Synergy

Definition of 'Synergy'

a) a combined entity which has a value greater than the sum of its parts, or
b) arrangements which are mutually beneficial for all those involved.

For example, if a company has a large stock of good designs ready for development but few production lines, and another company has large reserves and under-used factories then a merger can benefit both parties.
