"I think Biden has enough on his plate back home"
==================================================
I reckon he could fit us in between naps!!
He has just got his infrastructure bill through.....but lost the governorship of Virginia. Win some, lose some.
Bald-Eagle
I think Biden has enough on his plate back home, he is turning the USA into a joke, he could actually make Boris look normal.
But BoE have a target of 2% inflation, if it is above that the Governor has to write a letter!!...I expect he has already printed off enough copies for next 2 years.
Government has large debt so they will want inflation as it’s the only way they can bring the debt down . The one thing this government must hate is having to use Keynesian economics .
"In short, cost-push inflation is driven by supply costs while demand-pull inflation is driven by consumer demand—while both lead to higher prices passed onto consumers." [https://www.investopedia.com/terms/c/costpushinflation.asp]
===============================================================
I don't really understand how cost-push inflation works in an economy. Costs increase for a company - wages and/or raw materials - but productivity remains the same, so management have to increase the cost of their product to maintain profits (simple enough!)....but consumer demand could (in theory) decrease for that product - either consumers stop buying the product, buy less or buy a cheaper alternative - so demand decreases. The company might see increased costs and falling demand for what they make....not good!!
Increased wages have to coincide with increased productivity....but there is one person in this country who doesn't seem to understand this small detail....unfortunately he is in charge.
Raw material (& fuel) cost inflation might be temporary (due to pamdemic)....wage inflation might become more deep seated because of Brexit & political ideology.
Have I misunderstood something?
PS I wasn't going to mention the B-word but it just popped up!!
Indications that UK government is preparing to withdraw from 'parts' of the NI Brexit deal....that could really spook the London stock exchange. Hard to see the EU reacting positively. Biden would also be annoyed.
"You need to tackle the causes of cost push inflation if you believe it’s not transitory."
=======================================
I didn't do economics at school...how does one tackle 'cost push' inflation?
I presume having a PM who is actively encouraging wage inflation to tackle staff shortages wouldn't be part of the solution?
Brexit was always going to be inflationary.
Then add a pandemic and…….
Again basic economics.
Perhaps the voters should study basic economics before voting in a referendum?
Raising interest rates when suffering from cost push inflation would be counter productive- Just making things even worse.

Basic economics.
I reckon 'almost' everyone was surprised base rate remained unchanged, it seems to be a recurring theme of this administration.....delay as long as possible until it is 'almost' too late, then have to intervene with more drastic measures.
An increase back to 0.25% would have had very little real impact but it would have sent the message that the BOE was willing to act if required. The governor's attempt to explain the dither was rather pathetic...I kept wishing Mark Carney was still in charge.
Yes please, as I’m heavily committed on both, but I will settle for Barclays over 200p for now. :)
I can't see rates going up next month, politically it's not the best look. Making your voters poorer on the run up to Christmas...
Hopefully with the tide turning in interest rates, this should bode well for dividend payouts, margins increase and little more bottom line profit for the banks to distribute out. I just hope the new CEO can drive Barclays successfully.

Has anything been said about increasing the dividend thanks in advance gla regards jack
I think the reason it is disliked so much, is because the returns for Shareholders and Investors are so poor.
The Directors have always been about rewarding themselves and not the shareholders, rarely paying a divi above 3% and as a result, the SP really doesn't ever result in substantial increases.
It needs a cultural change, which isn't going to happen, as long as they have their snouts in the money trough.
"unless it starts to move up soon it's got to be a takeover target in my view..."
==================================================================
'Hated' seems a bit strong!
So 'unless' the SP starts to go up, BARC will start to be seen as a 'takeover target'....in your view....which would presumably mean the SP increasing....because it is a 'takeover target'. So squaring that circle...the SP is going to rise no matter what...in your view?!
More negative news over the weekend regarding Barclays/Staley/Epstien as usual the press hate Barclays, seems to be the most hated stock out there, look at the P/E(around 5)compared to it's peer group and it's other valuation matrix , unless it starts to move up soon it's got to be a takeover target in my view...
Lets hope this does go over £2 next week and lloyds is over 50p
As per bald eagle, you should know the answer to that. If not please take time out to clue yourself up on the markets or you may lose a good bit of cash, as a lot of investors will over the coming months. It’s not a dig at you , just sensible advice. Hope you make some money. :-).
