Clear as mud Adam thanks. cheerful chap compared to the other two.
Well summed up Anneowl [wink]
I earlier paraphrased AB saying : "[we are adding] the H2 upstream generation [from the electrolysers]".
But to hear him word for word : https://www.dropbox.com/s/qlyi9a8p94wx4ba/2nd_container.mp4?raw=1
"[smirk] Umm, sure that second container [laugh] uhh, sorry the first container which was on a ship err, couple weeks ago was operational in Saudi Arabia ahh, and we're adding to that now the uhh hydrogen upstream generation, so generating the hydrogen from the electrolysers that we umm, that we've now put on a boat and it's as you said in Valencia now at the moment ahh, so that was, uhh wasn't another fuel cell if thats where the question was going, it's an adaptation to the system we're offering Extreme-E"
Fair points MrA, maybe the initial coverage had to get the interest squarely on the racing, and as it develops more detail will be focused on the energy supply. Although it would be more than reasonable for AFC to accurately describe the whole system they have.
MrA... the 2nd container is an electrolyser!
ItsallBull
My guess is they fill up containerised water tanks at the harbour when they arrive, as there is always water available to vessels there. A couple of containers is probably enough for the event.
Where is the water coming from for the electrolyser?.. Is the fuel cell dispensing enough water to wash the cars and supply the electrolyser for more electricity?
I got the impression the Power Logistics guys helped Extreme E and AFC getting all the local power systems up and running.
Agree sounds like they'll configure the gen sets out of the mix if they can. Solar and AFC Fuel Cell only renewable power sources to charge the Battery(s).
It will need charging even if shipped already charged.
Extreme E have Solar, an Electrolyser, and our Fuel Cell. So there are a couple of possibilities.
1) They could charge from Solar when the Solar is not being used to generate Hydrogen.
2) They could use the Solar to generate Hydrogen, which is stored, and then use the Fuel Cell to charge the battery.
I think option 2 makes more sense if they have spare Hydrogen storage capacity, as they need to balance the charging of the EV's with charging the battery, which may not work when relying on when they are depleted and when the sun is shining. Far easier to use the Hydrogen storage to balance it.
So basically we have enough capacity to power the cars and the garage/ ground ops as well and the price has dropped....
Couldn’t make it up!
If the AFC fuel cell is to be used to recharge the Zenobe battery ....then that to my way of thinking is as good as a new contract and should be announced as such ....Power Logistics were given the contract to supple power to the teams garages and paddock using HVO in their generators .....something has changed in that format ...but it is not very clear .
The gensets @ExE were HVO, hydro vegetable oil. Can be improved though.!
When are you expecting those answers?
Using gensets was maybe a sensitive issue for Extreme E. Looking like they are improving their footprint as they go along. c.f. St. Helena power 'electric NOT YET'
Says " maximise the consumption of renewable energy generated onsite" who else is generating ren energy onsite???
Hope they publicise AFC's roll more.
Will Extreme E make it clear who will be recharging the Zenobe battery once it it drained down ?
Sorry 12th May !
As the Official Energy Storage Supplier for the inaugural season of Extreme E, Zenobe’s second-life battery will allow the series to maximise the consumption of renewable energy generated onsite.
2 May 2021, London: Zenobe, the UK’s leading independent owner and operator of battery storage and EV fleet specialists, will be providing a second-life battery to provide power to Extreme E’s site operations. These include the team garages and critical broadcast infrastructure, helping the series meet its net-zero target and highlighting the power of a circular economy.
So who's generating renewable energy onsite? This time looks like AFC will displace the diesel gensets running the static facilities. Must have worked ok in Alula then!
