Definition of 'Security Market Line'
A linear (straight) line showing the relationship between systematic risk and expected rates of return for individual assets (securities). According to the capital asset pricing model the return above the risk-free rate of return or a risky asset is equal to the risk premium for the market portfolio multiplied by the beta coefficient.
