we have nothing to fear from a "no". The problem is the Gov't's deliberate refusal to make a decision - if they made it we could be in court in 3 months and get any decision overturned - they know it (look at some of the previous judgements - v anti sami and pro mining from the courts).
Sorry folks, this is exactly what Baylan wanted. It wasn’t a stall...it was an excuse to say no. Sorry, but Kallak is not going to be a working mine in our lifetime and the SP will rapidly reflect this. The only up will be if and when BEM are able to prove and secure permits on other assets. For all the shouting about Kurt, he has no more option, take the government to court, they’ll flash this letter up on day one. So sorry to everyone who’s been in this a long time but we backed the wrong horse....
I’m gutted and the fact that there’s been no response says that Kurt has run out of options...if he’d seen this coming he’d have had a draft RNS ready to go...
The reality is that we have been waiting for a new government - not long now - this shower of sh*t will be kicked out - they barely have a majority and they have been a disaster for Sweden.
The problem appears to be that the govt are just so unprofessional. If they want the mine, they say, it will happen and get everyone together to broker the agreement. If they don't want it, then why the hell do they give licenses, and consequently the lawsuit. This is like Chinese whispers.
Why allow us to explore if we are to be denied a exploration license?
If we are denied then nobody should be able to extract the ore!
I have a nasty feeling they want us out if the way!
Just my demented ramblings having been here forever!
Payjj. I agree. There were definitely objections and facts in the report which favoured the Sami that I don't recall seeing before.
But to use the same analogy, the villagers get compensated, so if it's a yes the Sami get something. If it's a no, we should be compensated
WIW. That's exactly it. There will always be a negative impact on someone from a new project, eg you build a new reservoir and someone loses their village, but the need for the reservoir overrides the need for the little old village.
Takayama...Too late? Lol.
It feels like we are at the edge of a precipice, balancing on the toes of the foot, with a large heavy rucksack. It's got particularly windy, the gusts are picking up. Don't look down! Should we ditch the rucksack? But it's got all our supplies and we're likely to die without it! Is this going to be a buy at 2p? At 1P? Or is Kurt going to pull out a clanger of a strategy beyond sitting on hands and waiting for the process to unfold? Is it the life saving helicopter we've all been waiting for? Oh dear. Perhaps we should have thought about building something to make the walk near the edge of the precipice a little more secure. But it's too late now. And a helicopter may only make it worse.
Ibjj..It is so transparently that. :-)
The UNESCO report suggests to me that the 6 months it has taken to put this together have been spent assessing the fragmented nature of Swedish politics and the fact that the Green Party, with 4% of the vote, can manipulate the whole political machine into doing absolutely nothing about Kallak.
UNESCO have taken the opportunity to flex it’s bureaucratic muscle and align 100% with the Swedish greens and the Sami, which suits UNESCO’s global agenda supremely well.
That their report will undoubtedly further stymie any possibility of a mine, despite it being 25 miles beyond the Laponia boundary represents a significant PR coup.
Technical Tops generally means facts, which means true things and things that are real.
rns - letter dated 2 June but only rec'd today - Kurt not impressed!!
It's going to be an interesting week.
rubbish stop deluding yourself and others its very technical IMO!
Reading that report...that 'technical' report...the technical competence doesn't exactly jump out at you does it...it's all if's and but's...and minimal becomes large by an unknown process.
Because they wanted the bridge. It seems Baylan doesn't want the mine. At least not with BEM
How powerful are they though.. Dresden had their bridge and told UNESCO where to go.
For the past 8 years, the absence of a decision has been the political choice of Swedish ministers, entirely on their shoulders.
Now they have a reason legitimised by UNESCO to continue to do nothing. And they now have a very powerful global bureaucracy to support that stance. The KU report is null and void.
It needs to be a yes/no now. If it's a yes then all the ifs and buts and loose ends will come with the environmental permit. If a no, then we can go to court and argue there.
But I bet the gov ask for more submissions, they shouldn't but such is the sham of the process it seems likely.
Yes indeed suzy2, I've read the report twice and on the second time I had the feeling that the Sami actually had input :) . Budge will pick holes straight through this report, this week is going to be interesting to say the least
Me too PAYJJ...I'm seeing this through to a mine...the report's an empty, biased opinion.
Well, I'll continue to waste my time here then I guess because I'm staying put. You've made your position quite clear soooo off you pop. Thanks for your input but if you're done there's no need to stick around, have a good life and good luck with your other endeavours
Suzy2. The Bergesstaten and it’s opinions have never carried any weight.
As long as politics are at play, the law will be kept at a safe distance by Baylan.
Budge should have had a plan for all possible UNESCO responses. And I mean an action plan with considerable heft, not another wish washy letter / email.
Unless an RNS arrives this week demonstrating a huge progression in Budge’s demands for a decision and a clear statement that the law will be brought to bear on this sh*tshow, then he may as well pack his bags.
