Thank you Pocko all very interesting we’ve just got to live a few more years, good luck
Continued... Surveys by SGU show that Sweden's bedrock has plenty of these substances. But at the same time, the Bergsstaten authority states that interest from companies is declining. Bergsstaten states that "lack of social acceptance for exploration and mining activities that lead to lengthy legal proceedings is an important factor".
The positive consequences of an industrial establishment are simply not as obvious anymore. Or as a heavyweight CEO in the industry recently put it, "It feels like we've lost a battle here."
The former Social Democratic Minister of Trade and Industry Anders Sundström has a possible explanation. He believes that a nomenclature of officials has emerged that has made conservation a matter of the heart. There are fewer authorities that defend the socio-economic and growth-oriented perspectives.
Martin Berg: Mining policy threat to a green future
Mining companies are long-term players, but Swedish mining policy is starting to make them give up.
SWEDEN 1 JUNE 2021 05:00
This is an editorial. The article expresses the newspaper's opinion - forming line. Norrbottens-Kuriren's political etiquette is moderate.
A noticeably tired Mikael Staffas, CEO of the mining company Boliden, stated in an interview with DI (28/8): "We are building up a portfolio of potential investments. This also includes Swedish projects, but unfortunately those investments are the most difficult to obtain a permit. "While we are waiting, we are looking more deeply at other countries".
The day before Christmas Eve, the government put a stop to the company's plans to open a copper mine in Laver in Norrbotten. Then Boliden had waited for four years for a message.
Or ask Kurt Budge, CEO of the British mining company Beowulf. He has been waiting for over ten years for information on what will happen to an iron ore mine in Kallak. In the meantime, the company has invested approximately SEK 80 million in trying to satisfy all conflicting interests.
It went so far that the Constitutional Committee criticized the government for not spending a minute or three years processing Beowulf's application. It is perhaps therefore not so strange that it has not opened a single new mine in Sweden in 13 years and that we are collapsing in international mine rankings for countries worth investing in.
With these long time spans, the conditions also have time to change. A decision is appealed and a new ruling puts an end to everything. Or it may be a new national interest that must be taken into account or weighed against another. All of a sudden no one knows what applies anymore.
And when the legal positions are locked, the various cases end up in the lap of the government. Had it been up to the Social Democrats, the matter would have been clear, but according to information, they do not dare to touch the Sami reindeer husbandry and the power relationship to the Green Party. It is too sensitive and therefore it was no for Boliden.
Of course, mines must undergo proper environmental assessments, but as things stand, Swedish mining policy has developed into a ravine of unpredictability that prevents Sweden from taking advantage of its green resources.
At the same time, the International Energy Agency (IEA) has recently stated that world demand for so-called innovation-critical metals and minerals will explode in the next two decades. These are substances that are absolutely crucial for the ongoing green transition and a must in the engines and batteries of electric cars, or in wind turbines and new power lines.
The IEA also points to a future "frightening" large gap between supply and demand, and notes that the world is largely dependent on China for supply and processing.
Surveys by SGU show that Sweden's bedrock has plenty of these sub
Thuggish comments get things going..
Can't we just slip him a Mickey Finnn?
BTW for the woke ones among us, that was a joke in case you are going to get me expelled for violent comments.
I guess like everything thing else, we have to take the silver lining and assume it meant that something is happening as opposed to nothing. But yes I am sure Mr Baylan is taking practice swings ready to knock the ball back out to someone else rather than doing his job and taking a decision.
Morning Wotitsworth...... 'Soon' means something like 'forthcoming', which we can hope means something that really, really will happen eventually; it is something that will evolve in due course into what we perceive to be Now, but whether or not the situation will be transfigured by it is uncertain. Will we then be able to seize the hour and make hay while the sun shines, who knows?
Some time ago, the lady from UNESCO said "We can expect a response soon"
From an organisation that takes 7 months to answer such a simple question , I guess we should have known that "Soon"didnt actually mean soon.................
Pmsl.
