As I said, not a motor racing fan.
All the same..You mean just like formula E where lots of manufacturers are involved .. they do it for marketing purposes and to demonstrate their green credentials and to learn about the electric package and how best to deploy the power.
Their skill and knowledge will shine through because there is also a huge advantage in the set up of these cars performance wise.. they should be pretty good at that.
I'm no motor racing fan. I thought all the cars in Ex E were the same, so why would a manufacturer want to be involved?
Just as an example of advances in ammonia crackers have a read of this link.
https://www.sciencedaily.com/releases/2020/11/201118141718.htm
It's not difficult to conceptualise how something using these principles could be addd as additional couple of "plates" to an AFC fuel cell delivering hydrogen directly into the system and using a little of the electricity produced to power the cracker
I'm not proposing this example as necessarily "the one" but there are quite a few places round the world reporting work on similar methods. I think it likely that one of them will be good enough.
That is the quote I was thinking of although I wasn’t sure if he meant they would integrate the cracker into the fuel cell container, or get rid of it altogether.
Heath, you could be right regarding ammonia direct cells. In the recent interview with S & P Global the following was stated -
The ammonia still has to be cracked on site by a small 'cracker' unit, but Bond said: "watch this space, maybe we'll be able to get rid of that at some point."

This is a fascinating paper. I don't think the commercial applications to AFC are immediate, but if you read the sections on alkaline membrane fuel cells there is definite potential for Alkamem here (nafion is cited). I am sure AFC will be aware of this application and the enormous significance if they can get the S cell to work directly from ammonia. It would not surprise me if this is a focus of research for them at present.
The S as we assume it now will require a cracker but it looks like there is the possibility of ammonia direct cells.

I’ve not read through this fully yet, and may never do so may have got it wrong, but it could be something AFC are working on.
Seems like a perfect opportunity for AFC to use an ammonia fuelled product to tie in with the overall shipping and ammonia thing going on. Could it be an S? Could it be an cracker-less ammonia fuelled cell? I am confident (although of course not 100% certain) that we’ll be involved with E1, and it may be the timescales for the series work well with our timelines if the series will start later in 2022 given the prototype boat is only expected late this year.
We can also expect some announcement from Extreme E with regard to the " not electric yet " St Helena .....they clearly wish to convert from diesel to electric ....so plans to do so must be well underway .
No problem Jhonboy...I probably do.
I am firmly behind AFC and the reason I continue to hold is that I expect great progress. However, like many, I am frustrated by the lack of news flow that always seems to follow very optimistic pronouncements from AFC. The lack of firm orders means that I am confident of commercial success, but not yet 100% so!
Perhaps I am a long term ramper and a short term de ramper.....or more likely just a slightly weary very long term shareholder!
Only 2 race weekends down, but we have heard zero about any issues as far as I am aware, so hard to see how the contract would not be extended for additional seasons, imo
More likely an expansion of the partnership, if anything to provide a legacy. Hasn't there been talk of leaving chargers in the different locations for this reason?
Who or what is there as an alternative anyway?
Haven't been following too much, so the cancel of Brazil and Arentina will be a blow, more for the series than for AFC, but hopefully they will come up with some alternatives.
Maybe they can the showcase wilderness conditions and remoteness of the Orkneys/Shetlands, or highlight the plight of the impoverished landowners on Sandbanks :-)
apologies athansius...sounds like you agree with my earlier post, in a roundabout way. ;-0
Then you should look closer at my history jhonboy.
I have well over one million shares, have never sold one, but am realistic about the current situation.
I recall that your posting history is not exactly whiter-than-white.
And as for comments from Desertwolf, the boards moaner-in-chief. I think I can ignore those.....
double ended post ...start with a negative end with a positive...classic deramper...never seen you post anything positive about afc, only to snipe at others.
It will affect sentiment for AFC hugely if they are dropped by ExE next season. It will also raise big questions about the tech.
Personally I expect AFC to be retained and the tech to be thus validated.
Looks like there will be two new venues for EXE this year as they have cancelled Brazil and Argentina for the Season 1 events due to Covid. Wonder where they will go
Thanks Klunk.
I hope an announcement is made soon about a continuation of the supply. That will be a great confidence boost and proof of a happy customer!
The original contract with Extreme E was for 1 year....RNS dated July 15th .... " Contract reflects an initial one year agreement with a down-payment payable upon order, and subsequent payments recognised when equipment is made available reflecting the unique nature of this showcase series" .... have AFC announced an extention to that contract for the 2022 season ?
@ jhonboy, good find - it's good to see that they are starting to mention AFC by name, rather than just saying charged by 'a fuel cell'.

Great news, great publicity for Ex E across all the F1 websites and news pages. I'm sure a lot of people will be looking through the Ex E Website to find out all about it, with potentially many that can see uses in their business for AFC EV charging or off-grid power.
Wow. That's quite a coup for the series.
Extreme E over Formula E and WEC (although they might be announced at a later date).
Do we know how long AFC are committed to EXE?
