Hello LTI.
JC says CC can deal with all Comms problems at present but you never know if new requirements occur.
The current situation is probably ideal for Manufacturers and Utilities alike not to have to worry about Comms aspect.
Our Pilots 'fit for purpose' are hopefully in the past and the Intellismart order is probably subject to fitting into the various shapes of meters already installed and to come.
jakes comment is spot on, in the past my old lot had an 8 year delay between software and changes of requirement and continuous Law changes. Ironically by the time we got in the untouched building it was starting to look old.
Good evening tonyj,
No problem. Most of us suffer from the " Ooooops syndrome," every now and again.
But I think that the information given in the " Validation " report, especially in the " Need for smart metering validation " section, possibly highlights some of the problems utilities/meter manufacturers/solutions providers, can come up against, during the initial stages, of say a " Pilot " which need to be sorted before a " Roll-out " is sanctioned.
From the report:-
" Validation is one of the most critical aspects to ensure the success of a smart metering project. It should cover all aspects of the system. Any malfunctioning or undisireable behaviour, in an integrated system or any lack of features, when found at a later date, may be too costly to rectify."
So, jakes " He who fails to plan, plans to fail " comes into play. As well as " Doting the i's and crossing the t's."
LTI.
Sorry LTI, that was not intended to be a lead question.
Getting the oooops syndrome.
Hello LTI, that was intended to be a lead question.
Rephrase, was that a reflection on current situation in India do you think.
Also was Delhi mentioned as a problem area recently.
I will probably look that one up myself.
DYOR
Good afternoon jake,
I agree. And you also need a good product to work with. I have provided a couple that may be of interest, that you may already know.

LTI.
Good morning tonyj and all,
I do not believe that CyanConnode are mentioned in the report. And I personally, did not mention CyanConnode in connection with the report. Just posting some general industry information.
But it seems to be the opinion of Mr. Rajesh Bansal, on the considerations/problems that various companies and utilities have to make/are making, when rolling out a smart meter/smart grid project.
Some of these are found under the heading - " Need for smart metering validation." But there are other " Headings " that cover other aspects of his report.
Also from the report - " About the author "
" Rajesh Bansal is an Electronic Engineering graduate, presently working as CEO at BSES Rajdhani Power Ltd, a power utility serving 2.7 million consumers in Delhi, India. He has 10 years' experience in meter design and manufacture and 17 years experience in power distribution. His specialisation is in the field of meter management, meter data usage and network operations management."
So I would say Mr. Rajesh Bansal could be considered as a seasoned professional, in his area of expertise.
LTI.
'There may be several areas that have come a cropper and possibly CC RF/Cellular when approved by Intellismart could get some very big contracts.'
Unless you can prove otherwise, this is complete fiction.
My forecast for India is they might inch forward. My forecast for CC is continued small and niche, not just in India, but UK and anywhere else that volume starts.
Now, where did you find the info to suggest CC will be involved in very large contracts, don't say JC!
From what I know, my guess is CC might gain up to 1% in any target nation. UK probably lower.
Colour, grasping at straws.
Unless you can prove otherwise then that is tripe.
What about Trilliant, you never answered on that.
Bangladesh, had change of direction and politics but does not feature in current assets so why bother.
Iran, US released its stronghold and months later reimposed sanctions.
We are all looking at India at present so give us your forecast.
DYOR
Given CC supposedly have the 2nd highest install number in India, if they are finding issues, CC maybe ARE the issue?
No smoke without fire....ask Bangladesh and Iran.
INDORE Showcased perfection according to CC. No visitor has trusted it since a visit.
LTI, interesting. Is that a comment on the problems they have had recently and is CC being considered to rectify situation, at a price in many places. There may be several areas that have come a cropper and possibly CC RF/Cellular when approved by Intellismart could get some very big contracts.
Only my thoughts, DYOR.
Thanks for that LTI.
It is just reiterating the need for good project management , customer engagement and proper scoping. As they say ,fail to plan ,plan to fail.
...... is a report by Rajesh Bansal, the CEO of BSES Rajdhani Power Limited and explains some of the hurdles/procedures that smart meter/smart grid companies should to go through, to validate their solutions/smart meters.
So an exercise in " doting the i's and crossing the t's."

Another interesting read.
