IandB, I’m not suggested it was ever an educated plan, I think that’s the position they’ve landed in. They’re just lucky that the studies suggest that natural immunity appears to be as effective and possibly longer lasting then via jabs. The only credit they deserve is for the vaccine roll out that has reduced cases - in the summer - to a manageable level and given them the opportunity to go for herd immunity. Winter will be interesting…
Neut, completely agree, testing in certain situations, globally, will remain and it remains a large market worth being involved in if you have an easy to use high performance test to sell.
Email management gje306 re Avacta test as likely the one to minimize loss of staff to false positives.
Thanks
This was a recent communication and invitation back to the office. I'll be going in this coming Monday (was supposed to be yesterday but it was delayed), and will try and find out.
GJ : What test is your company using?
Testing already mandatory in my workplace (~1000 employees) with an onsite clinician conducting the tests. I can see HR mandating this in large corporate settings to avoid liability issues.
I was wondering about validation but webcam could be a potential solution. Presumably they could record including passport or driving licence. Don't have to watch all of them as long as people think you might. Alternative would be pop up testing like they have in Germany. Must be enough retail space available at the moment.
I also wonder when testing will be mandatory at work. Suspect that's the half way house to enable govt to pass on the cost. Schools etc still get it free but private companies will be told it is part of H&S. Also avoids lock down
Who knows - HUA is in progress and user trials took place (LSE sleuths) so news can be predicted to be on its way.
Well they dont need to announce that... even though its good news the device actually works.
So, to navigate this issue, LFT via webcam within 24hours of event... event also held online.
Free /or paid for LFT sent you your home address.
Nobody turned away at the door :D
Neutronic,
AS: "We expected a full house for our presentation, but due to our highly accurate LFT, we had to send half of them back home".
Neutronic
Great list
Don’t forget these guys:
Biokit
The license agreement follows an extensive evaluation by Biokit of certain Affimer reagents to detect a key analyte. Under the terms of the agreement Biokit has the right to develop, manufacture and commercialise through original equipment manufacturer (OEM) partners a diagnostic immunoassay for this analyte.
Avacta will receive royalties on future sales of any products brought to market following completion of product development and regulatory approvals. Financial details of the agreement were not disclosed.
Agree with that Doze, also holding a conference for end of the month in person rather than online is a missed opportunity to really sell the LFT and boost confidence. Using the Affidx test to ensure everyone is compliant and safe, either done at the door (Using a professional) or via a webcam service 24hrs prior to the event.
Would have been a great sales pitch and give investors a chance to use the product as directed.
DHSC could buy AffiDX for professional use and I expect this to happen for the government to laud British biotech when capacity is there; private organisations will follow suit as they see fit which in my opinion will be largely restricted to regulated test environment; AS should have conveyed news that his staff all take twice weekly AffiDX sars2 test and how good it is at picking up the infectious or to reassure everyone is safe and in production protected environment (PPE!).
PL and Agent - I think things may be less considered than you imagine. Government has many moving parts not all of which always move in a co-ordinated fashion.
Start with the fact that this Government is led by a lazy and self-absorbed person who sets the tone. The approach to procurement is influenced by the desire to allow themselves and their mates, families and donors to benefit. They are populists and have a right wing dislike of the state providing solutions - thing of them as like a lite version of Bolsonaro or Trump.
When Cummings was there he had a plan that clearly was big on testing but no-one else cares enough about it. Like Bolsonaro and Trump they like to pretend everything is normal when it is not. That and a lack of general foresight and care means that they don't like restrictions, don't even like masks and aren't really very keen on testing.
Vaccination was a gift to them because they keep effing up and it is one way of making them look like they are ahead of the game and suits their whole anti-restriction agenda. Of course they privately and sometimes publicly air the idea of natural and ultimately herd immunity because they don't have the right ideology, motivations or attitudes to handle a pandemic and just want it to be over.
As has been said before they are probably two minded about accurate tests anyway - accurate tests mean more accurate and specifically higher representations of the numbers having covid. That doesn't suit the pretense it is all over. On the other hand if they can let most of life rock on as normal but use contexts like schools, healthcare, workplaces and travel as gateposts for testing they can pretend they are 'allowing' freedom whilst actually maintaining some kind of lid on rates going into winter. So we don't use testing to aid a move to zero covid but simply to keep a simmering pot of hospitalisations from boiling over. Sorry to say that this means the domestic fate of affidx is linked to how bad the crisis is. Of course as many note this is a global product though.
They should be in discussions with Westminster Group. They seem to be winning big airport security contracts which also cover Covid security.

I would really like to see a concerted effort by Avacta to achieve some commercial deals in the travel industry.. applying for relevant authorisations for their LFT to be approved for flights.
Would be great if they can get a big customer like IAG, (Spanish) company as it stands, the same country Medusa have conducted their trials and validations, the website is also in Spanish.
This would be a fantastic move for Avacta, and would be shocked if the discussions are not taking place with them at this stage.
PL, even if not regular testing for return to work, big events etc, I think doing cheap LFT prior to flights will out stay all other testing.
Boarder protection and monitoring of variants will be key. In order to find new variants entering the country and causing havoc they need to monitor this. I’m sure most countries will take this stance.
Take cheap couple of quid LFT test.
Pass - free to fly
Negative - PCR and sequence it to see what variant and monitor it.
This also helps countries communicate regarding variants countries havent found themselves by regular workplace testing which might be spreading undetected.
Totally agree PL. They are pursuing a highly dangerous policy - despite the fact that they must surely have picked up enough scientific knowledge by now to KNOW that there is a better way. But why is there zero media questioning about alternatives? Why hasn’t FTI leapt onto the Strictly Come Dancing debacle as an excellent PR opportunity? It’s because they are towing the line. Look what happened to Mologic when it threatened to take the Gov to court over Porton Down…. Suddenly taken over to become a philanthropic concern.
AgentB, it’s because the govt want it to spread. Their plan is herd immunity via a combination of vaccine and further spread giving natural immunity. They’ll only act if the NHS become overwhelmed - which it will but they’ll just suggest working from home. They’re risking new variants and vaccine escape and never ending disruption, but they’re going to ignore it and just provide annual boosters. I still think a 100% sensitive test is the perfect solution to keep the prevalence low and protect the borders with PCR follow ups to determine variants, but there you go.
Crikey, here we go again!
Go on then Timster, do tell me why it makes more sense to let double-vaxxed people travel with impunity when they can still spread the virus. Why has the Gov ignored the fact that accurate antigen testing for all travellers on day of travel is the best way to stop contagion?

One for you Agent
Al is following Gov agenda. Simple as that. Look up ‘Trusted News Initiative’ it explains why there has been no media coverage of accurate antigen testing. Nothing can stand in the way of vaccine roll-out.
Radio silence has been the issue for months..
Only one company can be blamed for that.
Are the trying to get HUA for both tests? If so thus might be a reason for length of time it's taking.
I know the Medusa boys are well heeled but I don't think even they would consider spending £20m just to sit on their hands and wait around for a few pen pushers to sign off on their product(s)...I'm sure they and Avacta will be doing everything possible to get things setup and moved along...
Blame the pen pushers not Avacta...
