"Ppet, perhaps it depends what one’s entry point is?" Hit the nail on the head! If you bought back in the low 30's, weathered the fallout from the failed £55 Pfizer bid (nice one Pascal), and have reinvested all of your dividends who cares if it fluctuates between £100 and £115 per share? As for "I thought AZN was supposed to have become a household name" It has in my household LOL
Buy on the rumour etc. - they'll need to be strong to support this valuation and debt.
Thanks SpikeyJ - appreciated. Shorting FTSE and DAX, have given some back but have still been winning ta..
noveckingood, AZN specifically holding up reasonably in the
circs, but well done if you took out that FTSE 100 short - kudos!
Ppet, perhaps it depends what one’s entry point is?
… if you look back at the 5 year historical s/p chart for AZN,
it’s not so easy to argue that this is a “stock hated so much
by the markets”. it’s actually being doing pretty well overall.
Why is this stock hated so much by the markets. I thought AZN was supposed to have become a household name.
Even GSK was green at one point today and they haven’t even got the AZN drug pipeline, nowhere near!
Does anyone know what is going on?
3rd bank https://healthimpactnews.com . AZN held quite well yesterday on a day many shares prices dropped more .
Holding quite well only slightly in red .Most of my shares in red .bsfa rising again today . azn share I still like .
Like many shares across the market red day as with many shares bsfa looked to have appealed to the market again today .Lets hope azn can see more good days from market soon again .
Still blue .Shares can move so fast as being seen at bsfa with that news just released .
Still blue on a day many shares across market in red .
AstraZeneca kicked off this year’s J.P.Morgan Healthcare Conference in style, announcing a $1.8 billion deal that gave it ownership of CinCor Pharma and its mid-phase hypertension drug baxdrostat. But while Fierce Biotech reported at the time that AstraZeneca was able to exploit CinCor’s deflated share price, that was only part of the story.
Good time to buy,IMHO.
Nothing specific, but the very large caps FTSE100 companies, Oilers and Miners too will drag the index back below 7000. So IMHO there won't be any of the over valued companies that will escape the sell off later this Qtr or Q2..
As I say time will tell, well done on holding if you have for the whole ride up but I'd be dumping most at this point FWIW..
morning, thanks for reply.
ok, so i get that part of it is your pessimism / caution about overall
markets and what you see as likelihood of a recession (? meaning
a global one, rather than UK, presumably?) but is there anything
more specific about AZN itself that makes you think it is likely to
do significantly worse than markets overall / peers within its sector?
[… btw you’re more of an optimist than i am about this being
a “post covid” world, but i do hope you are right about that!]
Operating profits have trebled and there has never been a better few years to hold AZN - ever.
It's still at a p/e in a post covid world of 40+ - we're heading into a recession and the overall market has got ahead of itself.
As I said, time will tell but a significantly higher chance of £9 than £14 from here - IMO
Re noveckingood
Not only revenue was up?
"Operating profits more than trebled to $3.8bn, reflecting a positive mix impact as lower margin COVID vaccine sales were replaced by high value treatments for cancer and rare disease.
Free cash flow of $8.7bn was up 79% and net debt fell from $24.3bn to $22.9bn."
(apologies for typo, meant, from 10,752, as per your post at 07:45 this morning.)
hi noveckingood.
i’m happily long on AZN, and i thought those results were pretty good.
but i think it’s often helpful to try to understand and take into account
possible counter-arguments /contrarian views in this uncertain world.
therefore, i’d be interested to know about the reasons you see AZN
as an “easy short” from 10, 572. could you explain a bit please? - tia.
AZN goes from strength to strength. In my view this is a stonking buy. Over the next 6-18 months, as many of the promising phase 3 trials move into approval, the market is going to realise this is a durable growth story. Currently AZN sits at a discount to similar growth stories in America. Big re-rate coming.
Very strong numbers, all bodes well for the future. This is the star holding in my portfolio along with the oilers and BAE. Long may it continue. If only GSK was as well run and commercially successful as AZN LOL
I haven't started yet but thanks, remember to pop back from time to time and gloat some more..
Good luck with that........
