" its all coming a bit quick for a relatively small team"
Yeah.... I think the sector and production in general is changing fast and things aren't going to be done the way they once were
....Pete Harvey, the guy from BT Sport was clear about that....he even said that he thought the industry was really struggling with regards to "remote production" ..and they chose to work with Blackbird having asked around for a solution to their needs.....
plus...all of a sudden the use of AI and blockchain becomes part of the equation and on the development shopping list and moving quickly up the "to do" list .... I mean in a way it is exciting, I suppose
..but .. I guess it means you have to be a bit of a "shape-shifter" and be able to adapt to whichever direction the customer/sector decides to move ..and with tech, of course, you have to stay on your toes... and as such keep various ideas in development
...the guy from LiveU and TownNews talk about how they are meeting their customer demands for constant new content and speed etc etc...so..across the sector it seems everyone is working fast to adapt to the needs... and of course to a post pandemic world etc ..
Blackbird presents: Game-changing cloud native video workflows. With LiveU, BT and TownNews - 16th Sep 2021

I am more and more amazed, to be honest, at what all these companies are achieving and that we the customer are beginning to take for granted... as the new normal...we now have the presentation and webinars on YouTube within 24 hours ..everything now has an expectation of instant availability
Getting involved with American Soccer production with CBS Sports is a foot in the door there.....sounds like being given a pilot ..which if completed successfully could then lead to other sports coverage ....to be seen
It does seem.. looking at a few of those webinars... that they do have a very good relationship with their customers.Oliver Parker, CCO, has, alongside Ian, built good professional business relationships... hence the low churn, I suspect
I feel the same about any future fundraising...no problem...and they would have no issue getting Investor Interest ,I suspect ..all OK though..it seems
Having watched the presentation again PokerChips I agree that they seem to be spinning a few plates. However, I'm not sure that they should be plate spinning at this point in the journey and plate spinning is not the way y to IM's vision of global domination or even global recognition.
I have a gut feeling that the potential growth and interest is a bit more than they possibly projected and its all coming a bit quick for a relatively small team.
I am beginning think it will be either be break even or small profit in H2.
I do think we will see some form of fundraise after we have achieved profitability.I think it will be needed to take advantage of the opportunities that seem to be in front of the company. As a shareholder I would have no problem with it.The directors have plenty of skin in the game and I think it will be done in the right manner.
SS also spoke about Blockchain which would be big news.
They also recon their IP is more valuable than Frame.ok.
DYOR.
I got the impression that SS and his team are spinning a number of plates with different projects all on the go simultaneously
He spoke of the splitting their resource into
a. Incremental Developments
b. Strategic Developments
With regards the Incremental Developments that customers ask for
..Aliki Rodgers, Senior Production Engineer, Arsenal F.C mentioned ..
" There are very few things that I have asked BIRD Support whether BIRD can do, because I cannot find it..but ..it is almost always there ..and it is usually behind a very clever series of Hotkeys. The UI has got a lot more than you would think and it is incredible what has been squeezed in "
With the Strategic Developments ... SS said there were quite a few people in the Product Team and they seem to be working on the Public Cloud, The Codec 10 , use of Blockchain etc...all at differing degrees ..at the same time
and he added that he thought the Development Team would get "more bang for their buck" ...so...
SS is now 56 years old so i I suspect there is now a huge array of talent out there with plenty of whizz kids coming out of Universities and PHD courses unlike 20 years ago and I dont think the Product team are lacking talent, myself.....plus Huw Dymond is a very good speaker and Director of Product
It was also very telling that Codec 10 was delayed because SS was still working on the licensing deal. How is he going to cope if this aspect grows significantly. They seem to be very heavily reliant on SS.... (Having only one in business is a very dangerous number). I hope this is addressed. !
I thought it a really interesting presentation. A few things struck me;
IM spoke well as usual.
An admittance that the pricing is keen to attract the names they have.
To me I think It looks like's small loss, break even or even small profit in H2.
They said they should reach profitability within existing resources and no need for further fund raising in the foreseeable future.
They are obviously very excited about the substantial increase in the total addressable market(TAM) and SS made point of saying that the business was of a nature that could be scaled up without a great increase in costs or resources. There comes a point though that if they want greater penetration into the TAM they need to be generating profits to support it or additional funds. The tipping point comes in my view 18/24 months. I wonder if at that point their pockets will be deep enough to take it on without further fundraising or will they sell and leave it to the big boys to deal with.
