thats not what hydro said. ive no idea though
So if GGP shares close at 4:45 are we likely to see the results today do you think?
For some reason some people think the buying will happen on Monday. That will only happen if they dont get all they need today. The shares go into the index basis the closing price today. So if GDXJ want to mimic the index they have to buy it all at 4.30. They have probably bought some already but will try and but the rest today.
