I'm not in this for trading, I'm in for divi's and building a holding which will eventually support my aim of retirement before I turn 60. This is a golden time to buy if you can IMO; unfortunately pretty much all my funds are invested in markets so they've been eroded about 30% across all holdings, but confident they will rebound.
My understanding is Maurice has confirmed explicitly to Aviva staff when questioned that the final divi will not be cut. Aviva is exceptionally cash-rich and solvent. Cash-flow is currently not an issue at all.
Bought another £700 worth just after payday; couldn't spare any more at this time. Will make a profit on that easily once we're on the other side of this virus.
Fruitster....correct, its not AV’s ‘raison d’etra’ to provide loans for as you say its more a function of providing diversity of investments to support their principal business activities. There is however an exposure here and
I do suspect the PRA , who also oversee Insurer’s, will be anxious to see Capital protection, hence my concern over the Divi. GL
As it is a Final, only if vetoed by Shareholders. The Banks were different as they
were bludgeoned into cancellation by the PRA
"Aviva doesnt lend money though"
Aviva does lend money links below:

https://www.lse.co.uk/news/big-yellow-takes-out-new-gbp35-million-loan-facility-with-aviva-ydatk6tzzidiabu.html
"We provide loans to a full spectrum of clients from REITS and institutional funds through to family offices, private property companies, developers and opportunity funds. We also cover all main asset classes including office, retail, industrial and residential as well as smaller sectors such as student accommodation, hotels and serviced apartments."
Or have I missed the point?
Of Shareholders assets some £31b is classified as Loans...most commercial mortgages, so there is an exposure there which needs protection given we are tipping into a Property / Housing downturn.
Would be amazed if AV. don’t now withdraw the Divi. with their income getting cut on a daily basis. Hope young Jason is up to the job.
I suspect our div is at risk now even though we are solvent.
Aviva fell when the ftse went up sharply ftse futures down over 100pts expect a drop of at least 10p tomorrow aviva the share that does not rise with the ftse but sure as hell falls with the ftse
Absolutely mrcarrick., but then the dust hasn't settled yet. Many companies will see that in the aftermath of this crises, there will never be a better opportunity for merger and acquisition activity. Aviva itself could gobble up some bargains if not subsumed by a larger predator IMO. Consolidation is on the cards in due course.
Pure speculation and cannot see it for a minute.
"NAV is £3.5771 to the end of December.
Jeffries are valuing the share at or around NAV...no value for the brand, the strength of the business not future potential. Since 2015 the nav has increased from £2.61 to £3.57...
Earning per share of 63p...any buyer would need to pay 10x that to get a sniff of a deal.
Can't see them being for sale, but you never know...for the right price all businesses are up for sale."
Yep. £6.00 a share is a fair price.

All the best holders...
A) Allianz ?
B) Do the maths !
But timing isn’t right yet .
A) who is going to buy Aviva?
B) Why would they offer £5 a share?
Bloody nice profit £5 a share would be.
I will snap there hand off at 5 pounds a share lol
Not surprised by that since a lot of small oil competitors will go bankrupt leaving the field for the big players. As far as Aviva goes, when the dust settles, there's bound to be an hostile takeover bid with possibly an audacious offer of about £5 per share. Hopefully this would be rejected as seriously undervaluing the company.
It's more unbelievable because with the massive glut of oil around that Shell and BP are both up a fair bit today.
You've only got to look at Aviva's 30 year SP history to see why people say if you can't think of anything else to short then short Aviva.
Ffs the CFO confirms the final dividend is safe the ftse 100 is up the share price which is already depressed goes down
Wonder how we all knew this would happen.
As usual drifting down after a good start you could put your house on it to do this