Afternoon.. “19 Million Tonnes”?.....Lets see now - 19 Million@ say $50 P/T Net? = $950 Million…… 828 Million shares in issue = $1.147p/s…. And today’s S/P is 0.415P, having got the backing from the MI years ago! 0.415 is the reflection of the Government’s meddling, and that means you Mr Baylan – Minister for innovation and enterprise, in a pro – mining Nation, is a little fib!!!!.... “Green transition”? Investors in the Kallak project are climate – justice warriors. What more do you want I wonder? Now swallow you medicine man - “Concession first”!!! lol..atb……
Things are getting better every day...and they've just got 19 million tons better. Have a happy day everyone, the Sun's going to shine on us later on, I think. :-)
Give them to Baylan, maybe that'll give him some incentive to do his job
Mal. I'll take one for the team if LB doesn't want them
Weird isn't it Prof. Maybe they are all buys, including that recent whopper at 3.2p. Not sure why anyone would sell that many, even if it's a former buyer at the 3.16p discount fundraise price. Not much of a notch up if it's a sell. We've had a resource upgrade and people are selling large amounts after that news seems a bit unusual.
I'm clueless again matey.
Hi Aug. Yes, I feel that's spot on. UNESCO can make comments but not recommendations on our case, considering this is to do with a mining project that is located well outside of their WH site of interest and surely nothing really to do with them. Any recommendation would quickly be classed as unreasonable interference, as a bare minimum, by Kurt.
Only my view.
I bought a cheeky 100000 earlier but didn’t do much good ,I was hoping to put it into lbjj s name so he could be a a proper shareholder like the rest of us on here, lol ,
Delayed trades rather
What’s with all the chunky afternoon trades?
Evening. Stefan Lofven will want to lead a party that is pro – mining/ pro – Green mining into the next election (miming concerns the Swedish voter).. Today, they are seen as neither, a positive decision on Kallak would provide both.. We do not want any recommendations from UNESCO, because it’s not a matter for them.. Imo only atb..
Kallak, I agree that he has no intention of getting them in yet, because we still have a strong chance of a decision coming after the UNESCSO comments, and he hasn't done so prior, because it would have made our position in Sweden very difficult. Now though, we have a Boliden precedent, climate change emergency and focus globally on that, and if forced into it, as in, if Baylan instigates some further nonsensical delay, Kurt, in my view, will take action in order to protect our interests. If it is clear that Kallak will never be allowed to be mined with us involved, albeit one could argue that is already the case. So, I was saying he doesn't intend to, but he will take action if the avenue to mine Kallak is continually being obstructed, without an end in sight.
After UNESCO, what else can possibly prevent a decision, based on all known and emerging factors in favour of a mine?
Hi Sooz. Yes, and I think we've established that communication isn't always two-way. As long as we keep our communication going we are doing the right thing. x
Potential mining life...wow, that's going to have the anti mining activists really worried, we'll have them on here in droves.
'Push comes to shove, it will all be in our favour if Kurt has to get the lawyers in........'
Read this Eric...... Budge has NO INTENTION OF GETTING ANY LAWYERS IN.
If Budge had intention, he would have done so by now!
He is very happy indeed with his £100k+ PA salary, thank you very much!
Yes, Eric...that's the whole points of a communication, it's on record and that makes it meaningful in my book.
Hi Lb. What those letters and communications are though, is at least a factual record of what we've done, the part we've played in this farce of a process. Push comes to shove, it will all be in our favour if Kurt has to get the lawyers in. As will the KU report.
No, I certainly don't feel Kurt has gone backwards, more that Sweden has. But there is pressure on for Sweden not to become an investment black hole. Everything points to a Kallak approval. In my opinion. Once UNESCSO submits its comments, there are no places for Baylan left to hide. Unless he's willing to force us to take legal action. What a national embarrassment that would be. Surely the Boliden situation has opened a few eyes. Even his.
Enough isn't enough for me. I've been in this for nearly eleven years, Kurt has just updated our resource estimate and in the RNS today mentions the resource potentially supporting a 40 year mining life.
Have a good Bank Hol weekend.
Cheers Lb.
